I'm just looking to basically reinstall Windows afresh and remove as much as I possibly can from programs I'm certain I won't need.

Any suggestions on how to best do this?

500 days of support left for Windows 7

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:19 AM PDT

September 1 2018 marks 500 days until end of support. What are your plans for Windows 7 migration? Are you going to update to 10, another operating system or stay after the deadline? I plan to keep one laptop running 7 for nostalgia purposes and upgrade the rest.

Can I leave Win7 on the HHD when I install 8.1 on my new SSD, and be able to dual boot?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 01:49 PM PDT

I'm trying to update my wife's PC a little. Although her Dell runs on Win7, it came with a disk for 8.1 (it's been a few years). She's afraid to change OS's but I thought this might help her transition.

I replaced my motherboard and now my windows will not activate. Just an unhappy and soon to be former loyal customer.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:50 PM PDT

I'm trying to do my homework and the unactivated version of windows is really slow and buggy...it's distracting me and I already have ADD...through my digging around I was able to determine that I had a different version of windows on my previous motherboard and because I reactivated my updates simultaneously with the new MB, windows now thinks that my copy isn't legit. This is BS, and I went through all of trouble shooting multiple times in every possible way. It came down to me having to contact a real person for support, but the guy was a complete jerk to me for no reason and basically told me to buy a new product key then hung up very quickly. I didn't really even have time to fully explain my situation. I have about 9 registered devices with windows on them. I literally have $50 cash and just a few $ in my bank account so it looks like I won't be getting to use my PC for any multi tasking, with any CPU intensive programs or without the extra risk of malware until I get my student refund check.

I've always been a big fan of Microsoft over Apple, but with me being such a loyal customer for so many years and then to be kicked while I'm obviously down(don't even have $100 for the key), I am starting to wonder if there is another alternative out there. Since I'm majoring in computer science (I've had one week of school under this major or else I'd probably have figured it out by now) I feel like soon enough I'll find a different solution.

Has anyone else had a bad experience with Microsoft? Does anyone know a work around to my situation? I have no product key apparently but I know that my windows 10 was legit and worked with my last motherboard for 7 months.

    Movies & TV Color Error

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 05:31 PM PDT

So I am trying to watch a video in Movies & TV and the colors are off. Colors for everything else are fine. I have two monitors and when I move the window to the other monitor the colors are fine. If I put the video half way in between the screens the colors are the same between both screens but will switch based on how far I move the window over.

Windows 10 PRO (1708) license key

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 04:39 PM PDT

I want to buy a License for Windows 10 Professional. Will it work on my PC with this Windows 10 build 1708? No, i don't want to update it, i've been using it for months and its stable and working fine for me.

-How many time can i use the same license i bought on the same computer? If something happens and i need to re-install my OS, can i use my license again or do i have to buy another?

-How much time does one Windows 10 pro license lasts? Do they have expiration time?

Rubning Windows 8 wanting to upgrade 10 but with a fresh install

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 08:45 AM PDT

    Hello All,

As the title says, currently running Windows 8 and want to preform an upgrade to 10 but I want to do a clean install. So should I upgrade first to 10 via upgrade route and than do a wipe and reinstall of Windows 10? or can I jump straight into windows 10 via clean install and would windows still be activated?

    Thanks

    windows without borders.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:48 AM PDT

Is there a feature where I can remove the borders off a window.

It would have a shadow below it.

For example chrome would look like this:

How do I stop using OneDrive for my libraries?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 12:07 AM PDT

I just had to do a fresh install of Windows, and I mistakenly left the "use OneDrive" option checked. Now all my libraries are in the \OneDrive folder, and some cannot be moved:

Can't move the folder because there is a folder in the same location that can't be redirected. Access is denied.

It also named them using the wrong language. Can I delete this crap and make OneDrive go back to just being an app, like before?

Issue installing Visual Studio Community 2017

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:38 AM PDT

Hi, I'm trying to install Visual Studio Community 2017 but every time I try to run the installer it crashes, no error. Tried googling this issue, nothing really helped, then I thought it might be an issue with the .net framework, but when I try to run any .net framework installer, same thing happens. No logs, no errors, no warnings, nothing. I only have Windows Defender no other antivirus or firewall. This issue seems to be related with windows installers that I assume first try to download the program, but they just crash immediately.

    Anyone had something similar happen?

EDIT: After snooping a bit, this seems to work, I don't understand how or why.
