How to sign Virtualbox modules with enrolled MOK key? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:36 AM PST I created a Machine Owner Key during my previous installation (Ubuntu). Later, I installed Fedora but I didn't backup my MOK files. Now I need to sign Virtualbox modules with the key I enrolled previously. The problem is that I need MOK.priv and MOK.der files to do that. So, is there any way to sign the modules without having these files? (Or to retrieve them?) [link] [comments] |

writing a bash script to dynamically read text files Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:43 AM PST I'm tying to trying to write a bash script to where I would have a few text files and I would like to use a bash script to run what ever text file I want to read. so say I name the bash script "readtext" I would like it to be able to put a argument where it would be the name of the text file so if I have a text files that are named text1, text2 and text3 Id like to run the script like this: "readtext text1" and "readtext text2". Ive tried to look around but I don't think Ive found what I'm looking for when it comes to this. [link] [comments] |
Which basic softwares should I install in my Wine drive? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 06:07 AM PST By "basic software" I mean those ones needed to run other programs, you'll see some of them below. Two basic softwares that I already have: NET. Framework: (dotNet) There is no need to explain this one since a lot of linux-users already install it in their Wine drives. I am surprised with how many programs use it. GTK2 Run time: although it comes from the Linux World, I cannot run a Windows GTK program without it. This software is necessary to make me able to run StarDict Editor, but it is useful for other programs too like an Esperanto dictionary that I have here. . So, which more softwares (and also DLLs) do you recommend me to install in my Wine drive (actually Wine driveS since I have a 32bit Wine drive too) ? For example, should I install Microsoft DirectX in my Wine drive? Should I install also the Visual C++ Runtimes? Which more? [link] [comments] |

Tearing on Nvidia card.[Solus Budgie] Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:33 AM PST I've been going crazy over screen tearing ever since I switched to Linux. I've tried installing/uninstalling drivers(currently using proprietary ones), enabling "Force Composition Pipeline" and or "Force Full Composition Pipeline". I even tried compton and neither has solved the issue. Infact I think compton made it worse since ontop of the already existing tearing there was a very noticeable delay, because of VSync. I have no idea what to do and it's driving me mad. [link] [comments] |

New build, display and shut down issues Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:22 PM PST So I built a computer last week Ryzen 5 2600 msi procarbon mobo and GeForce gtx 1070. Had it up and running fine the last couple days no issues. But I was in the middle of a loading screen today and suddenly the screen went black and showed no display. My computer will not display from either the hmdi connector or the hdmi on the mobo. Even though the computer is not showing any display, it is still running and even if I depress the power it won't stop running. Had to turn the surge protector off (also is that bad?) after this it will turn on when power is depressed but won't shut off unless power is pulled. Running mint and unsure of what to do. At work now but I'd love sole tips on things to try when I get hole. [link] [comments] |

For some reason I can't resize/expand the home partition. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:21 PM PST I have an ext4 partition that I want to expand using an unallocated 50gig partition, however I only seem to be able to shrink it. None of the partitions are mounted due to me running a live usb so that shouldn't be the problem This is using ubuntu. [link] [comments] |

Need to delete everything on my Chromebook to make space for a new linux os. I have an Acer Chromebook 15, CB3-571, with Intel and a Celeron CPU N2830. My Chromebook currently has no OS. [link] [comments] |
Debian server freezes after ~1 day Posted: 27 Feb 2019 09:04 PM PST I built a Linux server running Debian 9. It's running plex, plexpy (these both run in docker), samba, and mergerfs. The server runs but then after about a day, maybe more maybe less, it seems to hard lock. The PC is still running, the output on the monitor just shows the login screen but it's frozen. I can't type and the cursor is not blinking. The plex server does not respond and I can't ssh into the machine. One time I did see it do this, I can't make heads or tails of it though: http://imgur.com/aPZtbe4 I'm not sure if this matters but I'm using wifi to connect my server(yes I know hosting a media server on wifi is sucky). The reason I'm bringing that up is I fiddled around with getting the drivers for it. The card is an Asus PCE-N15. I though that might be important I know I need to look at logs to help narrow down the issue but I can't really tell what to look for or which log files to look at. If someone could help me out with this. I wanted to try and use Linux for a server as a replacement for windows so I just don't have the experience with it that I would need to troubleshoot. Thanks! Edit: Here are my specs Cpu: Ryzen 1600 Mobo: ASROCK B450M PRO4 Ram: 16GB 3200 (Gskill) Boot drive: Samsung 860 Evo m.2 ssd(I wanted all the sata ports I could get) Storage: 2 x 4TB WD Reds [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2019 09:00 PM PST I was just curious, is there any specific laptop needed to run linux on? I know you can install linux anywhere. Im asking in a sense like for any recommendations of which laptop is preferable to install linux? [link] [comments] |
Trying to combine the output of 2 devices into 1 Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:10 AM PST Alright so I'm trying to play a Gamecube Game (Windwaker) using dolphin emulator. I synced this Wii remote to my system (event17), and I plugged in the nunchuk. The problem is that the Nunchuk (event20) comes up as a completely separate device, and Dolphin will only allow 1 device to be mapped to each virtual controller. So I was wondering if their was a way to make a new virtual device, where I combine the output of both the Wii remote and Nunchuk? [link] [comments] |

Looking to install 2 distros on one machine, how should the partitions be set up? Posted: 27 Feb 2019 08:38 PM PST I already have a Debian install on my system, and I want to be safe and not have any screw-ups, since I do not wish to reinstall it, because I've customized it a bit and have installed some software on it. I won't be sharing files between the two distros. The second distro will change from time to time, since I'm doing this for the reason of testing out different distros. I want to keep things simple and easy for myself, so could I have a separate /, home, and swap partition for both of them? EDIT: If I can't get it to work, could I possibly use any virtualization method(s)? I only have 2 Gigs RAM though, and I won't upgrade it since it would require me to replace the entire motherboard (My machine is a chromebook; It has very special hardware.) [link] [comments] |
