Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:08 PM PST Ever since I upgraded to Android 9 (Pie) the sound for Facebook and the game Clash Royal are way too loud on the lowest setting. It is very annoying as I have to pretty much go without sound or just have it annoyingly loud. What can I do to fix this? I am using a Galaxy S9+ [link] [comments] |
Can you help "alleviate my pain and suffering" from these voicemails, please? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:13 PM PST Starting several months ago, I began getting lots of spam phone calls from the same area code promising "top of the line braces to alleviate my pain and suffering". Every time I got one, I'd add the number to my blocked caller list. Two weeks ago, the calls stopped ringing on my phone and are now somehow directly leaving voicemail, 10-15 times a day. Is there a way to prevent any calls from going straight to voicemail? All other calls ring through properly, so it's not a DND setting. Disabling voicemail entirely is not an option for me. HTC U11/AT&T/Android 8 Thanks for any suggestions! [link] [comments] |
Preventing apps from automatically starting during boot Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:06 PM PST I have installed "Application Inspector" and have seen that some apps need a permission called "RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED" that allows them to run at startup. Do these apps really need to run at startup? Is it possible to disable this permission for some apps (perhaps via ADB)? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Ordered new phone, apps randomly crashing? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 06:13 PM PST Hey, I ordered a new LG G7 ThinQ for Sprint a week ago. It's been a little weird in the sense that I often get "Google has stopped working" and "Google Play Services has stopped working" repeatedly, and it's very annoying. Sometimes using other apps, like Snapchat and Spotify, they will crash after a while and often times instantly crash every time I try to open them again until I restart my phone
Things I've tried: Disable as many google related apps as possible Clear data/cache on as many google related apps as possible Disable as many stock LG/Sprint apps ass possible Restart the device Factory reset the device Remove Google account from the phone Uninstall Google Play Services updates
None of these solutions had an effect. Typically the phone operates fine for a while, and then Google/Google Play Services begins to repeatedly crash before other apps I am using follow suit and I need to restart the device for it to be operational. If I continue to use the device, simply confirming the dialogue boxes that notify me apps are crashing, the device will sometimes hang or even restart on its own. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:39 AM PST I'm an android user who is looking for a good browser with ad-block built-in. From my research, Bromite and Kiwi are good for this. What do you think about them? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:53 PM PST If anyone has been keeping up with my posts in this sub lately, I'm planning to make the long-awaited switch from iOS to Android, and a significant motivation for my doing so is the freedom and rootability that it gives me... including the particular use case of being able to play my YouTube music playlists in the background without having to shell out for YouTube Red cause I'm poor. As far as I can tell, YouTube Vanced is currently the only working solution out there for doing this. Am I right in thinking this? If so, do many people here use YouTube Red, and how do they find the experience? [link] [comments] |
No APN network and locked out of being able to add one. Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:19 PM PST My wife and I have Samsung Galaxy 9+ through Xfinity which uses the Verizon network. We recently got the update for Pie and did it. Mine works fine still. My wife's on the other hand can't do picture messaging or mobile data. We did some googling and it suggested fixing the APN network. I quickly found the correct settings and went to do that only to find that we are unable to add or revert to default or make any changes to the APN settings. It says "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user", the Add button is greyed out, as is the Reset to Default in the menu button options. On my phone it has the correct APN settings. I've called Xfinity Mobile support, went into the store where they swapped out the SIM card, tried various network resets and we even factory reset the phone. We got conferenced in with Samsung support last night who had suggested factory reset but that didn't work either. None of that has solved the problem. Currently on hold with Samsung support, as we were told we were going to need to replace the phone to solve this problem. So frustrated that something which would be a 2 minute fix easily done previously is now seemingly impossible to fix because the carriers want to lock everything down. Anyone have any other suggestions before we have to get an entirely new phone? [link] [comments] |

samsung email not working with google email Posted: 05 Feb 2019 10:30 AM PST I have been using Samsung's default email for a long time for my Hotmail and Gmail address'. I just got the Note 9 and went to setup my email address'. I setup my hotmail and it work's fine. I go to setup my Gmail one and it gave me unable to connect to email server to verify account information. No response from server. I have cleared everything from the email app file. I have removed my account and added it back. I even approved samsung email to work on my note 9 from google's security. I went to verify the settings on my old phone which was a galaxy s8+ and noticed it's not receiving also. What have I missed and or what am I doing wrong to get this issue resolved. I have been searching for almost 2 hrs trying to figure out what is wrong and I feel like I'm lost. What am I doing wrong? [link] [comments] |
