    AirDrop activates XBox

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 06:27 PM PST

First off. I'm an IT Director and a total geek. I noticed that my Xbox powers on by itself whenever I initiate an AirDrop from my MacBook to my iPhone. I get it. Apple...Windows.."How Sway!!?" I would have shrugged this off if someone told me they've experience this, but I'm actually able to replicate it! Anyone else ever experience this?

iPhone “Other” Storage taking up 60% of space

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 08:33 PM PST

I've tried deleting everything, hard resetting the phone, and even doing a factory restore on it to see if I can get rid of this bug that keeps eating storage, but it just keeps coming back. Any thoughts? I have an iPhone 6s with iOS 11.3.1 at the moment and I would very much prefer to NOT update it after seeing my friends' phones become obsolete. Thank you!

How does your business manage their applications?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 08:44 PM PST

    Hello,

I work at a mid-size enterprise, and I look after ALL of their applications. My predecessor used an excel spreadsheet, drowned in VBA, to produce an 'application matrix' of the applications we have on-site. The creation is automated, it's accurate as long as it's manually updated, and you can see what application depends, or partly depends, on what infrastructure.

However, it really is archaic, and I refuse to believe it's the best way to catalog business applications. Does anyone out there use software or other means to catalog/track their business applications?

e.g. i'm thinking software like Dynatrace, although, not for only web applications.

DPC Latency Issues causing audio and video crackling and stuttering. Please help me, I am desperate

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:39 AM PST

    Hello Friends

I have been having this issue for over a year, and it got much much worse a few days. It's extremely frustrating, and it is hindering my ability to study. I have searched and searched through more forum threads and YouTube videos looking for a solution, and I have not found anything at all that has helped me. Please assist me, I would be immensely grateful.

    What I've tried so far

    • reset Windows (choosing keeping my files option) - lags still present after this step.
    • upgraded RAM
    • updated BIOS to the latest version
    • Updated NVIDIA Drivers
    • installed audio and network drivers from motherboard manufacturer's web page
    • Upgraded Chipset drivers from AMD website, and upgraded my SSD's firmware
    • Enabled the optimal performance Power mode in the Nvidia control panel
    • Enabled Ryzen Balanced Power plan in Windows Power settings
    • Removed the Toshiba Hard Drive from my system
    • Stopped power management for my network device.
    • I booted the PC into Safe Mode with Networking - the issue still persisted.

Someone said I should disable HPET, but I could not find this option in my BIOS settings.

This is the link to my computer specifications from Speccy: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/A...2Hq5YzTjisz0jl

This is a Google Drive link to a zip file containing DxDiag text file, trace.etl file and msinfo32 file that a PC technician requested in order to assist me with the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jG8twOjPtTiq4hubh7EqKpj69I9HBKiI/view?usp=sharing

This is a screenshot of Latency Monitor, showing the issue: https://imgur.com/a/YyCfaPJ

Computer won't boot, just a black screen

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 09:40 PM PST

After installing a new motherboard, RAM, and CPU, the computer won't boot. When the power button is pressed, the pc starts up showing nothing on the monitors and giving no start up beeps. After about 30 seconds it restarts to the same black screen, 30 seconds later it restarts. No bios menu or boot screen, just solid black nothingness.

    Specs.
    Asrock B360 Pro Motherboard.
    Intel core i58400 CPU.
    Corsair Vengenace 2x8 (16gb) DDR4 3000MHz RAM.
    GTX1060 Graphics Card.
    Windows 7.

I haven't tested any ideas, as it is close to midnight here and after finishing the build so late and then it not starting, I just lost all my energy, I came here to see if anyone had any ideas.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Black screen at boot

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:36 AM PST

I assembled my new PC yesterday, with the main components being:

    • Ryzen 5 2600x

    • Gigabyte rtx2060

    • MSI B450 Tomahawk

    • Samsung Pro 950 SSD

    • Barracuda Seagate HDD

I installed windows on the Samsung SSD and it booted successfully. I decided to update drivers for the GPU (these were up to date), CPU and motherboard. After installing these drivers I did a restart of the computer and got a blue screen of death with the error message:

    inaccessible boot drive.

Tried resetting windows by inserting the windows USB key, but failed everytime where it stated: unable to reset.

I then booted in the BiOS and saw that the SSD was not listed anymore. Figuring that this was the issue for the inaccessible boot device I changed the SATA operation mode from AHCI to raid.

This brings me to the current problem; after restarting the only thing I get is a black screen with nothing. I am unable to load up in the BiOS. I even removed the battery of the motherboard to trigger factory reset, but this was also uneventful.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to proceed and get me to enjoy my new computer?

Can't turn off Fn lock on external keyboard

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:23 AM PST

I would like to turn off the Fn lock on my Perixx Periboard-410 model external keyboard for desktop computer so I don't have to press both Fn+F3 to say pause music.

