PC Crashing intermittently without BSODs Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:57 PM PDT Hello, My computer has started crashing probably a month ago, and when it happens, it's usually after gaming for a few hours, and sometimes after a few minutes, so I'd call it intermittent. Checking the Windows System Logs, I could see that the code that Windows is throwing once it crashes is the code 0x00000124, which stands for the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR blue screen. I did some research, and I executed tests for longer than 10 hours on the following programs, with no issues at all: - Prime95; - Furmark; I also executed a test with MemTest x86, which returned no errors as well. My PSU, however, is really old (a XFX 750w that I've had for more than 6 years). I'm running a 6700k with a Strix 1080 TI. Could these crashes have been happening due to my PSU that might be failing? I want to be sure before I buy a new one. UPDATE: There is also some kind of beeping happening... I read that it might be RAM problem, however, there was no issues once I executed the memory test... Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Extremely unhappy with my Sceptre Monitor purchase - can only run 30hz not 60hz Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:57 PM PDT I currently have a homebuilt Windows with a 1080 SuperClocked FTW powering the graphics, and I am hooked VIA HDMI to a 27 inch sceptre monitor. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are gorgeous, just extremely disappointed at the screen tearing/ability to only run 30hz refresh. Its especially noticable when moving the mouse around the screen. Here's the catch: I can't select 60hz refresh rate for some reason, the system won't let me. I tried switching the display over to the displayport (pc) to HDMI (monitor) adapter, but then the monitor doesn't show anything and tells me there's no signal. The same adapter works fine when I hook my laptop in. What am I doing wrong? TIA! [link] [comments] |
Meta - Why is a certain free AV taboo on this sub now? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:35 AM PDT A certain AV beginning with C and ending with O is apparently not allowed to be so much as mentioned on here. When I asked about this, all I got was a vague answer about shady business practices. Just what have they been doing, and what are good alternatives that won't pester me about its premium version? Hell, I didn't even know this now-forbidden AV even had a premium version for months. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:15 AM PDT I just tried to boot up my computer and it got to the login screen fine then just turned off. Tried to presd the power button and start it up again and nothing is hapoening. Opened it up and tried turning off the psu switcb then flicking it back on and try and start it up again and the cpu fan starts to spin and the psu sounds like it just slutters out. What do i do i need to fix this within a day or so [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:43 AM PDT Hello, A couple of months ago I paused updates on my pc for 30 days to stop build 1803 from downloading as people where experience issues with their gpus and I wanted to make sure it won't cause problems. Time passed and I assumed that it would just continue downloading updates after a while, which it does, I get all security and platform(AMD microcode etc) updates, but no windows feature updates. I'm currently on 1709 Build 16299.611 and when I search for updates it says your machine is up to date. R5 1600x/Asus B350 Prime plus/Gtx 1060 6gb/3000C16 DDR4/650W 80+ Gold PSU. The whole reason I'm looking into it is I'm trying to download Forza Horizon 4 demo from the win10 store and I get this generic "You can wait a bit and try again or restart your device. That may help. Error Code 0x80070001". Thanks a lot in advance guys :) EDIT: after a lot of fiddling, Pausing the updates again and immediately unpausing fixed it. Checking for updates now and I get the latest version. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:32 AM PDT Today I tried to do some work online but was assailed by a number of alerts from my antivirus. I didn't know what the issue was so I looked up online and took a suggestion to change my anti virus (removed Avast and installed Malwarebytes+Avira). But the problem still seemed to persist and on top of that I was unable to access some websites (like google) randomly. A blank white page came up. I right clicked on some of the pages and the source code showed a script tag with crypto miner mentioned in between. I checked the task manager of Chrome and a large amount of CPU power was being spent on the blank white tab. I connected to the internet with a mobile hotspot and all seemed to work fine. The problem only came up when I tried to connect using the wifi provided by my ISP. What is the problem here and how do I resolve it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:49 PM PDT I posted this to r/warframe to see if anyone else had this problem and was told to come here for some help. Anyway, anytime I try to get on the website, it just throws me this screen: https://imgur.com/0MzgbLs When I check the errors it looks like this: https://imgur.com/I3kktkN I have tried hard refreshing, restarting my computer, disabling adblock, clearing my cache, and trying to access the site on a different browser. Any information could