| Android started crashing today, apps incessantly stopping :( Posted: 21 Oct 2018 02:12 PM PDT I have an 8" tablet (CIGE K8) with Android 6.0 that I'd really rather not wipe. It's stock and hasn't been rooted. It crashed this morning and got stuck on the boot screen. I can get it started every other attempt, but within a couple minutes, apps are stopping rapid fire one after the other. Eventually the device crashes. I tried safe mode, but it doesn't say it's in safe mode, so I don't think that's working. I managed to uninstall the two recent (week ago) app update/installs that might be suspect, then noticed they came back (!). It reports Android being up to date. Debug mode is in Chinese and hasn't been much help. Advice welcome! [link] [comments]  |

It has no name and the icon is 3 grey dots. It had permission for my location, phone, and storage. My mother and I were discussing my hallucinations and she was sending me links with info about what causes them. None of the websites came off as suspicious, but I didn't get pop ups before we talked about it. But my data now says "H+" instead of 4G LTE and even though I have full bars, data won't work. If anyone has any answers they can give me I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much. | New phone with too much storage Posted: 21 Oct 2018 12:02 PM PDT I was recently forced into upgrading after my original pixel broke. I wanted the Pixel 2 but my only option was the 128gb version. I've never had, or needed, this much space on any device I've ever owned. So, with this seemingly unlimited amount of space, what apps would you recommend I download? My Moto G4 (older, not the Play version) screen is now totally bricked so I need to migrate my data off of it but I can't physically unlock it or use an OTG adapter. Every single guide I can find online lays out the following 4 steps:
Running Win10, I absolutely cannot get anywhere on step 3, because my phone isn't recognized by my computer until the phone is unlocked and I can't unlock it with ADB until it's recognized. I 100% know I have all the appropriate drivers installed and working because I have been using my phone as an external mic for my computer for the past two months; every time I connected it the computer did not play the Windows connection sound or pop up the device file folder until precisely when I input my lock screen code. I preemptively enabled USB debugging months ago in case I got to this point, so that is not the issue; I've needed USB debugging to use the phone as a mic via USB anyway, so I know that was properly done. Every single guide I have read just says as long as I have the right drivers running adb devices should list the phone when it's connected, but when I run that I don't see any devices. So if one requires the other and that other requires the first... am I just fucked? [link] [comments]  |

| Photos that should be hidden aren't Posted: 21 Oct 2018 12:13 PM PDT I'm on a Pixel 2 XL running Android Pi and after restarting my phone, I had a weird problem. I got all these notifications about new folders being found like UnityAdsCache, stuff that was always hidden before. After going to the folders and seeing a lack of .nomedia files, I just added them myself and then they we're hidden again Problem is after installing a new app (Akinator and DU Recorder which I'm positive didn't forget the .nomedia files), their pictures are also showing up with no .nomedia file. Besides restarting, there is nothing I've done which I think could cause this and the problem persists after clearing the app data of Photos. Posted: 21 Oct 2018 08:52 PM PDT I want to sell my old Nexus 5X but I was told on another subreddit a while ago that I should just resetting/formatting/wiping the phone though the settings app wasn't enough, and that since Android devices have open file systems I need to do a hard format with adb. So I used cmd on Windows and using Android sdk platform tools, I typed "adb reboot recovery" and my phone showed a Android robot that said "no command" under it. I held the power button and tapped the volume up button and got to this blue menu: https://i.imgur.com/UKpp5gR.jpg From which I selected "wipe data/factory reset" It says at the bottom "data wipe complete" Does this mean the internal filesystem has now been formatted and there's no way to access any of my old data even through adb when I sell the device? | What can a tablet be used for? Posted: 21 Oct 2018 10:30 AM PDT I'm planning to buy a tablet for the first time in my life. I have my eyes on Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 which runs android. My intended purpose is to use my tab for messaging my friends/team, reading books and papers, watch movies (very occasionally), comics (mostly manga) and also play music in the background while doing these (Obviously not when watching a movie). I want to try and replace my mobile (and in certain use cases, my PC) with this tablet. Do you think a tablet will serve as a good replacement or will I find myself using my tablet less and less as days pass by? By the way, is it possible to type down documents in a tablet, like typing in a computer using a keyboard? [link] [comments]  |

It for some reason does not put the CPU to sleep when I turn the screen off, even though no apps that claim to be able to detect wakelocks can find anything. | 4G / oneplus 3 / three mobile UK Posted: 21 Oct 2018 02:09 PM PDT I'm hoping someone can help at least explain what is going on! Here's my problem... When I'm at my house, I only get H+ which can be up to around 13 Mbps DL speed but.. It's very temperamental, I mainly use my oneplus 3 at home to cast Netflix etc. To chromecast... As soon as I walk out the building I get 4G / 4G+ And speeds are much faster and more consistent,,,, here's the thing,, I can force LTE only using the deep settings menu (##4636##) And it connects and I have fairly decent speeds around 15 Mbps (indoors) and Netflix for example works far better i.e watching back to back episodes there is no buffering and the video doesn't start at a lower resolution as it does when on H+ So the thing that's confusing me is why it won't connect to 4G for data and UTMS for voice service at the same time in my building when the 4G is apparently stronger and far more consistent?? I have tried, and I can confirm that at other locations such as friends houses I can get 4G and use voice / sms service fine and cast Netflix etc. If anyone has any insight and can help or explain I will be grateful as the frustration of trading off a good 4G signal for no voice calls is ever growing! | Posted: 21 Oct 2018 05:54 PM PDT This is happening on both Message+ and GroupMe messaging, as soon as I hit the plus sign to add a photo, it forces close. This wasn't an issue until today and the update was yesterday, so I assume it may be because of that. I restarted the phone and uninstalled/reinstalled GroupMe but that didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas would be helpful. I also think it would be helpful to provide feedback but am not sure who I should inform. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]  |
