Where to get skin/cover for ideapad 120s? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 07:54 AM PDT I see some on Amazon but I'm wondering if you guys know of a more popular/customizable skin company for that specific model of laptops? Here is the model. [link] [comments]
Dell 13" laptops not shipping until October or later Posted: 12 Sep 2018 10:56 AM PDT According to a Dell chat on my order, all Dell 13" laptops are not shipping due to a parts shortage on the "assembly", something to do with the processor. The person I chatted with said even October is an unknown. Nice! [link] [comments]

Looking for a sub 1k business notebook Posted: 12 Sep 2018 02:14 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget and country of purchase: U.S., $1000 * Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. battery and specs How important is weight and thinness to you? Somewhat, should be portable Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" minimum Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Good keyboard is a must Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is just a work laptop for my mom at her new job. It will be carried around minimally, but shouldn't be really heavy. Intel HD is fine, it will be used mainly for word processing and web browsing. In her words, it shouldn't be "ugly like those game computers" [link] [comments]
Good deal for school/gaming/personal laptop? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 02:13 PM PDT Yo just wondering. I'm new to the whole PC world so I'm not sure about this. Looking to buy a new laptop and found one with these specs: 8th gen i7, 16GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1060 6GB, 1080p 144hz ips screen. Also in a thin build. For a little over $1400 is it a good price and what capabilities would it have with most games [link] [comments]
Anyone got any information on this laptop? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 02:12 PM PDT So I've been looking for a while at getting one of the new Asus Vivobook S range that was demoed at Computex 2018 (specifically the Vivobook S14 S430UN). For some reason, the laptop only shows up on the US version of Asus' website (I'm in the UK). I also contacted Asus and they haven't got back to me on when or if the product will be released in the UK. I'm posting here to see if I've just missed some vital information or anyone else knows when this laptop will be released [link] [comments]

Motherboard +cpu/gpu questiond Posted: 12 Sep 2018 12:11 PM PDT I have an old hp pavilion notebook 17 with a broken screen and still has windows 8 that i'm planning to fix. It has an intel i3-4000m and wanted to see if I could upgrade to an i3-8100 with the same motherboard. Is there any way I can upgrade the graphics too? Or would I need a completely new motherboard etc? Maybe I can put in a ryzen 3 2200g? [link] [comments]
Samsung Notebook 9 needs a new battery Posted: 12 Sep 2018 11:52 AM PDT I'm not exactly sure if this is the best place to ask this, since I try to look through and find the most appropriate place to ask. My laptop (NP900X5L-K02US) won't charge beyond 1% recently and a message from my computer suggests replacing the battery. However, I'm not sure what battery I need. I called samsung support, and the representative was somewhat helpful. I got the link to their parts website, but I'm not sure if this is the battery I need. My more real question is do you think its safe for me to keep using my laptop until I can get enough money to replace the battery? I would prefer not to ruin my laptop since I wouldn't have even close to enough money to get a new one. [link] [comments]
suggestions for a laptop to study computational engineering Posted: 12 Sep 2018 11:16 AM PDT Hey! I'm looking for a laptop to study computational engineering( my current laptop already starting to tackle at "simple" stuff), but I also do some gaming ( light, for example civ6). My price point is about 1000€, but I always can flex a little I guess. I'd like it to be fairly compact. The weight doesn't matter to me a lot, but I'd like my laptop screen to be ~~15" and have slim bezels. (Laptops similar to the razer blade I guess?)Thanks for the suggestions. [link] [comments]

