How to not by a Xiaomi A2 Lite - Rant! & Fix

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:27 AM PST

Let me start by saying all of the below started off because I did not go to a Xiaomi authorized re-seller as I should have!

I am writing this long post as it might help someone not fall into the same pit I fell into.

All of this started in Early February while I visited Singapore for a short vacation.

During my stay I though it would be great to get a phone while I was there and I had already selected the A2 lite by Xiaomi.

    Getting Scammed!

While in Serangoon Rd. Singapore I stumbled across a shop by the name "UniverCell" and got my self a A2 Lite.

at the time of purchase everything looked fine they even unpacked the phone in front of me and let me unbox it my self.

I even checked the IMEI against the MI Site which checked out as a global version A2 lite. The phone was few dollars less and the shop keeper said that it is less as there is no warranty on it and that they hardly get any returns. (My Stupid self believed him!)

I used the phone during the rest of my stay and was loving it!

    Realization that I was scammed!

Once when I got back to the Hotel I noticed that the PIE update did not happen as promised on the phone and few software's did not work on the device. Thinking that its a simple software issue which might be fixed with a factory reset I ignored it.

Upon return to my Home country I reset my device and tried the update... nothing! same issue..

while investigation the ROM version I noticed it is bit off with what is available online and also noticed that the version numbers under "About phone" are very different to other MI A2 lite's of my friends.

I even wrote to MI Singapore who confirmed it is a custom ROM and to sort the issue with the Shop which sold it to me. I had already returned to my home country and would not be in Singapore soon.

That was not an option and they were not helpful.

I then posted the following post on Redit.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/aqtax4/brand_new_a2_lite_was_sold_with_a_custom_os_need/

The friends on redit confirmed that this was indeed a custom ROM and not to use it as it could be leaking my data.

(I've even uploaded the screen clippings of the custom ROM on that post)

Trying to reset to factory ROM!

I am a newbi in this phone flashing scene and in the process I accidentally bricked my phone while trying to flash the original ROM while looking at multiple guides online.

upon realizing I might be able to get some pointers on the MI Community I posted for help there too.

There was one member who asked me to run fastboot.exe getvar all

This is when I realized the bitter truth that I was sold a Redmi 6 Pro rather than a A2 Lite.

(bootloader) product:sakura is what I got, If it were the correct A2 Lite it should show as "Daisy"

Upon realizing the bitter truth and that my phone will be bricked for ever I was almost loosing all hope on my Xiaomi device. All I wanted now was to get my self a safe usable phone with factory ROM.

The last attempt that fixed the phone to its original state (Redmi 6 Pro)

I tried to read as many threads as I can to gain knowledge on this and found out that you need an authorized account from Xiaomi to flash the ROM on EDL mode as it was not letting me flash from the my Xiaomi account.

Then I was trying to locate a Xioami Authorized account which is almost impossible to acquire.

Few posts led me to this site called s-unlock which helps you via a remote session. as I had nothing to lose as I was already scammed by the shop in Singapore. I spent another small amount trying to see if I have any luck with this service.

Once the payment was done I was supposed to talk to them on FB.

A person logged in and typed in his Xiaomi account. I connected my phone via EDL mode after removing the back cover and voila! I was able to flash it with the Factory ROM which is MIUI China version.

I can now use the phone in its original stat a Redmi pro 6 not a A2 Lite .

At least now I know that my data is safe and I have a usable phone.

Thank you Redit and all those who helped me get my phone back to life...

Which one to get? Poco, Mi 8 or Mix 2s?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:54 AM PST

Hey guys. I seriously need help. Can't decide between these 3 phones. Poco is 295€, mix 2s 330€ and Mi 8 is 360€. But I can't decide. I must mention that I am a student and I don't have any part-time job, because of the age restrictions. Also i am a passionate sportsman. I would like to get long lasting battery but also quality camera. I absolutely don't care about the front facing camera, the absence of 3.5 mm jack is not that important. NFC would be nice, but not required. Have to mention that I like outdoor activities, so smaller dimensions are better. Also i would like to ask the owners of Mix 2s. How is your battery. I've read reviews that say the battery is a bit sketchy. Mainly in benchmarks. Are these issues still present or were they removed with updates? Thank you for every response

Blocking all the Chinese IP addresses on MIUI without root?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:31 PM PST

I wanna switch back to MIUI because of multiple reasons - I got bored of custom ROMs; Google Pay and other similar apps don't work properly on custom ROMs; I kinda like MIUI 10 and plan to buy Redmi Note 7 Pro.

My utmost concerns are privacy and ads. I can use AdGuard and block all the ads on MIUI. But Xiaomi mines every little piece of personal data and I don't want my phone to connect to Chinese servers at all, except maybe for official updates. Don't plan to root the phone either as payment apps won't work. Is there anyway to block connections to Chinese servers without root? I'm aware of AdAway but it needs root.

