[TUTORIAL] How to enable performance mode on any xiaomi device and get no lag in games

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:10 PM PDT

I am writing this because I had a horrible time getting games to run properly on my new Redmi Note 5 and after I did this it was 100% lag free and I just wanted to share. Please note this will probably drain your battery faster.

Step 1: download the ADB fastboot and drivers to your PC here: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=file-thanks&fid=962187416754459552&mid=187&download_id=135a7f9ea4f83db7bed2b35eb30ca8e7&tid=1538183099&hc=fb431b728872b30bfdacef2f0e1621345691dcc0b61f3b86bb04b0fc001fa112

Step 2: extract the files to a folder somewhere easy to remember into one folder.

Step 3: On your xiaomi device enable developer options and then enable USB debugging.

Step 4: Plug your phone into your PC with the original USB cable.

Step 5: open the folder up where you extracted the files too and double click on "cmd-here.exe" and it will open up a command prompt window.

Step 6: In the command prompt window type "adb devices" and wait for the daemon to start.

Step 7: unlock your phone while still leaving it plugged in and you will see an option asking it to allow USB debugging to this computer, just choose OK.

Step 8: back in the command prompt window now type "adb shell" and wait for the new line to load.

Step 9: type in this command and press enter "am start -n com.android.settings/com.android.settings.fuelgauge.PowerModeSettings"

Step 10: On your phone you will see a popup on the bottom asking you what mode you want to enable. tap on performance mode and tap OK.

Thats it you are now running in the highest performance mode possible. I have no idea why xiaomi decided to disable this on the new MIUI. I assume its to ensure you have the longest battery life.

Id like something with good battery life a decent camera but nothing too fancy. Should I stick with the redmi 5 plus again or is there a better deal out there?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 07:40 PM PDT

When I bring up the recent app view, if I press the X, all apps closes except for the last used one which reopen were I left off after other apps have closed and the released memory shows.

How do I make this kill all the apps like any normal android phone?

Grey bar at top of screen

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 07:20 PM PDT

Does anyone know what the grey bar at the top of the screen is?

    https://i.imgur.com/Y3n7doM.jpg

It only ever shows up when I open a game and then close it. The only way to get rid of it is to reload my themes.

Mi Mix 2 acting worse while charging

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:58 PM PDT

While charging I used finger print scanner, it doesnt work, works only after 3-4 tries. And after I remove the charger, fingerprint scanner works immediately.

Also, while charging i did video call, person on the other end cannot hear me properly, they said my voice was too low. Additionally, i cannot hear them well too, the sound was too low... Guess what happens after i remove the charger, video call voice and the audio goes back to normal and its working fine again.

    Anyone having the same issue?

Sent back my Mi A2 (4/32) and bought the Poco F1(6/64). Some thoughts

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 12:24 AM PDT

Build Quality: No surprise here, the A2 feels better in hand , it's slimmer and lighter. Poco doesn't feel bad either but A2 feels like an apple product.

Design: This is a big one, I hated the chin+software keys combo on the A2, it takes humongous space. I actually tried some gesture navigation apps from the play store but they were lagging. The F1 actually has a smaller chin, and with those gestures, it's a hell of a lot better.

I don't think I'll even flash android P because i understand that the pill still takes screen real estate, why even change the soft keys ?

The notch is not a problem, i love the fact that the status bar is besides it, so why would i not want it? More space for activities

Display: The Poco display gets way brighter, it's actually a big damn difference, also the auto brightness works as intended.

Speaker: Not much of a difference, it sounds roughly the same, +1 for Poco because it uses the earpiece for stereo.

Performance: Went from Iphone 3G-> Redmi Note 3 -> Mi A2 -> Poco. Never had a flagship before. It's not that big of a deal , Everything above a 650 is alright. I wanted the poco because i started playing pubg with my friends. It is really snappy tho, better than my sister's s8 by a long shot. On the A2, i made the animations 0.5x , it sped up the device very much.

Fingerpint : The one on the A2 never missed, the F1 one misses 1 out of 20 or so tries.

Battery: At the end of the day i get home with 45% on the Poco / 20-25% on the A2.

Camera : I really belive that the A2 has the better camera overall, it's photos are just more clear and sharper. Someone said in a post that the F1 has the Mix2S sensor and the A2 has the Mix2 sensor so i don't know, maybe it will get better in a future update. Selfies look exactly the same ( most important thing for me).

One major thing that i want to add is that MIUI has gotten a lot better ( 10 dev beta i have) , it looks nicer and the gestures are just great. It's really nice that I can flash a vanilla rom later down the road also. Choices are underrated!

Edit: Also, the Poco Launcher is really cool, it can hide system apps from the app drawer and it retains the gesture swipe up animation that you lose when switching to a different launcher.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro retains the Snapdragon 636, picks up a notch and dual front cameras

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:53 AM PDT

Anyone upgraded from the Redmi Note 5 (636) to the Poco F1?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 04:33 PM PDT

What's your experience like? I'm currently using the RN4 (625) and am wanting to upgrade to one of these phones. The Note 5 6GB/64 variant goes for about $270 AUD, while the Poco F1 6GB/64 goes for $430 AUD when on sale.

I'm mainly buying it for the camera, performance and battery. I don't game, but I would like a really smooth and snappy experience. Wondering whether the Note 5 will suffice for a few years in this regard.

I'm aware that both will be a downgrade in terms of battery life, but are reasonably close.

Mi A2 Lite or Mi A2 or something entirely else?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 09:38 AM PDT

/r/PickAnAndroidForMe is pretty didn't answer my question, so i'll ask functionally the same question here.

My budget is 250$. What Xiaomi phones do you recommend to me?

    -Dual SIM is a must

    -I don't play heavy games(fortnite/pubg)

    -Mostly use it for reddit/youtube

-My current phone is an S6 (3gb/32gb)

So Mi A2 has a SD 660, but a smaller batter life (3000mah vs 4000 mah) compared to the Mi A2 Lite

So in a real world scenario, does the CPU or the battery sizes matter? Which one of these phones should I get? Also is it worth to just pay a bit more for the 4GB ram model?

Does anyone use an app that lets you know when your battery is done charging?

I ask because I've tried some and there are a few that don't seem to work with MIUI.

Photos file type changed, can't open them.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 01:17 PM PDT

My phone went under reset, and I thought that my hidden folder was deleted, but I later found it on my MIUI folder in the SD card. There are some important photos there, and they seemed to just change their own file type to some combination of letters and numbers, replacing the spot where ".jpg" was supposed to be. What is this thing? What am I supposed to do and will I be able to recover these photos? The files.

Mi Mix 2 (250 EUR) vs Pocophone F1 (300 EUR)

    Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:55 AM PDT

I am debating which I should go for. I understand the specs and the primary question for me is which one has a better quality LCD panel? Anyone who had seen both, how do they compare? Prices are for the 64 gb versions.
