Is there a list of all Windows/File Explorer columns, organized by category/type?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:50 AM PDT

Is there a list of all Windows/File Explorer columns, organized by category/type?

Is there a list of all the (Windows 7) columns (detail columns) for Windows/File Explorer, organized by category/type?

For example, there are many columns for Outlook item metadata, there are many columns for photo metadata...

But, the list of columns is only organized alphabetically (see screenshot below), so it's tough finding all the photo metadata columns, Outlook metadata columns, etc, ha.

    List of Windows/File Explorer columns

I've googled for a list of the columns with categories, but I can't find one?

Windows 10 Oct update ruined Edge for TTS

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:38 PM PDT

I was using Edge to read my books for me for a long time now (Mark voice is so good) but the new update completely destroyed it. Now Edge consider epub chapter as a single page instead of breaking it to multiple pages like before. This means skip text function now switch chapters instead of next line text. Also it cramps text in a way that mouse wheel switches chapters instead of going down to see the rest of the text. In addition TTS text highlight no longer move with the voice once it reach the bottom of the screen.

What the fuck do I do....this used to be my favorite way to read books. What is worse there are no options anywhere in edge to fix any of this shit.

    Windows stuck Between login screens.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:50 AM PDT

Ever since I got my Lenovo ideapad flex 4 it has had the most annoying little problem. On startup, the screen that displays a picture with the time comes up fine, and then when I hit enter the text runs up the screen and then it is supposed to ask me for my password. The problem is that sometimes it does not ask me for my password and it is just left there displaying the picture indefinarely until I do a hard reset. What is going on here?

Mac person but I need to clean a Windows machine. What's the best way to go about it?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:07 PM PDT

My mom's computer I believe has some malware on it. She said there's a bunch of added toolbars in the browser and I have deleted those many times but they always seem to come back.

I know she used to the McAfee but im not sure if the subscription ended and maybe she didnt renew it so that will be the first thing I check. I use a Mac so I don't know a whole lot about windows computers so would my best bet be to just do a hard restore? She doesn't have a whole lot she needs other than pics and stuff that I could probably just throw in an email.

I was wondering if ya'll had any opinions?

    Thanks

What is a good 64-bit Windows 7 startup program software like outdated Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel v2.8?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:42 PM PDT

Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel doesn't seem to show everything like msconfig.exe, but I don't like that program since it makes me reboot, show duplicates that get readded, etc. Also, it needs to be free. :)

How to trick a program into thinking a folder is somewhere else

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:19 PM PDT

[I hope I used the correct flair, sorry if not]

I don't know how clear my title is but what I'm trying to do is make a batch file that launches a program but it also tells the program that the documents folder is somewhere else. I am trying to run a game off of a flash drive, the game keeps itself all in one file except for the saves which are in the documents folder. I want to create a fake documents folder on my flash drive that the batch file points to instead of the real PC documents folder.

I think I've created a batch file to do this before but I can't find it and don't remember how I did it.

If anyone has any idea if this is possible, or how to do it, it be much appreciated.

Edit: Basically I want to try to make this game portable so I can put it in different computers throughout the day and the save will always be there without me needing to manually copy it to the documents of the machine I'm using

Edit: If this can be done in C++, C#, or Python instead of batch that also works

Windows 10 on newly built PC, transferring settings

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:15 AM PDT

I built a new PC and transferred my W10 to it using the media creation tool. Right now though I have barebones W10 and none of my previous settings were carried over. How can I get W10 to go back to the way it was on my old PC?

Tried reinstalling windows but stays at setup is starting screen

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:02 PM PDT

I have a Samsung laptop that came with Windows 7, I updated it to Windows 10 and then the problem started to happen. I turned on the laptop and it was just the windows 10 logo with a spinning circle and no progress. I then put the Samsung recovery disk in and chose my country and language to install Windows again and it's just stuck on set up is starting and was like this way for around 6 hours. I have tried logging into the bios and changing to default settings but no avail. I have also tried searching for SATA control and tried seeing if I can change it to AHCI, however it is not on the menu at all. I have also tried to change the boot option to boot the cd/DVD drive first but yet again no avail I have also tried samsung recovery and wiping the disk clean, however it brings me to a green screen and says please wait and doesn't load. and will stay there for a few hours. my system information is the following SATA port 1 : samsung HN-M750MBB SATA port 2 - MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ8A7AS CPU Vendor Intel (R) CPU type Core (tm) i5-252430m CPU CPU SPEED 2.40 Ghz CPU VT (VT-x) Supported Total memory 6144 MB BIOS Version 13FD MICOM Version 13FD sorry if this information is not needed but it's the only information of the device that I have. I have also tried the turning it off 3 times until automatic repair screen appears however when I do this it loads, shows a little box for half a second and then a black screen. if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. thank you so much for reading.