be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Notepad++ no longer seems to be able to "find" quotation marks in my documents Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:10 PM PDT Hello everyone, I didn't know where else to post this - the r/notepad subreddit seems to be pretty dead... Part of my job requires converting excel files into .csv files, and then importing them into our system, however the system will reject the file if there are quotation marks in the document When there are commas in the document, opening it in Notepad++ will put a quotation around any cell that included the comma in order to differentiate it from the rest of the commas (which represent the cell breaks). Up until about a week ago, I was able to use the "find" feature to find any quotation marks in the document and amend the errors, but now it seems as though quotation marks are no longer discoverable to Notepad++ - am I doing something wrong, or has my version of Notepad++ broken? Laptop Running Slowly All of a Sudden? Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:32 PM PDT I have an XPS 15 I purchased about a year and a half ago for college. It has worked great for me since I got it, my only complaint being that it can't run any games with great graphics at 60 fps (I knew it wasn't going to be a gaming laptop going into it, so I don't have any problem with that). However, starting this morning, it has been very slow and unresponsive, taking upwards of 10 seconds to open a tab in Edge or open a new window when I open a program or file. This all started this morning when I turned it on, and it was working fine for me last night. Now I can't even maintain a steady 30 fps on lower graphics settings than I was using before and is giving me lots of stuttering. I've tried all the antimalware programs listed in the stickied post, and tried restarting and updating Windows, but nothing has worked. Looking at Task Manager and Resource Monitor hasn't turned up anything that looks like it's hogging a large amount of resources either. Has anyone had this issue before, and does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong or how to fix it? My specs are an i7 processor, 16GB RAM and an Nvidia GTX 1050. I don't know much about computers, so let me know if there's anything else you need to know that I left out. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Hostile Google takeover on my Samsung note S5 Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:24 AM PDT For a while now I've been having trouble with this google app on my phone, something starts playing on my phone telling me the google app needs permissions on my phone? and it forcibly turns up the volume to the MAX so I can't do anything without restarting my phone The google app also pops up randomly interrupting whatever I'm doing, but its just a loading screen with no options so I can't do anything. Disabling the app does nothing. Quite honestly this is terrifying and makes me even less willing to give Google these permissions it wants lol [link] [comments] |
What type of cable for data transfer/charging for Huawei Honor 8 Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:12 AM PDT Hello, I have an Huawei Honor 8 phone that is equipped with USB-C connector. For charging from wall socket i have of course a charger and a cable that has USB 2.0 on one end and USB C on other end. Now i want to buy an extra cable that ill be using to connect my phone to my PC for charging but also for data transfer from phone internal memory. What kind of cable should i buy? My case is equipped with an USB 3.0 connector and USB 3.1 gen2 connector with USB-C shape. Would buying anything above standard USB 2.0 cable (with USB-C on other end) have any impact on charging or data transfer speed? Would buying a cable with USB 3.0 on one end and USB-C (are this even a thing?) on other speed up data transfer? Same goes for buying an USB-C to USB-C cable [link] [comments] |
what kind of streaming continuously eats up the most bandwidth even while left on idle? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:05 AM PDT So i thought it was because of the heat and i want to know if there is a way to disable one screen port on the gpu (to not give it power) while playing ? And i feel like the path of the air in my pc is kinda fucked up (http://xn--pp-oia.com/Hio6) so that is a reason that the heat goes that high. Any ideas ? thank you [link] [comments] |

My iphone se is having texting issues. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:53 AM PDT About a week ago, after getting the IOS 12 update, I began having issues with the Imessage. 2 of my contacts that I individually texted somehow joined under one name, and the entire chat history is my dads, but my moms name shows up. Any ideas? (Send and receive is only my own phone #) [link] [comments] |

