Mi 8 has sucky battery life

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 04:17 PM PST

edit: im gonna return my current one (since it's blue and i just don't like it), but also since some are saying it might be faulty. hopefully the next one won't be.

i got my Mi 8 2 days ago, and i switched from the Mate 10 (running Treble RROS, NOT EMUI) . now, the Mi 8, with everything good in it, still has terrible battery life compared to my Mate 10.

it drains rather quickly from just a little screen on time, and when in stand by, it drains twice as fast as the Mate. isn't it supposed to be that OLEDs are less battery draining? im currently running HavocOS on it right now, and have the all black OLED theme on, and still, drains like crazy. it's making me wonder what would happen if i turned it off.

i still have 13 days left on my return window, so I'll test it some more, but the battery isn't helping its case for staying (nor that they sent me the blue variant instead of the black, which is what i ordered, but that's not Xiaomi's fault lol)

edit: just realized i lost 4% while writing this thing, that didn't take me more than 10 minutes.

I cant decide between MiA2 or Redmi 6 Plus HELP

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:59 PM PST

Hey I currently have a Google phone Nexus 6p ( Width 77.8 mm Weight 178grams Height 159 mm) and it's quite big and kinda heavy. I drop it almost everyday just because it's way to big for me to comfortably get a grab of it. It's a old phone by now and I want to switch to the Xiaomi brand but it can't decide between the Mia2 or the redminote 6 pro.

The thing that is advantage for the Mia2 is that I have the USB c chargers of the Nexus and some adapters I use for school. But the downside is that I have never used a phone with no earphone Jack and IDK if it would be a big setback with that or with speakers and stuff along the way ( the Mia 2 has the adaptor btw).

I wanted a new phone that was just slimmer and not so heavy but I got this 2 great phones but I can't decide if go with the slimmer and heavier redminote 6 pro that has the Jack or with the 2 years of updates and a less heavy phone but slightly wider and taller MiA2

I've been using Google Nexus for 2 years now I don't have a lot of experience with new phone please help.

Memory management again, and MIUI 10

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:01 AM PST

    Hello.

So MIUI 10 on Pocophone F1 removes the handy-dandy "Memory Optimization" option from Developer Options. What now?

One of the messaging apps I use (Couple, yes it's bad but I like it) never notifies me of messages unless it's currently open on the screen or has (very recently) been open. So far I've turned off MIUI Optimization, unrestricted it in battery saver, locked it in the recent apps list, allowed it to auto-start, put it in the cleaner exceptions and allowed it to use data in the background on Wi-Fi and mobile. Still doesn't work.

Poking around in Developer Options, the app is still "running" (as is its service), so maybe it's not being killed and it's just not getting data. I don't know. Related, when I open Facebook Messenger it seems to redraw the window and reconnect but it at least seems to notify me.

I don't have this problem with Couple on any other Android devices so my first thought is to blame MIUI's memory management.

Is there anything else I can try besides flashing a custom ROM on my new phone? I'm also not particularly keen to factory reset back to MIUI 9, change the Memory Optimization and update again, but I will if I have to. I just wanted to check first if there's anything I've missed in MIUI 10 or if there's a secret way to get to the Memory Optimization menu through activities or ADB or somesuch.

    Thanks, all.

Help, Redmi 4x doesn‘t boot after installing newest update

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:07 PM PST

Miui 10 recently came out for the Redmi 4x. The official Forumpost told me to unlock my phone to be able to install it so I did. I needed to rstart the download a few time until it worked out. The programme on my computer told me it may take up to 15 minutes when booting it again for the first time. I left the fastboot mode by holding down the power button for like 15sec. The screen turned black and the mi logo showed up like every time when starting the phone. But it didnt went further. It is like this for like 10 hours now and I cant use my phone. I can switch to the fastboot mode by pressing the power butten and the volume down button but when leaving this mode its only the mi logo which shows up. Pls help me. I dont know what to do!

Where to get charger for Xiaomi notebook air 13.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 10:07 AM PST

Hi, my charger just broke and I need a new one FAST. I cannot find any xiomi chargers in Prague in Czech Republic. I know that my notebook can be charged with apple chargers but those are like super expensive so I'd rather buy reasonably priced one. Thanks a lot for any advice or tip.

Mi Pad (3) and Bamboo Tip

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 01:59 PM PST

Hey, I'm sorry if this isn't the best place to do this, but I'm looking for a stylus for my tablet but a decent one, not a shitty one and I was looking at reviews and found that the Bamboo Tip is pretty good, but the Mi Pad isn't in the compatibility list.

Has anyone tried the Bamboo Tip with the Mi Pad or any other xiaomi devices? How did it go?

MIUI 10 / Redmi Note 5 - Developer Options Crashing

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 01:52 PM PST

So I have this problem since I updated my Redmi Note 5 (currently 8.11.29 global beta, german language settings) for a few weeks now: every time I try to access the developer options from the settings menu (or an quick launch app), I get an error that the application has crashed. Now I already googled that and forums suggested

    a) switching from german to english due to a bad locale

    b) deleting the app data for the settings app and reactivating developer settings via tapping build version.

Both workarounds did not work for me though, developer options keep crashing - do you have any other suggestions what I could try to make them work again?

    thanks in advance :)

Any ideas on getting mobile data on the Redmi5plus (At&t)

So I've looked a lot, and I'm not quite finding what I need. I have cellular, can make calls and such, and I'm fine with using 3G, but I can't make that happen for some reason. Done all the APN stuff, and anything I search comes back with that. Wat do?

YouTube frequently crashes after opening a comment thread on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:36 AM PST

I'm not sure if it's the app or the phone, but whenever I open a comment thread, there's like a 60% chance that YouTube crashes. It crashes more often now after the new MIUI update. I asked my friend who uses Huawei and he told me that YouTube didn't crash for him at all. Please help!

    Bricked my Mi Mix 2S

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 11:57 PM PST

    Hello guys!

Yesterday I made a huge mistake and installed a treble ROM as a normal one. I loaded (not installed) TWRP on my phone, deleted system, data and cache, installed the ROM, deleted cache and dalvik and officially bricked it.

This is where I stand now:

    • The phone OEM is unlocked.
    • USB debugging is not activated and I can't activate it because I don't have access to the OS.
    • There is no recovery whastoever. Booting into recovery starts a bootloop.
    • Regular booting starts a bootloop.
    • The only thing that work is fastboot mode and it has its limitations.
      • Can't use MiFlash to install a new ROM (I left it working for 8 hours with no results).
      • It auto shuts down with the error message press any key to shutdown, which is the error it shows when USB debug is not activated.

Is there a way I can unbrick it? At this point I don't mind opening my phone and manipulating its insides becuase the warranty is already void by some company legal gibber-gabber.

I also have access to Windows, Ubuntu (Debian) and Antergos (Arch) on my computers, if anyone knows how to solve this from these operating systems. I don't mind installing other OS if it's necessary.
