How often do you replace each laptop if you have both and what do you generally spend on them? I use a MacBook for work and productivity and music and I use a Gaming Laptop for AAA Games on the go.

    Windows User to MacOS

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:54 AM PST

Hi, I am thinking of upgrading/changing my laptop which is an old gen HP. A few of the options that I was thinking of include the 13 or 15 inch Macbook Pro but I am weary due to being a Windows user all my life. I have some familiarity with MacOS as I have used it quite regularly in lessons but, never for the tasks I would be using it for (coding, photo editing, video editing, photoshop, word processing and other student related tasks). So I was wondering what experiences people have had in moving from Windows 10 to MacOS and whether it may be advisable to stick with windows (I'm looking at Razer Blade 13/15) and whether it was a quick change or took a lot of time and frustration to get used to the new OS.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Please help! Laptop not turning on

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 07:38 AM PST

I'm not too good with laptops. I have a Hewlett-Packard core i7 laptop. I recently just turned it on in hopes to update my vape/ecig I plugged in the vape to the laptop when the laptop was starting up and some smoke came out from the vape and my laptop shut off and will not turn back on. I've tried taking out the battery and reconnecting and nothing will work. When I plug in my laptop to charge it. The glowing orange charging light comes on but the laptop won't power up. If anyone could help me out here it would be a big help. Thanks

Acer Nitro 5 Spin vs Asus Zenbook Flip

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:28 AM PST

I was wondering which of these two would be better to get?

    Asus Zenbook Flip

    or

    Acer Nitro 5 Spin

The better processor and more memory on the Nitro Spin is tempting, but the better battery life on the Zenbook would also be useful.

Mainly to be used for Uni work, with some photo editing (Lightroom and Bridge).

Wondering what the battery life I would get on the Nitro Spin would be while using Lightroom, or if I am just better off going straight for the Zenbook.

Fujitsu Lifebook UH552 - Not charging, no sign of life.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:18 AM PST

My old Lifebook UH552 stopped charging a few years ago so I decided to buy a new one.

I had it checked out at the local IT-service center in my home town. They said that the motherboard was bad and that it wasn't worth repairing. They told me to just get a new one.

    How it all began:

My UH552 battery started to charge inconsistently for a while and one day it died and never turned back on. (Worth mentioning is that the charger also made a squeaking sound just before the computer gave up on me).

I bought a new charger and connected it to the computer did not respond.

That's where I left it and haven't touched it since.

I wonder if it might be possible that the computer could start again if I got a new battery?

I am a little bit sceptical to what they told me at the IT-service center. They're known for being some what unprofessional.

I have tried to plug in the charger while the battery was disconnected from the motherboard. This did not show any sign of life. I did this because I read somewhere that this could make a dead Lifebook come back to life.

My concern is that this method was meant for Lifebooks with removable batteries (UH552 has a built-in battery).

    My question is:

Is it possible that Lifebook UH552 receives power through the battery unlike Lifebooks (with removable batteries) which can receive power directly from the AC?

If that's the case then I could just get a new battery. I thought I'd ask here first, since a new battery cost around 40-80 USD.

Could my Lifebook still be working or is it toast? Hopefully someone can answer my question.

    Best regards,

What laptop do I purchase so that it doesn’t breakdown beyond repair within a year??

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:14 AM PST

So from a laptop all I want is some basic Microsoft function and the ability to play video games. However literally all three laptops I have had end up the same way, they won't start up other than a message saying it's fucked beyond repair (paraphrasing). What can I get for around £350 that can play games decently but won't breakdown rapidly? (I don't know what's wrong, with the last one I was clean as a whistle, didn't go on anything remotely dodgy and had mcafee protection?)

What are some laptops with a gaming grade GPU, but looks completely normal from the outside.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 01:32 AM PST

All gaming laptops look like bloody spaceships from star wars. What are some laptops that have the same aesthetic of a normal laptop (like a macbook), but have a beast GPU inside them. I like to play games, but no way in hell am I carrying one of them asus predator laptops around in public.

    Time to update my laptop

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:27 AM PST

My current laptop is over 6 years old. I used to game on it. I had it heavily modified cause it was cheaper at the time to buy a stock and upgrade the parts i could. Now i need to get a new one, and I'm an AMD snob. I'd like an AMD ryzen cpu but can't find them with a rtx graphics card. how screwed am i?

[SPEC] Is 4GB of RAM is enough for web development?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:52 AM PST

Hey. So Im about to to sell my gaming laptop which has terrible battery life and buy a new laptop. I found one option "lenovo yoga 530" and I kinda like it. It has 4gb and 8 gb options, but price jumps up by around 400€. So I want to ask if 4GB of RAM is enough for fullstack development, and beeing able to browse on web at the same time if anything. Or maybe you can give any other options for me to choose from up to 800€. It will be just a work laptop that i will use while outside home in some coffe to not get too distracted by other activities. All i want are as good of a keyboard and display as at can get at that budget, 14'-15', FHQ and main thing is great battery life.

    Thanks in advance!

Edit: wont do graphic desnign on this laptop. Just coding

    Buying a MECH15G2

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:45 PM PST

I'm Interested in an eluktronics mech15g2. I will buy it from italy.

I can't really make sense of the Buying page on their website https://www.eluktronics.com/MECH-15-G2

If I leave everything blank and go to checkout, will the computer come without ram or hard disk? It's confusing.

Also, What specs do you recommend? I would like good performance for the price, not very noisy

    Any good non OEM batteries?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 07:41 PM PST

I have an old Asus G53S (2011) that I wanted to use when returning to school but its battery is completely roasted. I've heard bad things about third party batteries but on the other hand it seems unlikely I'll find any legitimate OEM batteries that aren't also old and useless.

Any options besides use it as a more portable desktop? I'm sure they have plugs where I need to use it but it's nice to have the battery.

    Laptop for Autodesk Maya

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 01:05 AM PST

I'm looking to buy a laptop that will run Maya reasonably well, without breaking the bank.

Since Maya usually only utilizes one core at a time, a laptop with a fast dual core processor ought to perform better than a laptop with slower quad core processors.

Anyone have any recommendations for laptops I should look at? Budget is around $1000 - $1200

Vertical Laptop Stands? Are they worth getting? Are they problematic?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:13 PM PST

I was thinking off getting one, but how on earth would I power my laptop on/off then?

Even though the power button for my laptop is on the side, laptops can't power on unless the lid is open right?

Is there a way to bypass this or something? Because I frequently shut down & re power on my laptop.