Blue screens and computer resets. DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION - Have minidump files Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:39 AM PDT Hi All, I have a driver causing some pretty bad problems. Resets without bsod and sometimes blue screens happen when I do certain actions. One way to get my PC to crash is to plug in my Wired Xbox One Controller, and then click or press a key on the keyboard. Another way is to install Logitech Gaming Software, restart the computer, and then a reset happens as soon as Logitech Gaming software detects my logitech mouse or keyboard. Both of these crashes relate to USB or I/O hardware. I've made forum posts on TomsHardware and Microsoft's website Here is my msinfo32: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjYbfOW_DSQ4hOZPHG9snLzpvYZNGw I have four Minidump files, The first three are DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION Bluescreens (i think): https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjYbfOW_DSQ4hOZJjDoKOp911Rhx1A and this fourth minidump is from a DRIVER_PAGE_FAULT_BEYOND_END_OF_ALLOCATION (xboxgip.sys) bsod, which happened once when I plugged in my Xbox One Controller (most of the time a reset happens with no bsod): https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjYbfOW_DSQ4hOZH-lCUY7JnLLXBhQ The DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION bluescreen doesn't tell me what driver had the problem. Most of my components are new, the Windows install is about a week old. My specs are:

Duplicate pictures in folders that don't exist anymore Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:33 AM PDT I tried to move the "my pictures" folder to another partition (C to E) I fucked it up and that folder actually became an exact copy of my E partition. With some struggle I managed to get it mostly right again so that the "my pictures" is now again on partition C. However one problem remains: Whenever I open the pictures app over the windows start menu most of the images in there are grey and it tells me that I don't have permission to view them. I looked into it for a bit and it turns out that the grey images are exact duplicates of the images in the "my pictures" folder, however, they still exist on partition E in folders that I deleted or moved in the process of moving the "my pictures" folder. Consequently windows doesn't let me delete them. How can I get rid of the duplicate images? Any help is greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
Questions Before an RMA... Nighthawk X10 R9000 Router Connectivity Issues Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:20 AM PDT Hey guys, I normally answer questions but curious if anyone else has had this experiance. I went "all out" and got the "best" Nighthawk I could over the summer as I have multiple people logging into my network with some fairly high bandwidth hardware. To do a brief rundown: An HD Baby Monitor, 3 Chromecasts, 1 smart TV, 1 4k HD Amazon Fire, 3 high end Gaming Machines (2 of which stream), and of course a total of 5 high end smart phones (the slowest of which being Note 5s). This is a large 2 family home, so I figured I'd get the beefiest Router I could and I shouldn't have any issues. Additionally this is all going through a 300mbps down /35mbps up WAN (The second I get a higher upload option I'm taking it...) now: The Issue! I am getting random disconnects, not from my WiFi, but from my wired connections, and it is 100% Random. My wife and I will be playing Overwatch, streaming, etc, and suddenly we'll lose the Ethernet port the PC is connected two for about 1 full second - enough to knock one of us off the Internet. I know it's not just a random disconnect from Battle.net or a Blizzard Server issue, because our Twitch Stream also goes offline each time. This happens so fast that Windows barely has time to pop an exclamation mark on the network connection - it goes out, and comes back right away. So the issue is affecting all services on each PC at random. I almost feel like it's Russian Roulette as to which PC gets "The Boot". The router is well ventilated, I have turned off Traffic Monitoring, Upnp, the 60ghz wifi (as it's not being used), and QoS, and the issue remains. Any other suggestions before I just RMA this thing back to Netgear? (And Yes, most recent firmware has been installed recently, issue persists.) [link] [comments] |
Asus MX239H Monitor glitching out (video included) Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:13 AM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGTYwE-jKjc I don't think it has anything to do with windows, as it does this when I extend my Chromebook to it with an HDMI as well. Do I have to bring this in to be repaired, trash it, or is this an easy fix? Please respond, I want to use Illustrator and I can't.

Laptop freezes randomly. Goes back to normal if I unplug the power cord Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:11 AM PDT Laptop freezes randomly. The image is frozen and I can't move the cursor. But if I have a song playing on youtube, the audio keeps playing even when the freezing happens. This goes back to normal if I unplug the power cord. (it doesn't freeze again if I plug it back in) Sometimes it happens 2-3 times in a day, other times it happens a few times a week. What do you think the problem is? I have a i7-8750H, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1060 GPU, 240 GB SSD, 930 HDD. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:56 AM PDT I have been having random PC reboots / power dropouts (at least thats what I would call them) for the past few days. I am almost sure my PSU is on the way out (7 years old silverstone) but I figured I'd get some advice before I replace it. Specs
Everything outside of the PSU is under a year old. Steps I have taken
So far, running just the UW monitor, I seem to be fine... but I am sure its only a matter of time till it trips. Anyone got any ideas before I resort to a PSU replacement? [link] [comments] |
