Dual boot windows 2k8 r2 what am I missing?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:07 AM PST

I'm trying to dual boot a PC with Windows 2008 R2 for both OS's. I went through the process of creating a VHD and attaching it. My question is, do I load windows to the VHD or to the drive the VHD is stored on?

    C:/ - initial load/primary partition (disk 0) E:/ - second partition (disk 0); also holding VHD

The instructions I read said to load windows to the new partition created (E:/) and after doing that, things seem to be weird. Did I mess up? What do I need to do next?

I am using Windows 8.1 and most files are in read-only mode for some reason

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:32 AM PST

https://i.imgur.com/UjpDsa5.png - what does this mean?

I have an issue which can be solved by turning off read-only but everytime I uncheck the box, I click OK and if I go back into properties it is checked again, like someone is playing with a light switch. How can I fix this?

HDMI audio to a monitor without speakers?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 06:44 PM PST

I'm not sure how to search for this. I got a Vizio soundbar and I've routed my laptop's HDMI to the soundbar's input. Then, I'm taking the HDMI output from the soundbar and connecting it to my monitor (which does not have speakers). The problem is that my laptop still sees the monitor as the HDMI device and I don't have an HDMI audio output option. Is this normal when the HDMI device doesn't have speakers? Is there a way I can force Windows to output audio over HDMI anyway? Thanks.

RRAS VPN can't display webpages in any browser

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:39 AM PST

    Hi,

I'm french so I apologize if I make mistakes.

We use RRAS Microsoft VPN in my company, but we have some issues with it.

For some people, they can acces to our intranet but no internet by browser (but telnet on 80 or 443 works fine). For some other people, they have full access. And finally for some people, only few website are working, like twitter, facebook,... It's not the cache because we can access everywhere on the website, even after I did ipconfig /flushdns.

It's really weird because before everything was working perfectly, and since last week, some people can't work when they're not in the company phisically.

I already add in regedit the key for L2TP protocol.

If your have any suggestion, thanks.

issue with reactivating windows product key

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 06:49 AM PST

so recently I've had to switch my computer due to a malfunction in my previous one. luckily i had kept a note of my product key and was able to transfer a copy of windows to my new computer. the setup went fine but at the bottom right of my screen there's a watermark that asks me to "activate windows: go to settings to activate windows". when i try to activate it though it says i don't have a valid license key. i'm assuming this is the case because i wasn't able to deactivate the license on my old computer. so basically, in order to transfer the license over to my new computer, i have to deactivate the license on my old computer first, but i can't do so due to the fact that it's completely broken. is there anything i can do?

But since new update when i switch from 1 monitor to 2 second one is always to the right up top and it doesn;t save my configuration from previously (should be on the left). It was working in prev version, rn 1809

Issue with booting Windows 10 with UEFI

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 03:08 PM PST

So I'm trying to boot windows 10 on my computer with UEFI but the 64-bit download doesn't go on my flash drive so it has to be reformatted from FAT32 to exFAT. When I then try to boot it says it can't find the file to boot. From searching it looks like UEFI doesn't support exFAT? Does anyone know a workaround/solution? The mobo is an ROG Strix B450-F if that helps.

    Thanks!

Games Keep Minimizing in Windows 10

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 12:30 PM PST

I have recently been having an issue with most games on my pc, Black Ops 4, Fallout 76 etc, minimizing to the taskbar as soon as I open them up. Typically when I restart my computer it fixes the problem, but it gets really annoying when I try to play a game but I can't because it minimizes every few seconds. I have tried to fix it many different ways, I have set the prioritization level to high through the task manager, I installed an anti-virus to give games priority, etc. Nothing is working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why, oh why, is it SO COMPLICATED to get multiple computers to talk to each other on a private network?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:09 AM PST

This is round 3 or 4 of our computers deciding not to talk to each other.

We are running Windowss 10 v.1803

I've be tossed through so many reddit threads, youtube videos, microsoft support pages, etc. I have sunk literal days in to this issue, but yet who came to visit yesterday morning? Why if it wasn't error code: 0x80070035 and his friends "google" and "say goodbye to your afternoon".

I need help, y'all. Why did windows restructure the home group function? Does anyone have any primary, developer sources on first of all why the hell they wanted to tug on everyone's collective @&$#, and how they want customers to get their multiple computers they spend lots of fancy green money on to talk to each other?

Sorry for the unnecessary color to my post, but this has become increasingly difficult and beyond any troubleshooting a layman should have to do. I've been having to go start and stop services and stuff. How in the WORLD is a customer supposed to know to do that?

Multiple desktop wallpapers on one monitor?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 02:03 AM PST

Is there an app that allows you to tile an entire folder of different photos at once? I know the default doesn't allow this, but it would be so cool if someone knows how to accomplish this. I have checked youtube and google and reddit and haven't found anything for doing this on one monitor, I have a 3440x1440 display if it matters, thanks.

Has Windows 10 become toxic as an OS?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:23 AM PST

Has Windows 10 become toxic as an OS?

It seems that with every major release the system becomes ever more worse, unreliable and buggy beyond belief, that should be its tagline... Windows 10: Buggy Beyond Belief (Don't forget to get your daily dose of bugs from Microsoft). Apps installing without permission, updates doing what the hell they like without permission, duplicate settings to change the same functions, legacy and modern code clashing at every turn, ugly interface that does not know who it is anymore, the whole system should delete itself and take itself to the recycle bin as it's no fit for purpose

At lease when we had numbered releases we got a finished product even though with each release, companies had to still update their drivers etc but now things are being updated root and branch after merely a few months and it's no wonder that people and companies and productivity as a concept is just put by the wayside, at lease with Bill or Steve at the helm we knew where to go in terms of pointing the blame but now who do we turn to, Satya, I don't even think he uses Windows, he probably uses a mobile platform as his daily driver and he doesn't seem like the type of guy who gives 2 shits what people think so can never take the blame, I think some major stink across the community is required to get them to wake up as the Windows brand has become toxic and it will only take a rock solid upgrade to Windows 11/12 or whatever they will call it to wash away the stink that is Windows 10