I am getting a Roborock e20, how does it do with rooms at the ends of halls? Will it find them and go into them? Will it get stuck in them and forget how to use the door and hall to come back to the living room?

Is there seriously no way to hide notification preview content on the lock screen??

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:40 PM PST

    Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite

I want to hide text message/WhatsApp previews on my lock screen. I do NOT want to hide the notification entirely. I DO want to see that I have a text message from so and so just NOT show any message preview. Pretty basic and completely normal notification setup.

I did some Googling and found a write up about using App Lock and I thought that would work fine, but it's making me unlock my phone and then still put in a code to open the messaging app or whatever. Besides, this didn't show me on the lock screen who the message was from, which I would prefer.

I'm honestly mostly dumbfounded here that this isn't just a default and easily enabled option. Am I just overlooking something totally obvious or is this completely basic feature somehow not available on this phone/Android?

This is my first serious foray into Android and I'm pretty pleased with this phone so far, other than this which is going to almost be a deal breaker for me. Surely there's a way to do this. Thanks for any help

Is the update issues on all xiaomi phones or just in its android one phones?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:03 PM PST

I am using mi A2 and the first few months of using it is great. It is very stable and very much in love with it. Not until updates broke the phone, after some updates camera lags, photo quality decreases and bugs on screen colors and so on. So my question is it is just in Android One phones or MIUI is also the same in every update? I choose mi A2 because of the price and I want to buy their flagship but I'm afraid I might get this kind of experience.

    Compact xiaomi phones

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:07 PM PST

Hi, does xiaomi still sell compact phones that can be used in Europe?

By compact I'm truly not talking about screen size (because even smaller sized screens can have huge body dimensions).

I bought a Redmi Note 4x on the recommendation of others who said it's not too big but it is so huge and heavy I hate using it and eventually got an old iPhone 6s which is just the right size for my hands.

Now in 2019 are there any Xiaomi phones similar in size and weight to the iPhone 6s?

It would be nice if as much of the phone front is screen. I don't play games so not a gaming phone.

    Thank you!

What is wrong with my scooter (battery life)?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:16 AM PST

I bought a brand new M365 (OEM, not knockoff) scooter and when I charge it the app shows I have a 7800MAH battery, but I only get about 6 miles (about 10.5 km) per charge. This was a 2018 model. I am pretty close to the weight limit with 215lbs, but I could swear that I rode a Bird scooter (also an M365) much further before. Is this consistent with other people's experiences? Anyone know why I get such crappy battery life?

Anyone have experience buying a replacement battery on eBay?

I know that the note 6 is very similarto the 5 and also similar in price. I heard thay the note 7 is out too, but im wondering if it is in stock as she needs it asap. What is the best deal? Is there any difference in the phones or should she buy the note 5? Also what about any other similar models? Maybe pocophone? Thanks!

[Help] Mi A2 stuck on android one loading screen

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:10 PM PST

Phone is stuck and does not respond to anything. I have tried pressing power and volume up at the same time to reset. I'll get a slight buzz and vibration, the screen will turn off for two seconds and turn back onto the android one loading screen. Nothing else happens. The screen will stay on for about 5 minutes or so and turn black finally.

I got this phone for my dad as a fairly cheap phone he can take pics and do stuff with. Gave it to me today and said stuck on android one screen. Is this a bootloading issue? How can I fix it? I'm not exactly experienced with android phones so I'm not sure what to do. So I figured I'd come here and ask. I'm fairly sure he's updated to the latest version of android on the phone. Let me know if I can provide any more information. Thanks.

    Issues with Roborock S50 Vacuum

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:46 PM PST

Has anyone had any issues with this robot just stopping in the middle of cleaning and becoming unresponsive?

I have had a S50 for 4-6 months now and in the last 3 weeks the robot will just stop in the middle of a cleaning cycle. Sometimes it will resume where it left off after a few minutes, but most often it will sit there and do one of two things.

    It either...

    1. Sits there for 5 min or so being unresponsive and then will allow me to press the button to begin cleaning or go back to the dock. When this happens the robot begins the cleanup from the beginning, it doesn't resume where it left off
    2. Sits there unresponsive until the battery dies

Anyone having similar issues? I emailed customer support, which yielded nothing.

    Reboot miui without power button?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:20 PM PST

I have a MI Mix (original) with miui global 10.2, but my power button has been broken for the past few months. Now I'm having issues where my alarm won't stop going off because the screen that is supposed to pop up to turn them off is not popping up. Does anyone know a way to reboot the phone other than just letting it die and going to recovery mode?

    Tripadvisor app on Xiaomi phones

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:28 AM PST

Anyone else having issues with this app? Pocophone f1 here, it gets stuck on a green screen. Same with my old redmi note 2 although an earlier version back in August was working normally on my old phone. Checked the comments in the app store and found out there are problems with other Xiaomi phones too..
