Windows 7 -> Windows 10 -> Windows 7, Activation issue Posted: 25 Feb 2019 04:03 PM PST Hi. I have a laptop (Toshiba Satellite L500), which, yes I know is quite old. This laptop came with Windows 7 pre-installed. In 2016, after many prompts from the computer, I allowed it to 'free-upgrade' itself to Windows 10. Windows 10, for many reasons, was not working out for me - which I assume was likely to do with bloating over time, and my laptop being quite old. It got so slow that I decided to roll back to Windows 7. The only hardware change I made to the computer was replacing the 4GB RAM with 8GB (in an attempt to solve Win10's slowness). Unfortunately I have misplaced over the last decade my Toshiba restore disks, so I downloaded the installers for Windows 7, and started from scratch reinstalling the edition of Windows that came with my computer. After installing Windows 7 Home 32bit, I realised my error in not being able to use the increased RAM, so I installed Windows 7 Home 64bit. The computer is now blinking at me to "activate Windows" every time I turn it on. I can't use the original Product Key, because it was printed on a sticker underneath the laptop, but because it was underneath the laptop, it is entirely unreadable. The internet leads me to believe Windows should recognise the hardware/motherboard and "know" it was previously activated on this machine, but it seems to not do that. Can anyone help me fix this issue? [link] [comments]

Windows 10 - Boot - Is my computer dead? Desperately needing help Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:12 PM PST At this point, i'm very desperate really dont know what to do. Basically, i come back to my computer after a break and its all frozen. I shut it manually, by holding pressing the power button. When i tried to start it, it kept loading forever and ever. I turn it off again, and try to "interrupt" it while loading, so the automatic windows repair would diagnose my computer at the next booting screen. Every time i get to that point (the automatic windows repair), it loads, i get redirected to a BSOD (error code: DRIVER PNP WATCHDOG), and thats whats happens every time. It then restarts my computer automatically and redirects me to this error code (0xc000000e) windows/system32/winload.exe. After this im pretty much stuck and cant do anything. The error code picture is taken from google, and i do not have the options listed below as he has. I have the top one, Press Enter to try again, and literally nothing happens but the same screen over and over. I've made a bootable windows on my USB, to try to gain access to the same options as the automatic windows repair gives you. I've tried dskchk, on the command prompt and that didn't work either sadly - it gives me a error saying CHKDSK Is not available for RAW drives. Neither does NONE of the other options i have on the automatic repair after inserting the USB seem to work at all... I even tried to download the files from the bootable USB to my computer, but it did not give me access to that either. It gives me an error with the disk. Can someone please help me out? I'm getting very desperate. At this point, i dont really mind if i have to wipe/delete all my files, as long as i can use my computer again. If needed, i can send or upload pictures of my settings on my BIOS. [link] [comments]

How can I install Windows 10 1809? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:00 AM PST I recently received a laptop that has a 32 GB (chip) drive. The entire OS takes up 30 GB, leaving me with 2 GB of space left. I also have some external hard drives of 2 TB of space. Windows Update lets me select if I want to use the external drives, however, I still must have at least 2.5 GB space on the laptop's drive. I've deleted everything I can, including apps that were installed with Windows automatically (i.e. Skype, LinkedIn...), but I still can't get more spaced. Everything on the drive is also compressed. I don't know how I can get the update to install. Is there a way to have it install entirely using the external drive? If there isn't a simple way to do so, is there any way to stop having Windows interrupting about an 'update' that I can't install. Do I even need this update: is it just adding features and not a security update? Thank you for reading and any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:10 AM PST Since win 7 is soon going to stop getting updates I'd like to upgrade to win 10 but before I spend the money I want to know whether I can still claim a legal copy even with an OEM key for 7 or is it only available to the retail version. And if It is possible, what do I do to get it? [link] [comments]
Homegroup equivalent for two home PCs? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:07 AM PST I am currently in the process of setting up a laptop for a friend, who currently also has a desktop PC also. She wants to be able the access all her files on both devices. The laptop is running W10, the desktop is running W7. They've discontinued homegroup for W10, and I'd rather avoid going through Google Drive or another exterior cloud service if I can, because the adaptation for her accessing her files differently would be kinda hard (she's 74).. Is there any way to get the homegroup feature on w10? Or something I can install that would be an equivalent? [link] [comments]

"It appears that we don't support this file format" on the majority of my photos. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:00 PM PST Been having this issue for a little while, and it's really driving me nuts. I can't open photos in Photos, Paint, etcetc. I can upload them into discord and they will show, weirdly, so the file format isn't corrupted past viewing. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
