So is Skype a default app on windows now? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:24 PM PST I have never downloaded Skype on my PC and yet it seems to be installed now. I have tried uninstalling it but it doesn't even show up on my list of programs. Is Skype now built into windows? Also how the hell do i delete it? Side note it's also on my cousins PC despite never installing it. [link] [comments]

nLite keeps crashing after I select location for ISO Posted: 02 Mar 2019 05:06 PM PST I wanted to make a Windows Longhorn (build 3718) .iso with some features, so I edit the i386 folder with Resource Hacker, open up nLite and try to make an .iso file. Problem is, after I press "Make ISO" and select the location to save the .iso, it just crashes! How do I fix this? [link] [comments]
Define Which Apps Use Which Network Adapters? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:50 PM PST I wasn't sure whether to post this in PCMasterRace or Windows, but if you need me to put this post elsewhere, I can certainly do that. Anyways, here's the post: So, I have a pretty unique setup that requires me to have a wired connection to my PC from my Xbox, but NOT wired to my router (yes, that is a REQUIREMENT to NOT have it). I have pretty much everything figured out, but I still have one that's not working out so well: I need to be able to stream to my PC from my Xbox, but my PC's WiFi card is much better than going through Ethernet to my connected Ethernet-to-WiFi adapter for everything else. I have tried setting the priority of my Ethernet and WiFi adapters on my PC so that it uses mainly WiFi (for YouTube and that kind of stuff), but now it won't use the Ethernet for ANYTHING. To sum it up, how do I make it so that the Xbox app on my PC uses Ethernet, but the rest of my programs uses my attached WiFi instead? [link] [comments]
Show Specific User (AD) on Sign-in Screen? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:28 PM PST Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to always show a certain AD user on the login screen but still be able to sign in with other domain credentials? I have some computers that I set to auto log into computers with that AD account that we use for guests. Occasionally staff will use those computers, sign out, and log in as themselves. When they leave they sign back out and then if a guests shows up it's stuck at the login screen until a computer reboot so it can auto sign-in again. Does anyone know of a solution to help resolve this? Thank you! [link] [comments]
How big of an issue is running Windows 7 once it is no longer updated? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:11 PM PST An opportunity to buy a brand new device, that has everything I need, for a very reasonable price, has presented itself to me. The only catch is that it comes with 7 installed. While not an issue for me in terms of usage, (really liked Windows 7 when it came out), I'm concerned because updates for Windows 7 will stop being issued 01/2020. How much of an issue will this be when that happens? Will there be any sort of "fix" that I can use so I can keep W7? Buying Windows 10 in a year isn't something I would prefer to do. What are my alternatives? thanks in advance for any replies 👍 [link] [comments]

Boot from SSD but have Windows environment run from HDD? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:04 PM PST Hopefully this makes sense. I installed Windows 7 on a new SSD (120GB) to be solely a boot drive. I have a 1TB HDD with all my settings, files, etc on it. Is it possible to edit the BCD to have Windows use the boot files from the SSD to start Windows, but have it load the user environment that I have set up on the HDD? Start Menu entries, background, library paths, etc? Or would I be better off getting a larger SSD and cloning my HDD to it? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 activation with new hardware Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:31 PM PST Hello! Years ago I bought a prebuild Gamer PC with Win7. Now my CPU is pretty outdated (I5 3570K) and needs to be changed (Ryzen 5 2600X). Because of this i also need a new MB and new DDR4 Ram. I am questioning myself if I need a new Windows key or not? I'm going to reinstall windows to avoid any complications with the new hardware. I got the free Win10 Version back in 2015 (?!) and don't have any key from Win7. I read, that I can connect my key to a Microsoft account, which i think did automatically when i created that account back when i first installed Win10. Is it possible to just log in with my account to get Win10 back on my new PC? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Any Windows 10 Hourly and Everyday Reminder? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:36 AM PST I'm looking for a reminder app that:
These functions are basic, but I could not find an app that features all of them togheter. The only one I found which has all the features (RemindMe) doesn't work. I set the reminder and it exceeds the data/hour and no alarms pop up. [link] [comments]

Windows automatically upgraded from Home to Pro on new laptop. Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:07 PM PST Hey guys, I recently bought an excellent condition open box laptop from Best Buy, service was excellent (disclaimer: I work there), and I'm having an issue with the new laptop that I couldn't figure out last night. I have a Desktop PC I built around a year ago, of which I foolishly installed Windows 10 Pro (instead of Home) on; I didn't use a key at the time of installation, and have been meaning to, but never got around to it. This new laptop (obviously) comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Home, already activated by the manufacturer. However, when I booted this laptop for the first time, entered my Microsoft account, and entered privacy settings, I was surprised to see that Windows 10 Pro was installed on, but not activated, on the laptop; it did show a product key, for what I assume was Windows 10 Home. I already did a reset through settings, which did not fix the issue. I'm guessing that my Microsoft account, due to being linked to a PC with Pro on it, automatically upgraded my laptop during setup to Pro, though I've never heard of that happening and I feel like I should've been given the option "Hey, would you like to upgrade?". I think I can fix it by reinstalling Windows 10 Home on the machine, though I don't know how to do this without losing the key that can only be accessed through settings. Help? [link] [comments]
What is the significance of Windows 95/98’s green wallpaper? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:35 PM PST I've always wondered this. Doesn't seem necessarily neutral like black or blue, nor easy on the eyes like gray. Your thoughts? [link] [comments]
why does the Microsoft store eventually fails to install apps? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:42 PM PST hi there is has always annoyed and frustrated me with windows 10 since i have been using it is with the Microsoft store for installing apps. in a nutshell its quick, convent and simple to install apps. however after a while i would go to update an app or install a new 1 it would always fail with some vague error like "something unexpected happened" then have Code: 0x80073CF9 which is ok but doesn't tell you why it has gone wrong. then searching for a way round has things like running the troubleshooter which does nothing or creating a certain folder which again does nothing. you follow certain steps like running DISM which finds nothing wrong. so you have search for various other ways round and find that other uses have the same issues or have before. long story short you are then forced to reinstall windows 10 along with your programs just because of how broken the Microsoft store is. its 2019 and im running the latest build of windows 10 yet it still has problems. with Linux store, you dont get any of these issues. it just works so why cant Microsoft put there effort into fixing the windows store and making it work better. has anyone found this after a while the Microsoft store stops working and despite following various "solutions" you have to reinstall windows or is the Microsoft store kind of pointless. with windows 7 you never had stupid problems like this. so why is the Microsoft store still broken? Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:28 AM PST Hiya guys, Recently got my Surface Go repaired by amazon, it's come back and was working until I restarted it and it's given me the error: "Your PIN is no longer available due to a change to the security settings on this device. You can set up your PIN again by going to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options." I've tried going to Troubleshoot > Reset but it doesn't have the option there anymore. Please help!!