My laptop gpu stays on base clock even at stable temps in some games?! Posted: 12 Sep 2018 10:22 AM PDT So I have a i7 7700hq with a 1050 ti max q gpu, I tested several games and programs , in some of them like fortnite, I get only 1152 clock speed on the gpu, even with really good temps like in the 60s; same with Furmark, the problem with that is it's base clock. HP Pavilion G7-1227nr Motherboard Compatibility Posted: 12 Sep 2018 10:02 AM PDT Short Version I am seeking information on compatibility of motherboards within the HP Pavilion G7-1000 series. Specifically, I want to know if the G7-1227nr is compatible with the HP motherboard P/N 650199-001. The original motherboard was HP P/N 655990-001 (as best as I can tell). Long Version My wife's laptop was beginning to run slowly. It never was fast, but it was starting to become a problem for her. I decided to look into her computer and determine if it was going to be more cost effective to buy a new laptop or upgrade hers (where I could) and ride it out for several more years. I was able to get replacement parts for upgrading it pretty cheap so I decided on the latter. I purchased an SSD, an extra 4GB ram chip, a new battery, new fan, and a faster CPU. I purchased the components based off of an HP service manual for the G7, but did not realize that it did not cover the G7-1227nr configuration. I was able to use the SSD, RAM, battery, and fan, but the motherboard has a soldered CPU (side note: it also does not have a GPU). I began looking today into getting a socketted motherboard that is compatible with the CPU that I bought, and I found the 650199-001 which I can get used for a reasonable price and is shown in the service manual above. This motherboard has the additional benefit of having a soldered GPU with 1 GB of memory. As far as I can tell in pictures and in the service manual above, all the screws are in the same place and are the same diameter (a few may differ in length, but I have a screw kit so that's not an issue). The service manual also showed all of the cables in the same location. Is there something that I am missing, or is this motherboard compatible? To clarify, I am not seeking advice on whether or not the cost is worth it. I am just looking to find out if it is compatible. Also, if someone could redirect me to a definitive source where I can find this information, I would appreciate that greatly. [link] [comments]

Lenovo Ideapad 330 with Ryzen 5 2500U Posted: 12 Sep 2018 05:29 AM PDT Hi guys! Just came across this amazing (potentially new?) offer for a Ryzen 5 2500U laptop: https://www.newegg.com/global/at/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834850877. Reviews are positive so far, but I am not sure, if the reviewers are aware of the performance that could be gained. The problem is that Lenovo f****d it up (again....looking at you 720s...): abysmal power management, to the point of throttling the APUs performance down 41% (!). source I only recently bought the Ideapad 320 with a i5 8250U in it (408€ which is about 150€ cheaper than the next laptop featuring this CPU). The fans spins relatively loudly and frequently, yet randomly. I don't know if this could be fixed via a BIOS or driver update. I don't want to do that now since I want to be able to return it in case a better offer comes round. And lo and behold, a seemingly better offer HAS come around! The Ryzen 5 2500U would be perfectly suited to my needs, so I am asking myself these questions:
Would be great to hear what you guys think! [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Sep 2018 09:05 AM PDT Im looking to buy a new laptop, and my budget for it is 1600 US dollars (the cheaper the better). With a quick search, I figured out that what I should expect with this budget is a i7 7700/8750, obviously preferring the 8th gen for a small price difference, and a 1060. Other than that, it would be nice to have a HDD+SSD (at least 256gb). For the build part, either 15" and 17" are fine, and being big and relatively heavy isnt really a problem, as would prefer it to be quiet and cool over small. Thanks in advance for any help! Is HP 250 G6 @ $359.99 a good deal for light school work? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 09:04 AM PDT I am currently looking for another laptop that is cheap, light, and good enough for school work. I have found the HP 250 G6 fit my criteria. I was thinking of getting a thinkpad but this seems like it suits my needs. Edit:How does this T430 look? I am not sure if it is wise buying an ebay laptop though Should I get it or is there a better deal? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Sep 2018 09:00 AM PDT I was looking for a modestly powerful laptop for a price around 800-1000$. Already searched for some but I would like to know what some of you guys think is the best, for that price range. P.S. Which is generally better an Asus or a MSI? [link] [comments]
Ultrabay on T430: Sata 2 or Sata 3? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 04:58 AM PDT I would like to install an ssd in the ultrabay with the help of a caddy. Will that ultrabay connection give SATA 3 speeds? Otherwise I can go for an ssd in the msata slot that I am sure is a SATA 2 connection. [link] [comments]

