Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:39 AM PST So, I've bought this laptop and long story short on its first day of utilization it wouldn't work unless plugged. On the second repair they even had to change all the main components. Since then it has gone two more times for repairing. Now, over more half a year of demanding a refund/replacement it has been more time under repair and waiting to be picked up than I've actually used it. One thing I didn't report because I was unsure then is the network card. The internet connection on that computer just plainly fails sometimes and doesn't consistently reach acceptable speeds. I've confirmed it's not due to location, router or other external issues since I've tried the same tasks with other laptops and Wi-Fi. I kindly ask your help since I have a semester starting and just spent the previous one without said device. TL;DR: I'm going to soon pick up from repair my Frankenstein laptop from the store and would like to prove the employees there are issues with its wireless card. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:03 AM PST Yesterday I was gaming and everything was going great. My CPU fan has been unreasonably loud lately, but I figured it was going out soon and ordered a new one. Halfway through the game the computer shut down. Try to reboot it after a bit, it sounds like it is powering up but nothing. No lights on my keyboard, mouse, and screen says no dvi input. Power light on the comp shows it's running and I can hear a fan. I open it up after disconnecting everything. 3/4 mounts on the heatshrink and fan are busted and I can move it about a quarter inch up and down. I held the power button down for 30 seconds with everything disconnected (power cord, mouse, etc.) Looking for CMOS beep, no luck. Doesn't work. Disconnected both RAM sticks and got a continuous cycle of two beeps. (Good sign right?) GPU fan isn't running at all when I try to turn the fan on. Seems like no power is going to it. Unplugged and replugged cables to make sure everything is getting a good connection. Doesn't look like any pins are bent. I'm at a loss and don't know if this is the correct sub but I'm frustrated and me and a friend don't know what else to try. Short of just throwing parts at it to try and fix it, which I might as well just build a new PC. Specs: (I'll do my best, it was pre built and I bought it used from a family member, worked fine for almost 2 years) Alienware x51 R3 Supposedly Intel i7 PNY Graphics card 2x 8gb RAM? Air cooled Windows 10 /Unresolved [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 proxies have been changed and locked Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:21 PM PST I stumbled upon an exe when I was checking to see why I was lagging and noticed that all of my connections were being routed through it plus stopping it just caused 403 errors since it was now the proxy It's also prevented me from changing the proxy settings so I can't fix it from inetcpl.cpl, recommendations? currently downloading adwcleaner and ccleaner. EDIT: I've solved my proxy being changed by altering the registery and I've removed the program causing it but I'm still unable to access the LAN settings gui from inetcpl, can't find anything in the policies or registery that would be preventing it [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 02:24 PM PST I have my users set up to folder redirect "desktop / Documents / appdata". However the user gets an error of "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." This only happens for the microsoft office suite... is there anyway to fix that? [link] [comments] |
Windows 7 Hangs at Loading Screen Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:59 PM PST TL;DR Windows 7 hangs at loading screen, and sometimes (when it does boot) will not recognize my secondary harddrive. What's happening? Sometimes, I go to boot up Windows 7 from my SSD, and rather than taking the 50 seconds, it takes longer, and then longer, and then much longer, until it cannot boot at all. Boot time seems to erode, each time I restart, or turn on my computer. What has changed to cause this? I've had some power-outages (though I'm not sure if it maters). I also purchased an amazon essentials Xbox One Controller (which did not work with Windows 7 Plug-Play, but I found a driver that did enable it). What have I tried to do so far? The first few times, I tried to use the default windows repair tools, and it actually would work (I'm not used to windows repair tools working). Sometimes I would boot the windows repair tools from the BIOS, and sometimes I would use the Windows 7 disk to do so. I would run Windows Check Disk / Disk Repair, and it would sometimes come back with errors, and sometimes not. After the 3rd or 4th time of my computer not being able to boot at all, I noticed that even my Windows 7 disk also would not work. So... after realizing that "sometimes" my 2nd HD would not be recognized, and "sometimes" my primary HD OS wouldn't load, and "sometimes" my disk-drive also wouldn't work, and "sometimes" Windows would find errors with my disk(s), I was almost certain, that my motherboard must be fried and not transferring data (or supplying power) correctly to all of my HD/diskdrives at the same time. So I did, what I though was the logical thing, and purchased another motherboard (and Windows 10 b/c it's about time anyways). Now... I still cannot boot into windows, and the computer doesn't "Hang" at the diskdrive, but rather, just kinda... fades out. The lights for the fans are still on and running, the drives seems to still be spinning... but the screen just kinda fades away. So... I've said to Hell with it... and just was going to use a SATA to USB device (with my Laptop) to recover some important docs from my 2nd desktop HD. I plugged in my harddrive and its dynamic (duh) but also... invalid? I was able to use testdisk (which is a fantastic and free tool) to recover some of my important documents, but I found it odd what my 2nd harddrive that kept disappearing to be now invalid. Final question / issue? What could cause my secondary hardrive to become "invalid"? What could cause my primary HD OS from not being able to boot the OS? What would cause my whole system dying, when trying to boot a Windows disk? It seems to not be my motherboard since I replaced it, but I am now out of options. [link] [comments] |
