Why is it that Google still doesn't have a great integrated ecosystem?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 02:00 PM PST

While this is the only example I can think of right now, but, why in the world is Google not able to include their own music service into alarms, like Google play music? Here is what it looks like right now. Alarm Android is supposed to be about flexibility, not about forcing a single service for use. You would expect that if it were a single service, at least it would be their own, it's as if they don't actually want you to be part of Google.

I didn't update the app when the new Dev changed the service to their own. It was working until this morning when the app no longer updates. This is what I see when updating the app.

Size comparison of apples 5 watt charger and ankors new 30 watt power atom PD

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:19 PM PST

I was waiting to buy the Anker power atom pd since I first heard about it near the end of last year. I kept checking and even emailed Anker about it then they said it will be delayed to early 2019.

I would check every few days to see if it was available for purchase until I got lucky on Jan 12 and saw that I could pre order it from amazon and that it would be delivered late January but then the ship date got moved to Jan 16 and that's when I got it.

I use it to fast charge my iPhone XS Max and it charges amazingly fast. I haven't timed it to see how fast it charged but it's a shit load faster than the 5 watt one that comes with the iPhone. I have to use an Apple lighting to usb c cable because that's the only way to get fast charging on iPhone, you can use a 3rd party power adopter but it has to be an Apple cable until March, that's when 3rd parties will start selling MFI usb c-lighting cables.

Here it is next to apples 5 watt charger

Would you be happy if Google restricted background clipboard access ONLY to System apps with Android Q?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:17 AM PST

    Dear Android community,

Recently, I read a post on xda-developers detailing upcoming changes in Android Q: https://www.xda-developers.com/android-q-block-background-clipboard-external-storage-permissions-downgrading-apps/#comment-4315277754

Google has already taken valuable permissions away from us, preventing useful functionality such as call recording, call logging and SMS access. Now, it seems they are going to prevent background clipboard access.

I understand that accessing the clipboard from the background can seem like a privacy threat, and for that, I agree with Google adding a permission for this capability. What I do not agree with is the protection level of this permission being "signature", which means that only Google and OEMs will be allowed to use it.

This will kill all clipboard apps unless made by Google, Samsung, LG e.t.c

Greater security is always desired, but I see no reason to take the choice away from us. I'm already upset about losing ACR on Android Pie. It seems that Google's oppression is never-ending, because this constant revocation of useful features is not what I want as an Android user, and I think many of you here will feel the same way.

As a developer, I do have personal interest in background clipboard access, and find it incredibly useful in my day to day life. I would be very upset if this were to be removed from third-party apps with Android Q. I feel that the direction Google is taking, is pushing us towards a more iOS-like ecosystem, where the user has no freedom and does what Apple tells them to do. I think that what Google is doing requires push-back from the userbase, and I hope that together, that is what we can achieve.

So if you would like to feed back on this, someone has already made a feedback post on the Google issue tracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/123461156

Please open the link, and star the issue and perhaps leave a comment, so that we can hopefully bring Google back to the side of reason. If you are having difficulty finding the "star" button, please see this screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/dTmrkoZ