I have tried without any success the following:

    Fn+Esc

    Fn+Capslock

    Fn+Numlock (using on screen keyboard)

Looking in BIOS settings to disable function keys, but not there since I'm guessing its and external issues.

Any other suggestions would be great. A picture of the keyboard is in the comments.

RAM Isn't Showing At Advertised Frequency When Enabling XMP in BIOs.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 08:04 PM PST

This has been a pain in my thigh ever since I decided to go into my Bios and try to overclock stuff. I tried to figure it out by myself, but I've just decided to post here to seek help. To start off, the RAM that I have is 32GBs (2 x 16GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3200, and the Motherboard I have is the Asus Maximus IX Hero, you can see my build for reference if you need to here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zFs9XP.

When I go into my BIOs and enable XMP under AI Overclock Tuner, the XMP category that pops up doesn't show my RAM as the advertised frequency as you can see here: https://imgur.com/a/VieE1y1. Does anyone know why this is? If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate if you could help.

    Thank you,

    Difference Between 2.4 and 5 Ghz Dual-Bands?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 09:55 PM PST

I did a bit of research myself (2.4 is slower but has better coverage, and 5 has faster speeds but weaker range).

But I don't really know how that applies to me. I live in a house with my family (mother, brother, and me). We have a PS4 and two phones connected to the WiFi. And I use a Billion Dual-Band router with Fibre (FTTP) internet.

So I'm thinking of opting for 5, but I'm not sure if that means the coverage will drop out once I walk into another room. Could anyone advise me based on their own personal experience?

ASUS laptop touchpad buttons not working

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 01:36 AM PST

Decided to make a post since I can't figure this out and Google seems useless.

So the touchpad works perfectly fine except when I try to use the "buttons" to left and right click they do nothing. I can move the cursor, tap to click, double tap to right click, but the buttons do not work.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ASUS touchpad driver and that resulted in nothing. I also tried other touchpad drivers with no luck as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

High ping from my laptop to any wireless network

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 01:29 AM PST

This is my first time posting here as I have literally tried everything and this problem is still bugging me out to the limits, at this point, I am really desperate for help.

In abstract, pinging my default gateway (my router or any wireless network) takes a lot of time, only with wireless and only in my laptop, other devices are fixed to <=1ms while my laptop is normally 4 to 10ms with spikes to over ~1000ms each 15seconds or so, even times out sometimes.

    ping 192.168.1.1 -t --> https://i.stack.imgur.com/bqt4f.png

It has come to my realization that this is probably a software issue, as I had a similar problem with an old laptop of mine and it was because I installed some Adblock software that messes with your DNS and your wireless adapter configurations.

    What I have tried:

    • Uninstalling/Installing drivers and devices
    • Running windows with only important services
    • Uninstalling Winpcap/Npcap
    • Restoring to a week old restore point (At that time everything was working fine)
    • Disabling power saving mode
    • Disabling my AV
    • Running some dns flush and ip renew commands etc
    • Switching to 5GHz 801n and switching channels, even though the problem isn't router-related

What I'll be doing next is to boot into some live unix os to see if I have a failing device or it is really a software problem. Ill update this as soon as I do so.

    Extra Information:

    • OS: Windows 10 latest update
    • Wireless Adapter: Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC

    Water damaged Razer blade pro

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 05:51 PM PST

Spilled glass of water over keyboard, turned off and disconnected from power and cleaned up water, let water drain a bit and then turned back on after about 10 minutes. Worked for about 5 minutes but then froze and I manually turned off and didn't turn on again. Did research on what to do and found out I shouldn't have turned it on at all and now leaving pc. However does the freezing and not turning back on mean my laptop is dead? Can it be fixed?

HDD Showing on BIOS and Device Manager but the only place it shows in Disk Management is in my SSD drive's Hardware Properties

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 08:20 PM PST

    2133MHz RAM in a 2400MHz motherboard?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 01:16 AM PST

Would 2133MHz RAM in a compatible 2400MHz motherboard cause any issues, or do I need a new graphics card?

Any game I play with 3d graphics will consistently hang/crash inconsistently - which is to say, they will nearly always hang but not always at a predictable time.

I occasionally get messages on crash from different games saying the 3d driver has stopped working.

I have 2 possible suspects: My card or my RAM. Here are my specs:

    • Motherboard: Prime B350-Plus

    • RAM: 8G DDR4 2133MHz

    • GPU: GTX 1060 6GB onboard RAM

The reason I suspect my RAM is because the board supports 2133/2400MHz RAM and I have got 2133 in there. It sounds foolish now I type it out, but it was a mistake when I made the original purchase and I have been kicking myself since.

The reason I suspect my card is because of: a) the error messages; and b) my son dropped my case heavily when I was putting my pc together and I have always had these errors.

I do have the latest drivers for my card.

PC repeated Crash/Freeze/BSOD multiple times a day

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 07:45 PM PST

Basically something is wrong with my pc, every once in awhile it will start having issues and crash/freeze/bsod, typically multiple times a day when it does it.

