    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

    An Ode to Mailbox by Dropbox (and Orchestra), circa 2013-2015

    With Inbox by Gmail being phased out, it seems worthwhile to recall Mailbox), Inbox's forgotten granddad and the greatest and simplest email app which you might not have ever heard of. Mailbox was the original app which featured the by-now ubiquitous actions of swipe-to-archive and swipe-to-schedule/remind - features later implemented for Gmail in Inbox and also picked up by Outlook on mobile devices. It was developed by a group called Orchestra and then purchased by Dropbox for a cool $100 million. It was an excellent way to try to achieve inbox zero and you could do it casually on your......let's see, what year was this? 2014?....your fancy new 4" Android Lollipop device or iPhone 5S in seconds.

    It was created (as you can read in a Lifehacker interview with the dev) because email turns into a big messy pile of implicit to-do's - messages to respond to later, events to go to, packages to pick up, etc, things you can't just archive or delete and you have to do something about later. So swiping to act on a message was born. Using it, you could turn your email inbox into a simple yet powerful to-do and reminder system. And it did all this in an elegant, minimalist interface (sample screenshot). On top of all this, when they rolled out, you couldn't just sign up - like Gmail back in the day, you had to sign up or get invited. It really generated excitement.

    The Verge had a good eulogy of its innovative features at the time of its demise:

    the genius of Mailbox was twofold. First, using it simply felt faster than any email app I ever used. It pre-fetched messages in the background; whenever you opened it you could start dealing with the daily horror of your inbox right away. Second, using it was satisfying in a way no other email client was: every time I swiped my fat thumb on a message, banishing it to the archive, the email turned a lustrous green. Mailbox was good for dashing off quick replies, but it was best-in-class for cleaning house. Every time I found myself standing in a line, I'd open up Mailbox and positively murder my inbox. Mailbox turned you into an email assassin.

    Why did it die in 2015? Dropbox officially decided to focus on its main business of file syncing and to focus on team sharing. But I recall at the time that they were also saying the main innovative features were being picked up by the big guys - Inbox by Gmail and Outlook Mobile both debuted in 2014.

    It was a great idea, a great app, and I thank Gentry Underwood and his team for pulling it off.

    [DEV] Dealert - A deal tracking app where you add products you want and it will alert you of any related deals.

    Hello! I really wanted to learn Kotlin so I decided to port one of my old apps from the webOS days called Dealert. What Dealert does is allow you to add products you're interested (via keywords) and Dealert will run periodically to find any related deals and immediately alert you so you can snag the price drops before anyone else can.

    I don't want to overestimate your potential savings you can achieve with Dealert, but I have personally saved > $500 on products I was interested during the development (~1 month so far). My favorite way to use Dealert is to add products I wouldn't spend full price on, but if there is a good deal on them, I'll pick it up.

    Why the hell is it possible to turn off phone from a lock screen??

    That's really annoying and it compromises security greatly.

    For example, my friend lost his phone the other (or it was stolen) and we couldn't find via "find my phone" one hour later since the other person apparently turned it off.

    I think this should be addressed.

    YouTube is showing ads despite the fact that users have premium

    I made a post on /r/YouTube Here. And it looks like many people are having the same glitch. I spend a premium to avoid ads, but their negligence is starting to make me reconsider. It makes me feel like they're testing it out on purpose to see if they can get away with it.

    New Google Assistant for Navigation

    Just started getting a new GA popup when in navigation where it barely takes up any space. Further, when calls start it no longer open up the dialer, and instead starts the call in the background. Running stock on Pixel 2XL without beta versions of either the Google or Maps apps.