AN515-42-R5GT/acer nitro 5 VS Lenovo Legion or any other budget gaming laptop Posted: 12 Sep 2018 06:16 AM PDT Hey guys, I need some professional help choosing a laptop to buy. I can't overclock my CPU. Can my laptop's CPU be upgraded? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 04:56 AM PDT I have a 4-year old Samsung ATIV notebook that has 1.6GHz of CPU speed (Haswell Core i5), 8GB of RAM, and 111GB Solid State Drive. I want to increase the GHz of the laptop, and I wonder if it could be upgraded to a same CPU with a higher GHz (my laptop can be increased to 2.3GHz). My BIOS doesn't have the option to increase the clock speed. But a Haswell CPU's are old, so I doubt it. Nevertheless, I had my outer casing replaced this year, at a local Samsung repair center in South Korea (I live in South Korea). Even if it could be upgraded, does it need to be cooled? I'm pretty positive that my laptop would need it, despite the fact I may NOT need to play games. The reason I want to upgrade my CPU speed is, I need to use Adobe Photoshop, and the computer's a bit laggy. I used to do my school assignments using Adobe Photoshop on this laptop, and I may need it for other purposes (such as modifying my photos of my flowers- I snap pictures of wildflowers). Other than that, every program works smoothly here. [link] [comments]
Mega confusion: i7-th gen vs. i7-8th gen vs. i5-8th gen Posted: 12 Sep 2018 04:23 AM PDT So my local electronics chain is running a mega clearance deal. I have narrowed down my laptop choice to these two: Lenovo Ideapad 510: i7-7500 (7th gen). 8 GB RAM. 1 TB HDD+128 GB SSD. Nvidia 4 GB graphics. Backlit keyboard. US$ 660 HP 15-BS129NE: i7-8550 (8th gen). 16 GB RAM. 2 TB HDD (No SSD). Radeon 4 GB graphics. US$ 825 Both are 15.6 inch screens. I am not a fan of HP but the specs are hard to miss. The only thing that is a downer for Lenovo is the old-gen processor. Hence I am thinking if I should look at 8th gen i5 processor? Or choose among the two above? Please help out! Edit: my usage will be for daily work i.e. web browsing, MS Word and Excel, photo editing for my two websites (blogs), occasional video editing (GoPro videos), format conversion/compression of videos etc. I do plan on using Photoshop sometime in future. No gaming or AutoCAD usage for me. [link] [comments]
My experience with the MSI GS65 Posted: 11 Sep 2018 05:14 PM PDT I purchased the GS65-037 SKU (1070 Max-Q, 512gb SSD, 16gb ram) from Best Buy for 2000USD over the weekend. Here are my thoughts. Build Quality/Chassis I was pretty worried about the build quality after seeing a lot of reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The build quality was straight up excellent - very little deck flex even when pressing very hard, very little lid flex, no creaking/cracking either. I basically had none of the problems many reviewers seemed to have had. I guess I either got really lucky or it has improved with the later revisions. As a student it is a little bigger (width/length wise) than I'd like but it still fits in my bag and the weight is very reasonable. Keyboard/trackpad + Display The keyboard was excellent and responsive (maybe a little soft). The RGB software and customization options are excellent. The trackpad is great as well but I agree with Dave2D's review that the acceleration is a little bit off. The display, subjectively, is great. It's bright, viewing angles are great, and the 144hz refresh rate is awesome (I've only ever used 60hz screens before). Performance/Temps/Noise Performance is also excellent, as expected of the hardware. 240-300fps in CS:GO, 200 fps in LoL, solid high 50s-60fps in Witcher 3 ultra (hairworks off). Interesting note-RAM speeds were advertised as 2400mhz but both CPU-Z and HWInfo reported 2666mhz. Stock temperatures are hot. At idle it sits at 50C, under heavy load (The Witcher 3, Prime95, XTU Stress Test) it reaches 90C and throttles. The highest I've seen the GPU temperature is 78C (The Witcher 3). I was able to undervolt in XTU -150mv which dropped CPU temps about 6C across the board. Fan noise is subjectively excellent. Completely silent at idle, fans spin up occasionally at low volume under some lighter loads. Under less intensive gaming loads it remains quite quiet and even under full load the fans are pretty good for a gaming laptop. Battery Life Battery life is relatively in line with other reviews. At half brightness in light workloads (browsing, videos) it lasts 5-6 hours. If Windows wasn't so shitty at reporting the remaining battery life I'd have a better idea (I haven't done any battery benchmarks). Overall It's a fantastic laptop. Its weakest point from other reviews was the build quality but I had zero build quality problems. The only other complaint is the flipped motherboard (I plan on repasting soon). But if you are on the fence I would definitely recommend buying it. [link] [comments] |
