Host of weird issues on newly built PC.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 08:05 PM PST

So, I built my girlfriend a new PC for Christmas, specs are listed below. The problems we are having are as follows: random blue screens (ntoskrnl.exe), her two monitors cut off randomly for about two seconds, then come back on, and audio subtly every minute or so hiccups for a fraction of a second. I have built a half dozen computers in my time and never run into issues like this before, and I am at wits end. Suggestions?

Computer specs: AMD Ryzen 7 2700

    msi x370 gaming pro carbon

    EVEGA Nvidia 1070ti

16GB corsair ram (running way under spec in BIOS, note I have not changed anything in BIOS, its all left at default)

    Samsung EVO NvME 250GB (M.2)

    500Gb samsung Sata SSD

    550 Watt power supply

In the mean time, I am going to figure out how to upload my dump log here somewhere for the crashes. They happen roughly once every 2 days or so.

*EDIT: https://pastebin.com/3zCKjc33 For those asking about the dump log, I am terribly sorry it is not formattred very well, windows keeps blocking my attempts to access the file, so I used blue screen view. If needed I will screenshot that and upload it to imgur.

*EDIT 2: Uninstalling Corsair's iCue software seems to have stopped the screen flickering. Audio has seemingly been solved though windows by un-clicking "allow other programs to take control of this device". A hardlock did just occur, and pcpart picker says that a bios update is needed for my combo of processor and Mobo, so I may try to flash the motherboard.

    Slow Internet

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 08:32 PM PST

    Hello,

I am a first time poster so I apologize if this is in the wrong location.

I have recently moved into a new apartment and the internet is very slow. I asked my roommate if he is having the same issue and he isn't. We did an internet speedtest and his laptop is downloading at 50+mbps and 6mbps for upload, and mine is downloading at 4 mbps and upload of 40+mbps, and we ran the test within minutes of eachother.

I read some online articles for a quick fix and it said it may have something to do with Malware. I am pretty conservative with I download on my computer but I am running a quick check with that now.

Are there any other suggestions on what I should do? My roommate runs Ubuntu and I run Windows 10, while this may effect processing speeds, I don't think it should mess with download speeds. Would love some Pointers or good article references.

Trying to connect an old laptop SSD that has BitLocker encryption on it. I know what the password is and I have a SATA-to-USB connector. Is it possible to read from it?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 08:49 PM PST

When I connect it to my new laptop, it shows up in the Disk Management but I have no way of reading its contents or even getting to a point where I'm prompted to enter the BitLocker password.

Entire PC Freezes.. only when playing Monster Hunter: World

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 02:15 AM PST

Title, any other game it's fine as far as I know.. Witcher 3 etc. Temps checked, cpu was 60-75 during gameplay, GPU wasn't above (80, stops at 75, it's a Vega, so it's naturally hot). For reference, I built this PC on December 23rd.

    Laptop issue

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 03:55 AM PST

So my laptop is doing this thing where when I try to put in my pin it instantly spams 333333333333 by itself. When 4 numbers are entered it automatically tests if the pin is correct and obviously its not and now im locked out for an hour. I disconnected my external keyboard and disconnected the cable from my laptops internal keyboard but this worked to no avail. Something I should note is a week or two ago my bedroom window was left open during a heavy rain so my laptop suffered from a little water damage but this was remedied by a couple days of opening the laptop up and blowdrying it. If someone could please give me an idea as this laptop holds very important information and financially, right now is a horrible time to invest in a new one.

Looking to migrate Windows to another hard drive

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 09:41 PM PST

So I currently have two hard drives. The second I got after I built my PC, and is bigger and ever so slightly faster. I'd like to move it over. I've been using it to download games to mostly, but I'd rather just make it my main hard drive with the other being extra space if I need it.

There are plenty of guides for this, but I can't find a concise answer on the best tool to do this. Also, do I need to physically rearrange my hard drives inside the computer at all? And do I need to backup any info on my second hard drive, or wipe it before I use these tools?

