Posted: 29 Oct 2018 03:55 PM PDT While browsing amazon my dad was redirected to a site that claimed in a robotic voice that there was a severe virus infection and they needed credit card information to be filled out to fix it. We've all seen these sites before, but I'd like to know why it's happening and what can be done to prevent accidental navigation to similar sites. Their web history before the redirect were several amazon searches. The website in question redirected to "insertingaccess302-net.ml/..." and so forth if that's important. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I'm looking for anything you guys might know about the potential cause. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
PC takes 3-4 attempts to boot (when room cold?) Posted: 30 Oct 2018 01:30 AM PDT I have a small PC I built myself about a year ago, which is:
Recently, it's been taking 3-4 attempts to boot. Here's what happens:
Eventually however, I'll hear the boot fan "whoosh" of the RX480 and all will be good. This has only been happening since the temperature dropped to around 0C. Could it be that it's too cold for the GPU to start or the PSU to supply the GPU fully? There's nothing useful in the event log or reliability history. [link] [comments] |
Razer Naga 2014 Chroma lighting issue Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:19 AM PDT Hello! My Razer Naga 2014 Chroma's lighting partly stopped working suddenly when I started up my PC this morning. I have updated the drivers, restarted my computer and plugged the USB into different ports, but the logo can only display blue lighting, while the scroll wheel and thumbgrid are working just fine. Is there a solution for this? [link] [comments] |
Unable to boot new pc w/ windows Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:18 AM PDT Morning. In need of some desperate help. Just build a new pc last night. All hardware installed properly and without issues. Booted up first time no issues. Access to bios with no issues. Plugged in new Windows 10 usb bought from pcworld. Entered into bios and set boot priority to the usb Now getting multiple errors and unable to get into any pages to get install done. When trying to boot with 64bit I am getting error code of "You do not have this disk" windows system32 drivers bfadi.sys 0xc0000098 And this is an endless loop. Have then tried to install 32bit to upgrade to 64bit later. Manage to get to a bsod with error code 0xc000021a - Windows says it will restart and again this becomes and endless loop. Have removed gpu, all ram except stick, all hdd, all ssd Still nothing Plugged it all back in, no improvement. Currently downloading Windows install media on new usb, but just hopefully somebody can give me some advise in the meantime? Many thanks in advance Mike [link] [comments] |
Combining 2 Ethernet Connections Posted: 30 Oct 2018 02:30 AM PDT I am currently residing in an apartment building and I have 2 ethernet lines connected to my room. Each of them seems to be capped at 5mbps down, which is really slow compared to most modern WiFi. Because there are 2 connections, I wonder if it is possible to combine 2 lines, so that the theoretical download speed would be 10 mbps, which would help a lot. Is there any way to make this work? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
What is the difference between Crucial 4GB CT51264BF160BJ and CT51264BF160B Posted: 30 Oct 2018 12:11 AM PDT I checked both from the Crucial website and site says both are compatible to my old Lenovo Flex 2-14 80FJ59420644 laptop. There's a bit of a price difference between the 2 and I want to make sure I understand how one differs from the other. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Oct 2018 08:50 PM PDT Hey, my CODBO4 crashes every time on startup, I've tried virtually everything, including resetting all my pc removing all the files. I can't play the game at all. It was fine a couple of days ago and then suddenly it just crashed. I have an MSI R9 390 8GB and an i7 4790 with 12gb ram. Also everytime it crashes the audio on my pc stops, even when my headphones are plugged in, they're not detected. [link] [comments] |
One fan on gtx 1080 stopped spinning causing the other to be at full speed at all times. Posted: 29 Oct 2018 06:02 AM PDT Hi I have a inno3d gtx 1080 and the left fan stopped spinning some time ago and while I thought back then that it was because that it didnt need to, my gpu has started overheating causing the pc to turn itself off. I dont know what caused my fan to stop spinning and dont really know where to begin fixing the problem after researching it on google for a while. [link] [comments] |