By crashing, I mean the computer will still be running, but the monitor shows a black screen, and will say it has no connection to the computer. I have to reset it by holding down the power button.

Freezing meaning the monitor still shows the screen (frozen), but I cannot interact with anything, audio stops playing, and keyboard input does nothing.

And the BSOD speaks for itself.

I took some notes on what happened yesterday and today:

    Yesterday:

    • 11:54 BSOD - System service exception, What Failed: nvlddmkm.sys (auto restarted)
    • 12:33 Stop Code: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (had to manually restart it)
    • 1:14 Freeze. Firefox + PDF via Microsoft edge open.
    • 1:19 Freeze, same as before
    • Waited till 3 to turn back on, idled till around nine.
    • 9:46 Freeze, same situation but with VRV playing
    • 10:52 same situation as before
    • 11:21 same situation, crash
    • 12:09 Same situation, freeze

    Today:

    • 1:36 today: Freeze with firefox and youtube open
    • 10:00 Freeze after being away for the day, worth noting I had the same things open and Chkdsk running since around 2:00 and it didn't freeze until I got back and starting copying the reports to word.
    • 10:22 & 10:24 & 10:27 Freeze while writing this

I built this computer myself, costs about 1.5k. All the drivers and microsoft 10 should be updated completely. Here are the specs.

Here is a link to all the chksdk reports. I don't think this is the issue since i just replaced my HDD and got a new SSD with a reinstall of windows, and it was happening before this too. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pCs93vco0Wn0aw_heh7ghfCkU35YsIW3/view?usp=sharing

Thanks for any help, I am having a lot of trouble working like this.

Edit: I forgot to say this, for some reason it seems to do this the most on simple things like browser, pdf, word, or video streaming. I can play a taxing game like warframe or the witcher 3 or something and never crash, but it will occasionally do it on simpler games like sidescrollers or 2d games like welcome to the gungeon.

Looking to create my own basic website - need some help

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:25 AM PST

    Hey everyone

I'm trying to create my own website that needs to serve as my portfolio basically for various projects. I don't want to spend too much money on letting someone else make the website though. However, there are tons of programs that claim to be the next best thing to create your own website, like Weebly. I have no knowledge of programming my own website in HTML and CSS, so I need to depend on software. There are some things that I'm looking for though:

    1. The website needs to look professional without any ads.
    2. I don't need any e-commerce features on my website, just information.

What's the best way to go about this?

What exactly does "system image" make a backup of in windows?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2019 08:49 PM PST

Is the system image backup (found in control panel) a 1 to 1 direct copy of my current drive? or is it only a limited backup? I have never used it but my HDD is dying and I would really like to pick back up just as I left off but with a new drive. Not sure if making a system image will do the trick or is there a more ideal way to clone my current HDD

Graphics card wont switch on when fully connected. But can switch on when partially connected.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:18 AM PST

Installing new power supply to replace old one. Whole thing worked fine for 2 min, then stopped working and powered down. After some fiddling, I realized the problem lies with connecting graphics card to power. If I only do the 6pin (graphics card had 1 6pin slot and 1 8pin slot) connection to the power, the system switches on okay, but screen just asks me to power down and connect PCIe cable to graphics card. If I plug in the 8 pin, then the system won't switch on, and I hear a click at the power supply.

Bit stumped. Don't get why it's working fine one moment then just stopped working. Please help.

I’m having issues with my bluetooth headphones

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:16 AM PST

Specifically, Bluephonic Deep Bass X headphones. They were working fine until just a few minutes ago, when they disconnected randomly. Now they are inconsistent, most of the time, the power button won't work and they won't turn on, but sometimes they will. If it does power on, it connects to my phone as it normally would, but after 7 seconds or so, or if I try to play anything with sound, they disconnect and shut off again. It's fully charged. I would try to do a factory reset, but to my knowledge this model requires you to hold the power button for ~10 seconds, and seeing as the power button really doesn't work, idk if that'll work. They're relatively cheap, only about $25 to my recollection, so maybe i'll just have to accept their death, although I'd really hate to fork out more money for a new pair of headphones.

Some recent update has broken Win10 for my PC and it won't boot, it's refusing all attempts at troubleshooting

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 12:25 AM PST

Title says it all, I don't know what happened as it worked fine last night but the PC initially BSOD-ed with the "BAD SYSTEM CONFIG" error, I have made multiple attempts at fixing it but nothing seems to respond, the system refuses to diagnose issues, it refuses to rollback to previous versions and, even when I download a flash drive copy it still refuses to transfer or uninstall data.

When I tried to copy the boot data as suggested on a previous reddit thread it switched from the BSOD glitch to the "infinite automatic repair" glitch and lastly, when I try and load in the command prompt, it refuses to cd to any source except either to a mysterious X:\win\syn32 if directly booted or to an X:\Source area if I try and boot from the flash drive

I am completely bewildered on how to fix the problem and I need it fixed ASAP for work

All it suggests is a complete reset which I am absolutely not doing