Does anyone know what renigavsvc.exe is?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 09:55 PM PST

Hi guys, so I accidentally ran some malware, but luckily MalwareBytes seems to have gotten rid of most of the junk. I started checking the task manager processes in case something was missed and came across the aforementioned .exe file, which was edited the day that the malware ran. Does anyone know if that file is legitimate or if it's malicious? Thanks in advance.

    Galaxy S6 Intense Eye Pain

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 09:43 PM PST

Before I got a new phone, my galaxy S6 would randomly begin to severely hurt my eyes with a sharp pain and dizziness. Every time this happened, one of the front facing sensors was glowing red/violet and looking directly at it really hurt. My guess is this was some malfunction in the ir sensor since the top glass of my phone was slightly lifted due to a fall. Any ideas on what could've caused this because it happened multiple times and sure as hell wasn't healthy for my eyes. Even though the phone is gone I've been left curious about the issue and knowing what went wrong might save other users eyes as well.

I have two monitors: a normal 1920x1080 monitor and an ultrawide 2560x1080 monitor. I was just wondering if I connected my 2560x1080 monitor, just to borwse the web and watch videos while I play games, would that hinder a games performance if I was playing on the 1920x1080 monitor.

Computer Fails to Boot tried everything to no avail.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 06:32 PM PST

I recently moved my computer into my new apartment. I built it myself and have been using it for over a year. Relatively high end gaming PC. 1080 TI and Ryzen 1600. Everything I've had runs great until after I moved. Don't know if it got damaged in transit but I didn't move far and the computer should be pretty sturdy. I'll run through everything I've tried so far.

I starting trying everything in a different guide nothing I did fixed the issue. Didn't start documenting what I did till halfway though. Started by trying safe mode. Didn't work. Here's what I did after the first half hour when I started documenting my issues:

    1. Booting my computer normally the MSI boot menu appears. Goes to Preparing Automatic System repair. Automatic Repair pops up "Your PC did not shut down correctly". I press restart.

    2. Restarting. It asks if I would like to skip disk checking. I don't press anything and it goes to disk checking. Checking D: drive. Computer black screen. Hold down power to shut down because it's frozen on black screen.

    3. Restarting MSI boot menu. Preparing Automatic Repair. Automatic Repair screen. I try restart again.

    4. Restarting. Disk checking. Skip disk checking this time. Critical process died error screen.

    5. Restarting. Automatic Repair. I try advanced options this time. Press Exit and continue to Windows 10.

    6. Restarting it asks if I want to skip disk checking. I don't press anything. Error Memory Management.

    7. Restarting. No MSI boot menu. Black screen. Hold power 5s to restart.

    8. Booting. MSI boot menu. Preparing Automatic Repair. Advanced options. Computer is still on, black screen.

    9. Restarts on its own. Kernel security check failure.

    10. Restarts on it's own. Black Screen.

    11. Restarting manually. Preparing Automatic Repair. Advanced Options. Troubleshoot. Reset this PC. Keep my files. There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made. Cancel. Goes back to Advanced options. Troubleshoot. 2nd Advanced Options menu. More recovery options. Startup settings. Press restart.

    12. Restarting. Choose disable early launch. Anti-malware protection.

    13. Restarts. Scanning drive D: . Critical Process died.

    14. Restarts. Advanced Options. Troubleshoot. Advanced Options. Command Prompt. C: cd Windows\System32\LogFiles\Srt. SrtTrail.txt. nothing pops up. Try to exit command prompt. Can't use mouse anymore?

    15. Manually restart. Error Screen: System ran into a problem that it couldn't handle.

    16. Restarts. Black Screen.

    17. Manually restart. Automatic Repair. Advanced Options. Troubleshoot. Advanced Options. Command prompt. Bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd. Total Identified Windows installations: 0. bootrec.exe /fixmbr. Operation completed successfully. bootrec.exe /fixboot. Access Denied. Leave command prompt. Troubleshoot. Advanced Options. Perform system restore. No restore points have been created. Cancel. Troubleshoot. Advanced Options. Startup repair. Startup repair couldn't repair your PC. Advanced Options. Troubleshoot. Advanced Options. Go back to a previous version. We ran into a problem and won't be able to take you back to a previous version. Couldn't get anywhere with system Image recovery either.