Email from my own email account claiming to have my "keys". Included last 2 digits of my cell Posted: 29 Oct 2018 07:01 PM PDT I consider myself fairly tech savvy but was freaked out by this email. It was indeed sent from my own account (I checked my sent folder). I immediately checked all device logins and noticed one from IL. I logged out from all devices and changed all passwords. The email was written in a very odd style claiming that it had recordings of me ? And demanding $$ to a btc account. How concerned should I be? How could this happen ? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Oct 2018 09:10 PM PDT Gigabyte MB GA-MA785GMT-UD2H REV: 1.1 and FX 8320 CPU Everything else is from a working system, that I am typing on now. PSU, ram, graphics card. I went through all the tests on the internet. I tried different ram in different spots. I hooked up a little beeper, never got a beep even when I started it with no ram. I removed the graphics card and hooked to the mother board's VGA and HDMI. I also reset the CMOS. All the CPU pins look good. The MB has no burn spots or anything visible. The fans will spin continuously on the CPU and the graphics card when I had it plugged in. There is no power LED on the MB, if there is it is not lighting. No display, not even a try. I have built a couple computers in my time. No noob mistakes. Just not much experience with broken stuff. So am I correct to assume it is the mother board? Or could it possibly be the CPU? Ever play SSD musical chairs with an intel rst array? Posted: 29 Oct 2018 05:53 PM PDT I just bought an Acer Predator laptop. I'm actually really happy with it but I'd like to beef up the storage a bit because the 2 120GB m.2 SSDs are over half full already and the 1TB HDD is a bit slow. I'd like to not run the m.2's in raid 0 which was configured from the factory (using intel rapid storage technology), I just don't like the idea of one drive destoying 2 drives worth of data on failure. I'm still back and forth on whether to buy 2 500GB M.2 drives and a 1TB 2.5" SSD or not but either way I'm likely replacing all 3 drives. I don't know a ton about Intel RST but here's my thought process:
The problem is, I don't know a whole lot about intel RST, but it seems to be software controlled rather than a regular raid controller so I'm not sure any live boot imaging software would pick up the array. Does anybody have any experience with rst? I'd REALLY rather not reinstall windows, if I have to hear Cortana one more time I'm going to lose my mind, plus I already have everything set up and activated and it's worth it to me to go through several imaging processes and resize/align drives than to download everything again on my potato internet connection. As a side note, are all m.2 slots compatible with NVMe drives? I'm a little behind on solid state technology. [link] [comments] |
Wifi going down ~4 times per hour Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:58 AM PDT Hi, so roughly two years ago we got a fibre connection of 150/10. It was working perfectly fine for a year, but for the last year-ish it'll just randomly crash for a second or two. This isn't that big of a problem when I'm writing stuff or editing something etc. but since I play quite a lot of multiplayer fps, never getting to play a full game without getting kicked due to internet is pretty annoying. The crashed affect the entire household, including my brother's PC which is using ethernet (same room as the router). I have a slight feeling that it may just be that our provider is shit, but switching provider based of "eh, maybe it'll fix it" seems like a bad call. I've got no clue as to what the issue is and I've got very limited knowledge as to how routers etc. work and so on. I'll gladly provide any extra information that could be of use. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Oct 2018 01:28 PM PDT Ive made previous posts about this along the way. The ping spikes between 200 and 1,000 ms every 5-10 seconds for a period of less than a second (sorry that was wordy). Not hardware, I currently own 3 modems, 3 routers, 6 ethernet cables and 2 coax. Tested hardwired, and independent wireless, same signature spike. They dropped a new line from the pole to the house, I was present and the guy who came out had me help him unwrap the cable from the tree the pole is adjacent to. Which after all this was done, the ping went from spiking at 250ms to spiking at 500 - 1,000 ms on average. What the fuck. edit: my old post with tons of screen caps from meter.net and pingplotter Also Im in Austin Texas, not the boonies. I am paying for 400mbps and just want less than 100 ping, which I realize is alot to ask for when 1 ISP owns a neighborhood. modem status: https://imgur.com/a/QuvZJOZ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:43 AM PDT Hi! so I bought a new PC and i was wondering what the best way to move all my data to my new pc would be? I didn't have a big hard drive anyway so i've only got 175GB of data to move lol. USB stick