    Simple Questions - March 02, 2019

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:12 AM PST

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

Have a question about the subreddit or otherwise for /r/buildapc mods? We welcome your mod mail!

Just sitting on Reddit patiently waiting for the final part of my PC to arrive today.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 07:16 AM PST

Thought I would check in on you lovely people in this lovely subreddit as I wait for my 2600X. I've been waiting to build this PC for 6 months now, but waiting another hour is still painful.

Wish me luck! And thanks for all your advice in helping me plan this build over the past 6 months!

VA vs TN 1080p 144Hz Gaming monitor

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:41 AM PST

    Hello,

I'm looking for a 144Hz gaming monitor to pair with my 4K 60Hz monitor.

I already have the other monitor for daily use, editing and to watch movies, so this monitor would be just for high pace fps games, hence I'm just looking for raw performance and speed, still picture quality needs to be decent.

Would you recommend me a VA or TN panel? why?

If you have any good monitor suggestions let me know :) (1080p ~24 in)

    Thanks!

Please help me build a Frankenstein Optiplex gaming pc.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 03:15 PM PST

I'm looking to build an uber budget pc right now so I can play overwatch. Later on down the road I plan to build a capable machine but don't have the cash to do so right now, but still want to play up until I do.

I have a GTX 750 ti and $350. I'm looking to build around it, starting off by buying an old Optiplex that has a good CPU that synergizes with the GPU and won't bottleneck it. Will probably also buy it more RAM and a safer PSU, but would prefer to purchase as little as possible ideally.

I'm not really sure where to start off. I've been googling what the best optiplex is for a 750 ti but am not really making much ground. I also don't know which one would even fit the GPU. I've been using thebottlenecker.com to find which CPU works best with the GPU and trying to match it up with any Optiplexes but I'm having a hard time doing so. I could really use some help. What's my best course of action?

New Solo-PC Streaming Capabilities with NVENC (GPU) encoding increasing stream frame-rate up 60%

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 01:04 PM PST

Nvidia partnered with OBS to release their newest client that no longer relies on CPU encoding. With this older form of encoding it often left streamers who wanted to keep their high frame rate in games to either lower their stream quality or opt-in for a dual PC setup.

    Full Link Here

What are some of the frames you guys are getting now while streaming? Can your new RTX cards handle 720x60fps streaming while maintain 144+fps in games now?

Here is an NVIDIA guide on how to setup OBS for NVENC

edit: I found this youtuber's really insightful explanation of new OBS 23, and new RTX cards check it out if you don't like to read

First time PC build for gaming/photo editing, some questions

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 07:51 AM PST

Hi there. New to this sub, but I have some questions about my build that I am attempting to do over the rest of the year (parts are expensive these days.), and this seems to be the best place to ask.

To start it off, here's the build list from pcpartpicker. Version.....400 or so. Many sleepless nights I tell ya....
    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/GNr73b

The main purpose of this build is some gaming (I'm talking things like Stellaris, Fallout 4, Va11-Hall-A and shit...also Cyberpunk 2077, so nothing that this hardware couldn't handle) and picture editing since I am starting to get into the photography hobby. And editing pics on a 14 inch laptop...not fun.

The main points I am unsure about are the following:

    - this one is purely aesthetic, but can vinyl sticker survive in a PC case? Not sure how the general temps inside a case are, and if the stickers would be affected by them. I want to give it a bit of a cyberpunk/shadowrun style, so zaibatsu corp logo or laughing man logo on the drive shroud and stuff like that. nothing too fancy. Alternative might be an airbrush from an artist I know, but then we are talking about 150 bucks vs 20....

    - CPU...the 2700x is on occasion as low as 266 right now...that's what the ryzen 5 2600 used to cost, so incredible bang for the buck. do I really need more power for what I plan to do with my PC? Is it worth waiting for the Gen 3 Ryzens? Still a bit torn. New CPU means new Mainboard generation means fewer options.....not entirely sold on that.

    - any major issues in the build that I as a complete noob overlooked? the system builder says it wants about 414 watts, so I think I should be good with a 650 watt PSU?

    - There is a second build option, same components, but instead of the R6 it would use the O11 dynamic...But from what I read those cases should be pretty equal when it comes to quality. Plan is to put it below my desk, so not sure how much I would get out of the RGB components, or if I should save a couple hundred bucks and go no-RGB....

    - Monitors are going to get stacked. Wanted a widescreen and a normal one, but they have different hights, so side by side would drive me insane...stacked seems to work with a dual setup if the monitors are not the same. I know the iiyama are probably not the best, but they should be fine for my purpose, or am I missing anything?

So yeah..Thanks for anybody taking the time to read/respond. Haven't really kept up with the PC marked for years now, and getting back into it can get quite confusing.....

How choose the right motherboard? Power supply?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:45 AM PST

So I am trying to build my first computer and have been doing some research. However I am on a pretty low budget and I have no idea how to choose the right powersupply and Motherboard. Is there anything I need to look at for motherboard as long as the GPU fits and it fits in the case? How do I know which connectors I need for my computer. Will most powersupplies have the right connectors for Mainboard and hdd's? Can I add additional cables for the GPU?

