How is your Mi Mix 3 holding up?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:32 AM PST

Hi! I will probably buy the Mi Mix 3 in the following weeks as birthday gift to myself ;-)

But before doing so, I would love some feedback from the current Mi Mix 3 users. Are you enjoying it? How's the slide mechanism hold up? And what about battery life?

Please feel free to add anything you find necessary. And thank you in advance for your kindness =)

    Problems installing TWRP on Mix2s

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:07 PM PST

Hi, after flashing TWRP when I restart, the stock recovery overrides TWRP.

If I press and the buttons, it boot loop in fastboot. This continued till I release the buttons and it boots normally.

If I use fastboot boot <recovery.img>, I get a blank screen.

    Help?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:15 PM PST

I've just tried putting my old SD card into this phone but it's telling me that it needs to be formatted before use... The old phone was on Android 6.0.1, and it WASN'T used as internal storage.

Why am I been force to format the SD card?

    Appreciate any information, Thanks.

Owner of a Mi A1, wanting to change to a new phone. Opinions?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 02:48 PM PST

I have an Mi A1 with a broken screen and it's terrible.

I'm looking at the Poco F1 or the Mi A2 Lite.

On what should I go? Social media and photography are my most used on a phone.

What would you like to see improved on the Mi Notebook Pro Gen 3?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 04:39 PM PST

Hi there everybody. I've been using my OG Mi Notebook Pro for over a year now and I gotta say, It really hasn't aged at all. While there are new processors from Intel now, there aren't really suited for this price point, and Nvidia still hasn't released a successor to the MX150. The battery is going strong at ~50 watthours, and since the thing is built like a tank, there's close to no physical damage. But I really have some stuff in mind that can make the new gen notebooks a lot better IMO. They are down below and I'd love to see what you guys would like for the successor.

    1. Better build quality. They've been stepping up their games with phones lately (the Mi 8 really feels a lot better than the 6) and they can touch up the build with a more MacBook-esque material (that means it's going to be softer but more premium feeling. They are more malleable but its really not that much.).
    2. New-ish design. The notebook is stunning, but there are some improvements to be made since Huawei has been killing it here. Slimmer bezels and thinner body is a must for the next gen. While they are re-doing the design, they can fix the little things like the hinge misalignment and screen bevel. Also, the keyboard and trackpad can get a design overhaul but more on that a little later.
    3. Better screens. Huawei showed that "budget" premium devices (whatever that means anyway) can get away with quality screens. While I don't think Xiaomi should go with a 3:2 aspect ratio (although I love it, it would make way for design and form factor adjustment. Maybe 16:10, but not 3:2.) the resolution needs to have an upgrade option. There must be a 4K display option for the more expensive spec and the addition of touchscreens on both the i5 and i7 models would be very nice.
    4. A 13" "Pro" version. This already kinda exists, but Xiaomi can really streamline things by going the Macbook way and having both the more advanced 13" and 15.6" devices called "Pro". Why I'm mentioning this is because I think there's potential for the 13" notebook that nobody really uses.
    5. Better keyboard, trackpad and fingerprint sensor. The keyboard is really good on this one, but following the recent trends, I think they should go slim on the travel distance for once. Not too crazy like the MacBooks. I think somewhere between 1.1 and 1.3mms of travel would be perfect with the same / more tactile mechanism. This would be an improvement. However, the trackpad needs some more urgent fixes. Once would be leveling it up with the body, This causes it to go deeper over time and be uneven between the right and the left sides. Second, a grippier glass like the ones on the Surface series would help this type of trackpad a lot. Third, making it just slightly bigger to make it easy for large thumbs to use the top section. The keyboard could be moved a bit up for this too. Finally, the fingerprint sensor has to be moved to the power button. I suggest a MacBook Pro/Air like solution but Huawei's is fine too I guess. The sensor could also be replaced because it literally works 30% of the time. I cleaned it, I installed drivers, I reinstalled Windows; nothing works. (Also also the keyboard backlight needs a switch instead of a timer.)
    6. Some misc stuff such as better webcam, speakers, fan speed management, cooling for GPU. Also, the no-branded look and the extra M.2 slot would be welcomed to remain present.
    7. I would suggest the specs to be like:
Model CPU GPU RAM STORAGE SCREEN BATTERY Port Selection Price
    13" i5 i5, whatever's low power Intel HD Integrated Graphics 8GB RAM 256GB PCI-E SSD 1080p Touchscreen 60Wh 2x USB-C (One of them 3.1 and one of them Thunderbolt 3), HDMI 2.0, 1x USB-A, SD Card reader 899 USD
    13" i7 i7, whatever's low power Bundled Vega GPU (intel NUC style) or MX250(?) 16GB RAM 512GB PCI-E SSD 1080p Touchscreen 60Wh 2x USB-C (Both of them Thunderbolt 3), HDMI 2.0, 1x USB-A, SD Card reader 1099 USD
15" i5 i5, whatever's low power Bundled Vega GPU (intel NUC style) or MX250(?) 8GB RAM 256GB PCI-E SSD 1080p Touchscreen 75Wh (there really is room there) 3x USB-C (Two of them 3.1 and one of them Thunderbolt 3), HDMI 2.0, 2x USB-A, SD Card reader 999 USD
    15" i7/i9 i7/i9, the 6 core stuff (the 8750H for now but might get a refresh by then) Lowest end MAX-Q Design Turing GPU 16 / 32 GB RAM 512GB PCI-E SSD 4K Touchscreen 75Wh 3x USB-C (All them Thunderbolt 3), HDMI 2.0, 2x USB-A, SD Card reader 1299 USD (probably more)

Now that I've written my perfect Chinese laptop fantasy, let's hear it from you how these are impossible within the R&D budget for Xiaomi's Notebook department.