is not recognized on my Mac but works just fine on Windows Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:42 AM PDT Hi Reddit ! My problem is with a Sandisk USB stick I got and formatted in ExFat format because I messed with it and had to do it. I did that initially on my Windows computer and everything worked just fine until I plugged it into my Macbook and it didn't show up, I reformatted it on my Mac with "Mac OS extended (case-sensitive, journaled)" and that worked on Mac but not on windows. So what's the issue I don't want to go back and forth formatting it all the time. I hope someone can help me out cause this is really frustrating me.. Thank you :D P.s: It worked just fine out of the box before I messed with it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:35 AM PDT I got some new hardware (pc mobo and ram) and installed win10 on a new ssd (which I had problem installing windows 10 on before because I had another board that didn't work). I updated windows and installed drivers. When I play video games the windows 10 crashes and starts collecting crash info and then restarts. I think it crashes on high disk usage tho, if i remember correctly it crashed once or twice out of games. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Oct 2018 09:36 PM PDT Lately over last 2 weeks when gaming and having chrome loaded my PC would freeze and a buzz would come from the speakers i assume is the last sound lopped now as much as I would say I'm tech smart when it comes to diagnosing possible hardware errors I'm horrid but searching the web lead me to stress check my processor (Intel) GPU (nvidia) both came back with flying colors. Check heat levels all good. Lastly was told to use memtest86+ to check my ram. At this point it lit up over 160 errors all error 8 I can't deny this is a bad omen for the memory. Now I'm unsure if It will 100% be the memory or the motherboard(hope not) but I'm unsure how to check the ports as the empty ones are blocked by the CPU water cooler. Other than what I've done so far can anyone advise other steps to take tests to do along with information you need so I can update this post. Oh and if it makes a difference I'm using Windows 10. Thanks for any help/advice provided [link] [comments] |
iPhone X won’t charge via MacBook Pro Posted: 29 Oct 2018 09:35 PM PDT Whenever I attempt to charge my phone via my Mac's usb ports, it acts like I'm constantly unplugging/plugging back in my phone. I used to charge it all the time doing this, but now it doesn't seem to work. I've tried different ports and cables but they all act the same. Using a regular wall adapter or a wireless charger always works fine. I've also tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, but it still occurs. iPhone X is on iOS 12.0.1. MacBook Pro is on macOS 10.14. My CD/dvd drive no longer shows up and my attempts to fix this made it much worse Posted: 29 Oct 2018 11:44 PM PDT First, after burning a cd my cd/dvd drive disappeared entirely. I opened device manager and nothing strange popped up. I followed the advice on the following guide and uninstalled the Dvd drive, with the hopes that it would update the driver and return. Well, now the thng is gone entirely. I really need this thing and use it on a daily basis, can someone please help me out? I have an ROG desktop and Windows 10. [link] [comments] |

Using damaged PCI-e 8 8-pin connectors Posted: 30 Oct 2018 03:19 AM PDT Recently bought a new case for my PC, so I basically rebuilt it. I must have been careless while unplugging the pci-e cables that power the GPU (gtx 770) from my modular power supply (OCZ ZT650), because apparently my dumb ass managed to rip out two cables from the connector at the psu side. Viewing the cable with the piece of locking plastic on the bottom, it's the bottom left cable (black, ground) and one 12v connector (also a black cable for some reason; the other 12v's are yellow but there's two loose cable ends and two empty holes on the connector). l I taped off the now free-dangling ends of what I assume is copper, said a little prayer, plugged them in the psu and gpu as if nothing was wrong and switched on the pc. "Please plug in PCI-E power cable". Switched the two power cables in the PSU around, tried again, and this time everything ran normal. Nothing seemed wrong, even ran a slight overclock on my GPU for the last few weeks. Yesterday however the screen randomly turned gray when I maximised a skype video call. Audio was just fine, just a completely gray screen. After a couple reboots and some "no signal detected" messages it ran again but it seems to go gray when I make the GPU work a little. I have a feeling that the damaged GPU power cables have something to do with it. Does anyone know what those two loose cables do? Is it just providing electricity or is there more to it than that?