Windows 10 on old computer licensing.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 01:06 PM PDT

    Hello!

So i recently wanted to get life to an old fellow (Hp 255g3) (windows 8.1) And realised the backupdrive and my cd was gone. There was no way for me to wipe my drives or reinstall windows.

I then tried to install windows 10 since i heard you dont need to have a key and that you just get trademarks all over, so i did. I made a usbbootable drive and installed it. To my suprise when i checked the activation for windows it said that it was digital licensed?

So did my old hp-version of windows just turn into a windows 10 license? Im extremly confused but it works great.

I did the usb from my other desktop through the media creation tool. I didnt steal the key from that computer did i?

Kind regard from a fellow, non native english speaker who are confused and glad at the same time.

How do I ensure a consistent multi-monitor configuration?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 11:37 AM PDT

    We have 5 3840x2160 displays, a Radeon WX 9100 GPU, and Win 10 1803.

I need to configure each monitor to display as 1920x1080 at the same framerate (ideally 60). The displays support that resolution and framerate. A specified monitor must remain the main monitor across reboots. The problem is that when the computer restarts, the monitors take a variable amount of time to initialize, which leads to some of the monitors reverting to 3840x2160 and/or to a different framerate (59, 29, or 30).

Any ideas how I can get this multi-monitor setup to come back up consistently? I'll consider paid software to do this if it's the only way. I'm able to modify the registry or write a script to manually configure the displays a few minutes after boot if that's possible.

TIL Windows 10's default Photos app is Garbage. Are there any free alternatives?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:53 PM PDT

I recorded my gameplay and wanted to upload it on Twitch. It was 20.7 GB, but unfortunately Twitch only accepts upto 20 GB. So, I decided to trim it using Photos app. It trimmed it alright, but stupid app changed bitrate from 10 Kbps to 13 Kbps, increasing it's size to 27 GB. More on that, it changed framerate from 60 fps to 30 fps. WTF? There are no options to change those settings. It just asks for a trim and changes framerates and bitrates on it's own.

    Windows abuses users!

The program ShellExperienceHost.exe version 10.0.17134.1 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

MACBOOKS ARE THE WORST. Help me find a replacement.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:14 AM PDT

Sorry, but I need to rant and hopefully convince others who are on the fence like I was last year (between Mac and PC). Opted for Mac as I use Imovie occasionally for work.....

IT has been a bloody nightmare:

    - nothing is compatible, I have a hard drive with all my work stuff that wont connect

    - I can't even connect USBs to it (my bad there I did know this when I bought it...)

    - nothing can be found, everything is stored in weird ways in apps and shit that make so difficult to relocate stuff

    - everything is stored on the cloud and has to be downloaded any time I want to use it

    - all Microsoft Office apps are just so convoluted and difficult to use compared to on Windows (e.g. today I was trying to find the excel link from a chart in my Powerpoint presentation and there is no option to view these links! It's like they have never existed). Will now need to retroactively trawl through my work server to find the excel spreadsheet... I have had the same issue on Windows but they at least have a list of what these links were called on the Info section

    - I have a VPN at for a remote server at work and my Macbook crashes 6/10 times I try to connect to it. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me it was nothing to do with it being a Mac even though my IT support people found forums listing people with the exact problem and linking it to a Mac April 2018 updated.

I am now seriously considering trading this in and getting myself a really good PC set up. My work does require me to use Creative Cloud which uses a lot of RAM and a lot of Media, which I would ideally have stored all on my laptop (and also backed up to a hard drive and the server). Does anyone have suggestions on mid-top range model laptops which would be good for this?