Mi Mix 3 Mobile Network Issues

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 02:08 PM PST

    Hi Reddit,

So I got the Mi Mix 3 recently and I am unable to use my mobile internet. It connects and has 'H' as the displayed signal but doesn't actually give internet access. It seems I need to change WAP settings but they are greyed out(Vodafone UK). I used to be on iPhone so a new SIM might be all I need. Am I being accurate in my analysis? Or will I need to root and change the settings by force somehow?

First week of Android so I hope it's not too stupid a question!

    Pocophone F1 - can't verify.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:14 PM PST

Hey! Maybe someone could help me. I got my pocophone today. (Germany. Got the Global Version.) I'm trying to update but somehow it doesn't let me. The phone shows me that the 10.0.4.0.OEJMIFH update is available. When downloading it just cuts it at some point. Mostly at 95%. Or it tells me it can't verify it. I then tried to manually download the newest Poco Rom. V10.2.2.0.PEJMIXM. But when trying to update that manually through the updater app, it still tells me that i can't verify. "Sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed." Any solutions?

Case recommendations for the Mix 3

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:33 AM PST

Hi, I'm looking for a case for my new Mix 3 that would be very much like the included case, just sturdier because the stock one feels super flimsy and moves around a bit on the phone.

I'm trying to find something unassuming and minimal that doesn't cover up the notification led like some of the cases do. A grippy material would also be great.

    Thanks in advance!

Is it safe to flash a custom ROM on anti rollback enabled devices?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:14 PM PST

So here's the thing, I've read about the anti-rollback thing and I realized that there's really nothing I can do to disable it, so I had to get around with it. I installed TWRP successfully on my anti rollback enabled Redmi Note 5 (whyred) BUT I'm really concerned about bricking my device, and on top of that, there is no Xiaomi services store (or whatever is it called) in my country, so I needed to check wether is it safe or not. Please help :) thanks!

Redmi 5 Plus blinking white light on charge, not turning on

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:55 AM PST

I'm kind of in a panic because my phone just died on me for no reason. I was listening to music, then the phone turns off by itself and refuses to turn back on. When I plug it in the charging/notification light blinks white, but the phone refuses to turn on. Tried to connect it to my pc but it doesn't recognize the device. I got it to turn on for a second earlier, but when i stuck the headphones back into the jack it died immediately...

I just had my screen replaced (with a Xiaomi branded LCD) today at a random (but trustworthy, according to Google reviews) phone repair shop. Could a faulty screen replacement have done this to my phone? I haven't rooted the phone or done anything else to alter the device.

Help me choose please: Mi 8 Lite or Mi A2?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 12:53 PM PST

Hey guys, time's come to buy a new phone and I'm on a serious budget, and I've narrowed it down to these two.

For me of course the choice is mainly between MIUI and stock Android. All the customisation options and clever trick of MIUI 10 really appeal to me and I'm very much not a tech user, so I like not having to install a lot of apps for photos, music and stuff. However, I do love snappiness on a phone and I've heard stock is so much snappier. How true is that?

Also, my current phone (Huawei P smart, first version) has a terrible camera and I'd love to be able to make usable pics. Especially the front cam as it's mostly gonna be selfies anyway.

Would love to hear some opinions/experiences on this from you guys! Thanks in advance :)

Whats the Pros and Cons of buying a Chinese Rom instead of waiting for Global?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 12:50 PM PST

I'm currently eying the Note 7 and Note 7 Pro and see that the "Mi 'Global' Store" in AliExpress is selling it for a decent price; it might even be cheaper due to my country's tax import. I was wondering what are the downsides to this? Can I just install Global ROM afterwards? Or will it be less stable over a global-bought one?

From the top of my head: Cons: -Chinese Bloatware (is this fixable?) -No warranty (though not much of a worry for me, my phone is currently an LG V20 import) -Potential shipping damage

Pros: You can get it (much) earlier

Which Xiaomi is best deal right now

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:13 AM PST

Question is simple, I wanna buy Xiaomi ive used note 4 for a year and its awesome but I want to upgrade. I almost bought Mi A2 but Ive read on xda and here that people are having some kind of emmc memory problems. So I got kinda scared and gave up. My second candidate is Mi 8 lite. But again A2 is stronger on paper. Give me some suggestions in that price range. Note 6 pro is also good but kinda dumb to buy now when note 7 came out. Btw I would buy note 7 but wont be available in my country soon.

Quick question on a dual-SIM issue (on the Poco F1 currently on 10.2.2)

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:23 AM PST

If I am in a call on SIM1 and somebody else is calling me on SIM1 I can see the 2nd call and the caller also gets a notification if he is on the same network or some busy signal after some time if not.

However if I am in a call on SIM1 and somebody else is calling me on SIM2 there is no info on my side and the caller gets a message that I am not in the network or the phone is turned off. That is normally expected for dual-SIM dual-standby but all such dual-SIM phones that I have seen can (as long as you let them know the numbers of the 2 SIMs and you activate a specific option) do a small trick - right before you get into the 1st call (SIM1 above) the phone sets call forwarding from SIM2 to SIM1 and that way you get a call waiting when somebody else calls on SIM2 and he gets a busy signal or similar. At the end of the call any call forwarding added by the phone is of course removed.

The question is of course this - does Poco F1 has such an option and how do I activate it?!

I want to root my Redmi 5 Plus.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:39 AM PST

I've had my Redmi 5 Plus 64/4 for a while now and was thinking about rooting it. What's the best way of doing it? Is there anything that I should do before/after i root it? I've wanted to root my phone for a while but it seemed like a bit of a hassle. Any links to articles or YouTube videos on how to do so are appreciated.