At this point I've followed every guide I can find and I'm out of ideas. What do I do?

It seems to be an issue with either the boot drive (C:) or (D:) the one that gets scanned when I've tried restarting. About to take this thing apart and check all the connections.

    Something's Wack With My GPU.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 12:42 AM PST

So I was casually playing some video games and all of a sudden 3/4 of my screens turn to snowflake. I don't know what is causing this but I know that it might be my GPU since my 4th monitor which is Red'd out is still fine and running off of a separate GPU. If anyone knows what might be causing this please let me know.

Computer blocking all https traffic. What's going on?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 12:40 AM PST

So I was visiting my mom and her Windows 7 computer is suddenly refusing to go to a lot of websites and she asks me for help.

My mom is a typical elderly computer user and regularly fucks up her computer in unimaginable ways so I really had no clue what was up.

So after poking around, what I deduced is that it's refusing to go to any https sites and is defaulting to http and sites like gmail aren't allowing that or giving warnings.

    Other things I checked are:

    1. It's happening on all browsers, so it's system wide and not browser specific.

    2. It's not happening on other devices/ computers so it's not an issue with the ISP or the router.

    3. I downloaded malwarebytes and ran it and cleared out whatever it found. Didn't solve the issue.

    4. I checked the windows firewall settings but I don't think it is even turned on. I'm not really familiar with it though so I might have to dig here again.

    5. Checked the date/time.

Any ideas what has happened and how I can fix it?

    EDIT: SOLVED

Someone/something had changed the DNS servers or the DNS servers that were in there stopped working for whatever reason. I changed the DNS to the Google DNS and voilà, everything started working.

Oki C351dn Printer - When printing a document with several images, some are getting corrupted

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 04:21 AM PST

I have an Oki C531dn printer. It works fine in every respect except that when I print a document with several images in it, some of the images are getting corrupted. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be that it is running out of memory?

GPU randomly died on me yesterday.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 04:05 AM PST

Ive had a 960 2GD5 from MSI for 2 years and its had no problems with stuttering or stuff like that, i clean my pc often and have changed the Thermal paste to Grizzly (not Liquid metal). But yesterday while playing GTA 5 which never has any problems, constant 72 fps (otherwise the map screen can lag) and it just died, screens turned black and the PC turned off, Tried unplugging the power and stuff but nothing worked, i then took everything out and tried the PSU with a Paper clip (Green-Black connection) and it worked, So i tried without the GPU and it booted and all the fans worked. Looking at the 960 i can see any damage, no Overheating. So... did ít just die of age? Is this normal.

I can't get windows to start, it just keeps saying automatic repair could repair your computer. I've set it to boot from USB but nothing I've tried works.

    I think I made it worse :(

Laptop died, any ideas why ?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 03:57 AM PST

Ok so, first just some facts and stuff to make things easier...

Model is Acer E15, around 3 years old, used only for internet browsing and occasional gaming when i'm travelling..

HW: Core i5 6300HQ Nvidia GT940M 8GB of RAM 240GB Kingston SSD bought a month ago to make it a bit faster after those 3 years.. Win 10 Home

All things that were on were just Steam, Warframe and Nvidia's GeForce Experience.. was playing and went for food to the kitchen.. after returning after like 5 mins.. it was off and now it doesn't react to anything.. not even BIOS will run.. also just for info.. temps were all okay.. all under 70°C.. the LED indicators for battery and charging aren't lit up even when plugged in...

    Things i tried (nothing worked):

Tried unplugging the battery from MB and running just with the charger

    Changed HDDs

Checked the whole MB if any headers somehow unplugged.. everything is fine

Edit: tried another charger, didn't work either..

Don't know what to do next so i'm asking for possible help here before turning it in for repair..
