lenovo x1 carbon or matebook x Posted: 11 Apr 2019 12:42 PM PDT Right now there is a sale on the lenovo x1 carbon for 1300. This is the model with i7 and 16 gb of ram vs the i7 matebook x with ddr3 ram. I am going to start uni soon and I need a laptop for school that will last me for at least 4 years. I am going to be majoring in accounting and need to decide between the two. [link] [comments] |
Highschool student looking for a thin laptop with decent specs Posted: 11 Apr 2019 07:38 PM PDT My budget is around $1000. I'm looking for a thin and light weight laptop. Decent battery life. Something with decent specs. Wouldnt do any demanding games on it. Would use it for media consumption, coding and some games (nothing demanding). I would like to be able to use this computer for around 4-5 years. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:20 AM PDT I live in Norway where things are expensive. I usually look myself, but not sure. I use komplett.no and you have to convert into usd. Not sure. This is for traveling and working while traveling and some gaming. If you need examples of games that should run it. We can go with Sekiro as an example. [link] [comments] |

Is there really not a perfect 11.5-13.5" Windows tablet choice?! Posted: 11 Apr 2019 06:32 PM PDT Hello guys. For the past week i've been researching to find the perfect windows tablet choice for my specific application need. However it seems there isn't even one device that doesn't have some type of throwback. I'm not asking for everything, but it seems it is either hit or miss, even if you take into account overpriced products. Please hear me out and let me know your thoughts. I am essentially looking for a WINDOWS TABLET which its primary purpose is to be fitted to my car as a secondary "dash" per say so i can use it to interact with my aftermarket motorsports ecu. It will function as a monitoring dash for the most of the time, but can be used to datalog (aka record data) or for direct tuning (so i don't have to bring my laptop everytime i need to make changes to my engine calibration). I wouldn't mind using it at home as well since i will have it, but mostly will work as a travel/trip companion since i have a PC at home. It has to be a WINDOWS tablet as the software that interfaces with the ecu is only windows based. After thinking and revising my requirements several times after getting disappointed by what is available here is the break down:
I literally checked every windows tablet and 2-in-1 i believe. Here some potential picks and what i didn't like.
I think i've covered 99% of the options but i may could have missed 1 or 2. To be honest i won't need this tablet for another 3-6months i would guess but at least i've done my research so i will be prepared when the time comes to buy one. What do you think? I know i went a little crazy but i'm that type of person that never regrets his purchasing choices because i don't buy blindly. [link] [comments] |
Opinion on the Asus Vivobook 2 in 1 for general use and college stuff? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:11 AM PDT The one I'm looking at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KWRD7DD/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AWVDPEZSR45X1&psc=1 Just a laptop for no real gaming and just general use like watching videos and writing essays or browsing. I know intel Pentium is pretty bad but not sure how bad?

Gigabyte Aero 15x v8-BK4 Review Posted: 11 Apr 2019 12:09 PM PDT Hey those looking to buy a gaming laptop, here is my experience with the Gigabyte Aero 15x. Pros: Lightweight, relatively long battery life, strong graphics card, decent colors on the display Cons: Lots of bloatware pre-installed, I would recommend a fresh wipe once you get it and reinstall the drivers from their website. Beyond that the price is high compared to desktops but reasonable compared to similar laptops. Overall, its pretty solid. You may want to wait for Black Friday if money is a concern (it drops considerably.) For me, a college student with no room for a desktop PC, this laptop is perfect. Its small and light enough to bring to class and has the battery life to support long study sessions. Compared to MSI, its a dream. My laptop hasnt experienced any significant problems since I got it 6 months ago. Wanted to put this here in case someone wanted to know. Questions are welcomed. Note: Went down to $1500 or $1600 on Black Friday/Cyber Monday [link] [comments] |