    For reference, I am getting a rx 580 and an i3 8100.

    Thank you in advance!

    Low fps with new GPU

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:40 AM PST

So i've just jnstalled my new Gpu, a vega 56. I wanted to upgrade my entire pc but decided to get this already since there was a great deal on them (€269). Ive just jnstalled the card and the drivers and such, but the fps in some games is absolutely terrible. Im aware that my old cpu (fx 6300) is bottlenecking it but even when the cpu is running at 60% i cant manage to get even 60 fps in GTA V. Is there anything particular i need to look for? Before installing the vega i wiped all the nvidia drivers using DDU.

    What do i do??

My Brand New RX580 isn’t performing properly. Help!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 03:10 PM PST

So what's wrong with my RX 580 is that it doesn't give me optimal performance at all.

I'll be playing Rainbow with 1080x1920 res and low setting and I'll get like 50 FPS

    My parts

    CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor

    GPU: Radeon RX580 4GB

    Ram: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

    EDIT; Resolution is 1080x1920

    Monitor: 75hz Acer

    Using HDMI

People say I should get 120 FPS on Rainbow with these parts.

    User benchmark below

    UserBenchmarks: Game 58%, Desk 54%, Work 36%

    Model Bench
    CPU AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 76.1%
    GPU AMD RX 580 62.6%
    HDD WD Blue 1TB (2012) 63.9%
    RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws V DDR4 2400 C15 2x4GB 82.2%
    MBD MSI B350 TOMAHAWK (MS-7A34)

This is really a turn off. I've tried everything.

    Uninstalled and reinstalled driver

    Checked CPU ID

    Fiddled with settings in bios

Yes the HDMI is plugged into the GPU 😂

Could my GPU be broken? I ordered it online, brand new. Maybe I installed it terribly and fucked it up? Idk but it lights up, and the fans are turning.

Please help! It's been so long that I've had it and it's just shitty. It's working like I don't have a GPU at all! Please help I just wanna play what I payed for!

Build for my friend, final check

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:31 PM PST

    Build Help/Ready:

I'm helping my friend pick some parts and was wondering how the balance was for this system (and perhaps if there might be better value at this price range). The system is intended primarily for moderate gaming with a focus on single core performance (the games my friend plays are not well optimized). It's pretty easy to get parts that would satisfy my friend however I'd like to squeeze more value out of the budget. She will be purchasing her parts in the United States and her budget is around 800~900 USD. She prefers that the parts be new so the used market is off limits to me. The parts that I am most unsure of is the PSU and motherboard (she needs wifi which limits things).

    Looking to upgrade my pc

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 01:59 PM PST

I want to upgrade my PC to run games smoother. I have a asRock z68 extreme 3 gen 3 motherboard Intel i7 2600 CPU AMD Radeon 6870 1gb GPU

These are the parts I want to upgrade currently. What should I upgrade first and what's the best CHEAP upgrade I can do? I will probably need to change out motherboards for a new CPU but that's okay. I just need cheap replacements for the parts that will run good to record games (I would like to be able to run ark at goodish graphics) I was think a Radeon 580 gpu. Thoughts and help please?

Which RTX 2060 edition would you recommend?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:22 AM PST

I plan to buy 2060 soon, but I don't know which edition to get. I currently have Windforce GTX 770 and I haven't had problems with that one.

    I am deciding between:

    • Palit GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming Pro OC
    • Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 GAMING OC
    • Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 WindForce 2X OC
    • MSI GeForce RTX 2060 VENTUS OC
    • Gainward GeForce RTX 2060 Phoenix G S

Not sure which one to get? I think Gigabyte GAMING OC with 3 fans would be best bet, it has the same size as my actual GPU so it'll fit no problem.

Thanks for any kind of suggestions

    Cheers

    @Edit

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to go with Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 GAMING OC. I currently have GTX 770 Windforce with 3 fans and I think it's amazing. I feel like RTX 2060 edition will be the same. Can't wait to try it out.

I made a few pictures - it is the first time I actually bothered with Cable Management and the whole building process took me about a day. Windows installed in like 10 minutes - which was great because i initially installed the wrong version. I still have to fix the cables in the back of the PC.

Most demanding game I played so far was Metro Exodus which is above 120 FPS at all times with everything turned to max except DLSS @1440p.

The System is pretty silent while gaming. In Prime95 and Blender Physics Sims its getting quite loud (not unbearably so, mind you).

Best placeholder CPU until Ryzen 3000 series

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 03:25 PM PST

Hey guys, what would be the best placeholder CPU to purchase for my first build until the Ryzen 3000 series releases?

Right now I am wanting something that will play competitive FPS at 1080p 144fps such as OW, CSGO, Fortnite, Apex on low/medium settings. My plan is to upgrade to the 3000 series along with purchasing a 1440p 144fps monitor (single player games) and possibly a 1080p 240fps monitor (comp FPS).

My main concern right now is just getting my build finished ASAP and getting 1080p 144fps low/med settings.

Should I go with a 2200g, 1600x, 1700 or what? Here is my intended build with the 3000 series in mind. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rGqpw6

    Thank you!