A very STRANGE question about my Sony phone battery life Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:11 AM PST I have Sony Xperia Z3 for at least 4+ years now and the most curious part about it is that it's 3100 battery (a li-ion, not even li-pol) holds the charge like it's a day one purchase. Now don't get me wrong, I'm using it actively from charging it every day (with relatively heavy multimedia usage) to using it for 3-5 days with casual 5 hour screen time. I'm not gaming on it though. The question is what is this magic? I have never seen this level of battery degradation (or rather the lack of it). Is it a software thing with Sony polished Android or hardware thing? Autocorrect stopped working on S8+ Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:05 AM PST I was using the default Samsung Keyboard on my S8+, and auto-correct was working fine, until I downloaded Swiftkey. I used it for a minute, decided I didn't like it, and reverted to Samsung Keyboard, but it seems that Swiftkey ruined auto-correct somehow. I've also tried Gboard, and auto-correct is also not working. I have it enabled in settings, obviously. [link] [comments] |

Can you set the default "USB Controlled by" option? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 02:05 PM PST I recently bought an Anker PowerCore 20100 power bank, which is technically compatible through the USB C to USB C cable. However, every time I plug in my Google Pixel, my phone automatically begins to charge the power bank (?) instead of the power bank charging my phone. To fix this, I have to change the USB Controlled By setting in the USB Preferences menu from "Connected device" to "this device". This gets a little tedious. I saw that you can set the default USB configuration in the developer settings, but you can't change the USB Controlled by setting through that. Is there an option that I'm missing? Or maybe an app to automatically do this? [link] [comments] |
Treble GSI on MTK phone with out-of-the-box 9.0? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:49 PM PST I threw this out on the XDA forum, but thought I would sign up and try my luck here as well and see if anyone has some insight. I've read a lot about certain MTK phones having a number of issues running GSI Roms. In addition, I've read a decent amount about the changes in treble implementation for phones released with 9.0 as opposed to 8.0 or 8.1. I'm debating getting the Umidigi F1 and am wondering if there is any reason to be hopeful that it may be more successful running GSI roms than previous phones? GSI roms on their phones released with Oreo seem to have a number of issues with incoming text messages, lack of data, etc. I'm on T-Mobile and bands 2/4/12 are very solid in my area with band 71 still a ways out. As a result, I really like the hardware for the price point, but given reviews for their other phones as well as Umidigi's history, I don't really have much of an interest running the phone with its stock software. Assuming it's not going to have a development community, I thought I'd throw it out to those far more knowledgeable on the technology and ask if I could reasonably hope for it to be fully functional on a stock GSI? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Recovering data from broken S5 Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:34 PM PST So I broke my Samsung S5 a few weeks ago. The screen is cracked and doesn't turn on at all, and doesn't respond to touch. I have gotten a new one, but would like to restore some of the data I had stored there (contacts, memos, etc.). I can't use traditional data restoration since I can't unlock the phone to access the files on a computer. I have tried the other advertised options like dr. fone and other services. They all seem to work, but cost a decent amount for year-long subscriptions when I only really need it once. Are there any other free alternatives? Or other ways to recover data from a broken phone? Appreciate any advice [link] [comments] |
Any way to grant apps accessibility through ADB? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:58 AM PST I'm trying to give this app accessibility privileges: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kim.uno.s8 but something's obscuring the request and not letting me grant it permission so I was wondering if there was a way to grant accessibility privileges through adb. App switch autoscroll, slow gestures Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:43 PM PST Just updated my S9 to run with OneUI, and I'm having a couple issues. Firstly, when I open the [recents/app switcher/overview] it immediately scrolls to the second most recently used app, which I'm finding really annoying. I'm also finding the gestures take a little while to activate when swiping up, and was wondering if anyone has a way to speed them up. Thanks in advance for any help :)) [link] [comments] |
How can I make it so downloaded images appear at the front of my gallery when posting on other apps? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 06:30 PM PST This is a super frustrating issue ive had for years across multiple devices. I search for an image using chrome/ the google app, download it, and then when I go to post it in an app it doesnt appear in my gallery. Im not sure if its a media cache issue or if the phone doesnt recognize the pictures as "new" and hides them deep down. Whats the best way to make them not only appear in the gallery, but also be on the top in order of date downloaded like it should? current phone is lg g7 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 10:03 AM PST Hi! I have over 3k contacts on my Gmail but only 2.4k synced on my phone... Would some of you here know how to get the rest onto my phone? It doesn't look like there are syncing issues when looking at the settings. Thanks a bunch! [link] [comments] |