Which Thinkpad for under $850? Posted: 11 Apr 2019 05:53 AM PDT I'm stuck between two ThinkPads that are from previous generations. The X1 Carbon 5th gen and the T480. Both models can be purchased for less than $850 right now. Both share these features: 1080p 8 GB RAM 512 GB SSD The T480 has the i5-8250 processor, upgradeable RAM and power bridge battery The X1C5 has the i5-6300u and is much more portable. I am buying a laptop for use in business school. Will the older processor be noticeable in day-to-day life? Will 8 GB of ram be sufficient for the next few years? I'm leaning towards the X1 because it seems like it is more suited to portability. But, if the older processor and 8 GB of nonupgradeable RAM will have a severe negative impact, I will opt for the T480 [link] [comments] |

Business Professional seeking work laptop for the next 3-5 years Posted: 11 Apr 2019 10:23 PM PDT Hello fellow redditors! I am an Executive Director for a restaurant chain and I am looking to upgrade my 5 year old laptop to something new and shiny. I currently use an HP Envy mk7 and it has served me well over the years. My main usage from the new laptop would be for work related purposes, which includes large websites like HotSchedules, large data spreadsheets, Google Drive, and some minor photo/video editing. I also want to use this laptop while I travel so video streaming would be important. Mainly looking for something that is fast, efficient, and holds good battery. • Price Range - Under $850.00 • Needs Touch Screen • SSD with high storage is desireable Let me know your thoughts! Looking for some help choosing a basic and cheap notebook. (Chile - $250-300) Posted: 11 Apr 2019 10:01 PM PDT I'm from Chile, but I'm looking for a computer on te US on amazon for about $250-300. I prefer a notebook that has a long battery life and if it's possible, to have a 2 in 1 form factor. It's very important to me that the notebook has to ve very lightweight, because I want to use it for the university and for carrying everywhere and I don't have much space to transport my 15.6 inch, 3.5 kilogram laptop. I'm looking for a Linux OS or a windows that is capable for running Linux on VirtualBox. I preer the 10.1 screen size. Recently I want to use it for programming basic things on C and C++, and if it's possible some light games for example, the binding of isaac, and if it's possible CS:GO at 30 fps or lower . I'm only looking for a comfortable keyboard for fast typing. Recently I saw an Acer switch V10 (intel atom x5-Z8350 version) and a Lenovo Flip 11 (both windows 10) and I was undecided because I don't know what notebook it's better or more suitable for my prefferences. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Personal/Gaming Combo Laptop for a Casual Gamer Posted: 11 Apr 2019 09:53 PM PDT Hi all, just stumbled upon this sub during a google search and am thrilled it exists, thanks in advance for the advice. I really love the reddit communities like this that exist primarily to help bridge knowledge gaps and help folks out with their big decision/new hobby/what have you. Thanks for contributing to it. tldr; I am hoping to spend $1500 or less, with a hard limit of $2000, on a laptop for personal use, with a bit of business and a bit of gaming. Those prices would have to include any/all upgrades (which I'd very much rather pay and have installed before it ships). I'd like it to (in this order):
What do you reddit angels suggest? It'll be my personal laptop for general life stuff, I'm sure some business will need to be done on it (I work in data technology, there'll be some heavy data sets but nothing too demanding), but I'd like to be able to play games on it as well. In general, I tend to go weeks or months without playing video games, then shamelessly binge on them for 2-10 days. I'm more concerned with a machine that can be expected to scratch that itch for me with any game that comes out in the next couple years than I am with getting a machine that'll melt my face off with a million frames per second on maximum settings. Also I didn't even mention this in the tldr because I'm confident it's a non-issue for any decent laptop, but I do love music. I'll always be listening through headphones, but if one laptop is known to produce crisper sounds than another, I'd toss that in the nice-to-know category. that Beyond that, the better it travels the better it is for me. I've currently narrowed it down to the following, although I wouldn't be posting here if I wasn't open to someone suggesting an option I haven't considered. (Also, fair warning, for someone that works in tech I am a total fucking ignoramus on hardware -- see my above remark about not even knowing whether 'sound quality' was really at thing for laptops -- so if there is some particular hardware