Disk at 100%, but nothing really hitting disk in task manager. Posted: 03 Dec 2018 10:46 AM PST Hello, I don't browse the web aside from gmail, steamworks and one programming website I read about virtual goods in Steam in the past four months. I did install an add on from the Unity Store. I'm not sure how I could get a virus, as people call me the most locked down security minded guy they know. But I guess with Windows 10 installing stuff in the background, it might just be some random vulnerability. In addition to my disk at 100%, i noticed some dead pixels in my apps, that when I move the window around, the dead pixels move... so it isn't my monitor. Malwarebytes and Defender aren't picking up a virus, but even if it isn't a virus, 100% disk hitting is bad. I backed up my code on DVD-R and didn't use my zip drive in case it is a virus that changes embedded drivers on zip drives and corrupts all the data. So the right thing to do is to reinstall Windows, right? Should I want for a full scan of my harddrive to be done by Malwarebytes? It probably would take 15-30 more hours. Knowing what the culprit is could help me not get reinfected, but 30 hours is a bunch of time to not be developing. Been running this install since 3/18/18 when I reinstalled cuz of virus. A reinstall every 9 months isn't terrible. I just wish Windows didn't get hosed by viruses so easily. ,Jim [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Dec 2018 12:11 PM PST G'day mates. I have a windows computer with no speakers, therefore i use some earbuds. This issue started awhile ago, when i was playing a game on steam. I jerked to the side because my dog got saliva on me, and my earbuds popped out of the jack. The game froze and i am contently living with the issue. But now if my earbuds come out once, and i plug them back in, i have no sound until i restart my computer. This issue has been troubling me for a few weeks now. Any helpers are greatly appreciated! :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Dec 2018 01:21 PM PST 2 questions: 1 - I heard Windows 10 EDU can be installed on 2-3 pcs and will work on all. Is that true? 2 - Do I lose data if Windows crashes/locks on other pc or I can get to it? [link] [comments]
Why is there a difference between a character's unicode value and the ALT+number to input it? Posted: 03 Dec 2018 04:46 AM PST Here's an example. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Å "Å and Å¡ are at Unicode codepoints U+0160 and U+0161 (Alt 0138 and Alt 0154 for input)" I used to type this symbol using the alt code and then I forgot the code, so I looked it up and found the 0160 value, I tried it and it didn't work (it outputs this: ¡). I could've sworn that I used to be able to just type it with alt code. I let it pass for a whole year, during which I copy/pasted the symbol from a sheet. Just today I searched for it again and I found the quote above from wikipedia, I tried 0154 and it worked, it outputed Å¡. I'm so happy. But this also sucks, that confusion messed me up for a whole year. What's the deal with these different values? [link] [comments]

Can't restore Windows 7's Image Backups to a Different PC? Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:43 PM PST Hello. According to https://www.howtogeek.com/239312/how-to-restore-system-image-backups-on-windows-7-8-and-10/, it says you can't restore a back up to another PC. Is that true? Thank you for reading and I hope to get answers soon. :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:41 PM PST It's been two weeks since I finished a new build and I started to use the media creation took to install Windows 10 but every since time I try to install it, I get the error 0x8007025D. If anyone can help me fix this I will be forever grateful. I've looked up solutions on the internet and I've visited literally every site and tried every solution I could find and still no fix. Here are just a few solutions I've tried: -memory check (my memory is fine) -use a newer updated media creation tool -installing ISO directly into USB using Rufus -Trying a different USB -trying a different HDD/SSD I really don't want to have to buy a new copy of Windows 10 because I don't want to waste the money on something I already own and I'm afraid that too will not work. Again, I'll be forever grateful to anyone who manages to help me. Thank you for reading [link] [comments]

Removing many singular files from folders in bulk - Windows 10 Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:20 AM PST I have no idea if this is possible but I have an old itunes library folder that has organized everything into folders by artist. Sometimes several folders depending on the spelling. My question now is how can I get all those files put into a single folder? As an example: Music I want to pull all the song files into a single folder and not the hundreds they are currently in. Can I do that easily? [link] [comments]
Problem activating Windows 10 after hardware upgrade Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:44 PM PST Hi, I upgraded my motherboard the other day, with a fully activated Windows 10 Home. My product key was linked to my Microsoft Account which I did in order to reinstall Windows 10 a few months back and I had no problems then. However, after upgrading my motherboard, I currently have an unactivated Windows, with the error code: 0xC004F213. After going through the Troubleshooter, clicking "I have changed hardware", and selecting the device on the next screen I just get an error screen saying it cannot be activated at this time. I have reinstalled Windows again and verified my Microsoft Account today, to no avail. [link] [comments]
Tried to clone my HDD to SSD and its dead Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:32 PM PST So as the title says. I went to clone my HDD and it said failed. Restarted my PC and I cant get into windows it just sends me to the repair start up. Tried everything and it's just stuck. I'm assuming I just have to download the windows 10 ISO on a USB (that I have to buy) and install it on my SSD? [link] [comments]
Losing my mind with Windows 7 “ethernet cable unplugged” error message. Posted: 03 Dec 2018 03:46 PM PST Have an old PC I use for gaming, but it still works well. It's a wireless all-in-one deal, never had an ethernet cable. It always detected wifi with no problem. Fired it up from a deep sleep today to discover that it cannot find any wireless internet although my router is well within range and it was never an issue before. Literally nothing is discoverable. Drivers are up-to-date, and I played around with a few other settings as suggested in a couple of old forums. Nothing is working. I'm not incredibly tech-savvy, but I know I'm missing something here. Any advice would be really awesome. [link] [comments]
After 1809, windows spins up all external HDD whenever I save a file Posted: 02 Dec 2018 10:07 PM PST I have a low power external HDD that stays off until it's read by an OS, so it lags my system whenever I read/write to it initially as the disk spins up from it's sleeping state. In 1803, everything worked fine, but now in 1809 every time I save a file to my local drive, it also for some reason spins up the external drive and lags my system each time. Is this a new setting/option I can turn off? [link] [comments]
Is it possible to remove the loading thing? Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:23 PM PST I want to remove the little circle spinning loading thing from when windows is booting up. Is it possible to remove it? [link] [comments]
How do I permanently stop automatic windows update? Posted: 03 Dec 2018 12:20 PM PST The most recent update is always trying to install itself but never succeeds. It's always stuck in this infinite loop of "Dowloading update, installing, install failed, retry" kind of thing. It is slowing down my computer quite a bit. I have to keep going to the services app to disable windows updates, but it keeps enabling itself even though I disabled it. I tried pretty much every solution that I found on the internet, but it keeps re-booting the automatic update. Please help! It's driving me nuts! [link] [comments]
School computers getting virus that eats storage. Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:02 PM PST I fix computers at an elementary school and alot of the computers are getting the same virus which will eat the storage until it's at 0 bytes. Is there an antivirus that can remove all this crap or do I just have to do a full wipe of the hard drive. If you were wondering here are the specs of most of the school computers Windows 7 Pro 32-bit (Acer OEM) Some type of Core i5 4gb RAM 500gb HDD [link] [comments]
Desktop Window Manager constantly using 500+ MB of memory, even when all settings are turned down Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:55 PM PST I've noticed recently that Desktop Window Manager is always near the top of my memory usage. Right now, it's using 600 MB of memory, but I've occasionally seen it hit up to 900+ MB for a few seconds. I have rotating desktop wallpapers and dark mode enabled, but after turning those off as well as translucency and some options in the System settings, it still uses over 400 MB of memory. I'm running Windows 10 1809, with 16 GB of RAM. Is there any way I can fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:20 PM PST I have an Asus laptop and it's been having troubles connecting to the WiFi. My router is in my moms room so I can't use Ethernet as a permanent solution. The pc will randomly cut out the internet connection for 30-45 minutes at random times. It's very annoying and I was wondering if anyone knew what is wrong with it? [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Dec 2018 04:01 PM PST Hey I want to get rid of unused fonts such as emoji and wingdings, and others that the system does not use. I'll maybe keep some of the good ones, but how to I go about doing this? Is it safe to delete only some that aren't used by the system? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Does Windows 10 have 'this' screen reeder feature? Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:28 AM PST I use Mac and absolutely love one very specific part of the screen reader. The part where I can highlight text, then press a hotkey and it reads it aloud. I don't want an ongoing narration of everything that is happening on my computer, just this one simple thing. Highlight text - press the hotkey - windows reads the highlighted text. [link] [comments] |