differentiation I should really care about, I'd genuinely appreciate being told why I should care about) MSI GE73 Raider RGB-676 -- Honestly not sure what options I'd get here, especially as tinkering with them seems to affect the price quite a bit and, sometimes, in counter-intuitive ways (at least here on NewEgg, and at least from my underinformed perspective). MSI GP Series GP63 Leopard-428 -- I'd get this with the 1070 GPU and 8GB of Video Ram, which currently looks to be on sale for $1400 from $1700. Only real concern is the rash of bad reviews/complaints on NewEgg. Some of them seem silly, but a few sound very frustrating, and a couple have called out battery life specifically. Razer RZ09-02705E76-R3U1 -- this (likely with the 1TB hdd and 128GB SSD) is the one I almost pulled the trigger on, but I've heard it can run pretty hot. I'll spend a decent amount of time streaming videos while travelling for work, and working while...working for work. It's hard for me to contextualize what "running hot" means for a laptop; if it just wouldn't be nice and chill to the touch that's fine, but if it'll be genuinely uncomfortable to keep in my lap or type on for extended stretches that'll be a significant buzzkill. Again, I'm totally open to options other than these, but I am looking to buy quickly. Thanks again, everybody. I really appreciate the input. [link] [comments] |
TechFault - A wiki to record common issues with laptops, how to potentially fix them, etc. Posted: 11 Apr 2019 05:58 PM PDT TechFault is a wiki I'm hosting. The goal is to just have as much information about as many devices and their potentially problematic traits hosted on the wiki, and really to just centralize a ton of fragmented knowledge about issues with devices into one central wiki. If you've had bad or a lot of experience with certain hardware or laptops, you should check it out! [link] [comments] |
Laptop with a removable battery Posted: 11 Apr 2019 08:27 PM PDT I'm a student looking for a laptop with a removable battery. I just need it for web browsing and microsoft office. Posted: 11 Apr 2019 07:30 PM PDT I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good gaming labtop for under 1500. My current labtop is a 6 year old Asus republic of gaming labtop that has served me well but need an upgrade. I mainly play league, ffxi, starcraft 2 on my labtop now . [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Apr 2019 06:37 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: - Up to $2000, Indonesia Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. - best spec for money How important is weight and thinness to you? - not important. Mostly need a mobile desktop Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. - Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. -N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? - I'll need lots of gaming, mainly Monster Hunter World for now, I need 60 FPS on high or better setting. Also plan on doing some VR stuffs. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? - preferably good build quality, must have Thunderbolt for future eGPU upgrade, must have 120 or 144hz screen to benefit from future upgrades. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. So I've finally saved up enough to upgrade my 960m.. I've been eyeing the Lenovo Legion Y740 with RTX 2060 which I can get at around $1978 here. I just need some confirmation if this is still the best bang for my buck as of recently.. Tried looking at some Predators, but they are inexplicably more expensive here. Looked at some Alienware, but only the much more expensive models have screens other than 60hz. MSI stuffs also don't go below $2000 with such specs. Please help me make up my mind before I regret this purchase.. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Apr 2019 06:28 PM PDT Saw this laptop in my local store and was wondering what other people thought of it? Right now, with a 5 year protection plan it'll be $562. The specs are a 15.6" screen, GTX1050Ti, Intel Core i5 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD + 16GB Optane. For the price I feel like it's pretty good especially compared to my old one which is a HP Compaq Presario CQ-62. [link] [comments] |

Which Lenovo should i get with identical specs (under 600$) Posted: 11 Apr 2019 02:31 PM PDT ThinkPad E580 (560$) VS Ideapad 330 (535$) VS Ideapad 110 (460$). Specs: CPU core-i5 - 8th U Ram 8 DDR4 storage 1TB. P.s: The only difference being that the Ideapad 330 has a Nividia Mx150. I am an Eng. student, I am a heavy tech user, I do watch lots of movies and use the web allot, the heaviest task i would do would be light Photoshop or AutoCAD 2D, and the only difference between the above seems to be the group they advertise to, which would you recommend to me?
