Is there a way to put an MLA Header in Wordpad?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 07:28 PM PDT

As the title says, is this possible? My teacher doesn't use Google Docs, but I have an essay to turn in that requires MLA format. I can't figure out this last part for Wordpad if it's even possible, and it's the only program I have really.

Surface pro with 8.1 won't boot

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 11:46 AM PDT

I have a surface pro that won't boot. I tried to do a system refresh but it says there isn't enough free space available. It wants me to free up space and try again. So I go into the recovery command prompt, but it isn't showing any files in any of the folders. For example, the program file folders are empty. It only shows the public user (doesn't show my user profile). Any thoughts on why? Or what I can do?

Windows 10 Pro Intune Deployment success?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 12:08 PM PDT

Anyone had any luck getting devices to boot and pull down settings from Intune correctly? I am following this document here (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/enrollment-autopilot) and not being successful. I have the correct user license assigned to me, the device shows up in the Intune portal as 'Assigning' under profile status but no branding shows up (as defined in Azure AD) on the device and it does not appear to be picking up settings I define in my profile.

    Broken Slate Indicator

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 03:13 PM PDT

I have an HP laptop that seems to have a broken slate indicator. It always acts as if it is folded back into it's convertible state. The touch-screen works fine, but the keyboard and mouse are disabled.

I can uninstall the GPIO Laptop or Slate Indicator driver and the PC works for one restart but as soon as that driver is re-installed it disables the keyboard and mouse again. The "disable device" option is grayed out for this particular device.

I tried using group policy to block the installation of the HardwareID, but it didnt work, Windows just overrides it, probably for the same reason as the grayed out disable button.

Anybody know another fix? I don't give a crap about tent mode or convertible mode anyway, I'm fine just setting it to laptop mode 100% of the time but don't know of another way.

Ethernet 2 doesn't have a valid IP configuration Windows 10

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 02:53 PM PDT

Ok so I know there are lots of posts about this but hear me out:

    windows 10/i5-4570/760GTX/16GB

A few days ago my PSU dies.

I remove the old one and install a new one.

I boot my computer which starts normally no error messages nothing EXCEPT that my ethernet now says "unidentified network" and running the troubleshooter returns the error in the title of this post.

Ok maybe my cable is bad - grab my laptop, disable the wifi on it, and plug in my cable - BOOM internet is up in 60 seconds.

Ok maybe the ethernet port on my MOBO is bad - i get a new pci ethernet card, install it, nope, same unidentitified network and troubleshooter again returns the "doesn't have a valid IP configuration" error.

Ok, take a usb wifi dongle and fire it in - BOOM internet in 60 seconds again.

Ok so i try everything i can find on the internet (now using my usb wifi dongle to connect) to fix this issue - netsh resets and ipconfigs the 20 reddit posts about this already, reinstall drivers, remove and reinstall hardware - all that shit.

    Nothing has fixed it.

Every other device in my house is running fine off the modem including 2 laptops, 2 cable boxes, 2 phones etc.

I'm told that reinstalling windows might be the only way to fix this but I thought i'd try asking here before I go there.

Anyone ever figure something like this out?

    Office activation error 0x80070057

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 10:27 AM PDT

I have had Office installed for a few years now through my uni, its worked fine up until I installed a new SSD and moved my boot drive over. Now it constantly makes me log into my uni associated Microsoft account and after a bit it spits out the error 0x80070057. I've tried reinstalling multiple times, deactivating the device on my account each time. I have used the fix it tool to uninstall each time to remove everything, I have even gone as far as to manually release the product key through the cmd.

When I run OSPP.vbs /dstatus it does say there is an error, something along the lines of the product key does not match the product licence. Though this is strange as I have Office 365 from my uni also installed on my laptop and it works perfectly fine.

    Any suggestions?

Second USB 3.0 port isn't working

    Posted: 23 Sep 2018 09:56 PM PDT

This is odd. I have two USB ports connected to the motherboard.

One port works. The other doesn't.

I've tried switching the connectors with a new one -- and the problem still persists, which leads me to think this is Windows problem instead.

    How do I fix this?

How do you stop auto upload of unused files to OneDrive in the new build being released?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2018 10:59 PM PDT

I am very concerned about the feature that is coming with Octobers update (quite a few features tbh from what I am hearing)

I like to manage my files on my own without Windows auto uploading to OneDrive and I have a very worrying feeling that it is going to effect alot of my files.

Also is there a fix to stop Windows Store from downloading apps that I do not want.

If it is not possible, is there an official complaints procedure?

I have OpenSSH installed, but I am unable to SSH into my computer. I tried allowing port 22 through the firewall, etc

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 10:39 AM PDT

I basically just want to be able to SSH so I can run a script remotely to lock my computer/do whatever, really. I tried allowing port 22 in the firewall options for inbound and outbound, but to no avail. Is it a different port?

    Windows file system auditing problem

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 10:35 AM PDT

I need to audit all file+folder creation in my user profile's TEMP folder, so I added the auditing security attributes as shown at below screenshots.

    https://i.imgur.com/YJLZPWP.png

    https://i.imgur.com/OKyECLT.png

Note: the file+folder deletion auditing attributes are for testing only.

The problem is that, all file/folder creations are not logged. However, file/folder deletion are logged just fine.

My system is Windows 7 SP1, BTW. I use this same method when I was still using Windows XP, and file/folder creations are logged.

Group Policy settings are already set up. i.e.:

    • Audit: Force audit policy subcategory settings on Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options is set to Enabled.

    • Audit File System on Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Advanced Audit Policy Configuration > System Audit Policies > Object Access is set to Configure the following audit events with Success checkbox ticked.

Does xinput officially support 8 controllers now or not?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 09:26 AM PDT

For a few years now microsoft has been advertising the ability to connect 8 xbox one controllers to a single PC. AFAIK though, there still isn't a single game or application that supports 8 xinput controllers, and I still see devs recently saying that 4 controller maximum is a limitation of xinput

From today, nearly all my apps gone blurred as hell...

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 08:05 AM PDT

I don't know if there was an update or whatever, but from today, most of my apps (Installers, Notepad++, InfranView, Arduino IDE, Cheat Engine, EVEN Visual Studio 2017, the Task Manager the right-click->properties (on any file) menu and the Control Panel too, plus many other) gone totally blurred. It's literally huring my eyes.

Is there a way to disable every single auto DPI bullshit in Windows for every single current, old and future EXE, MSI, BAT, COM and whatever the hell I did/do/will run in my lifetime?

This is like the third case in the lifetime of Windows 10 when the idiotic DPI settings fuck up everything in my (and probably every) FHD screen.

How can I make windows slide in like Mac OS on Windows 10?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 07:01 AM PDT

Hiya, thanks for clicking. Was using a friend's Mac the other day and one thing really stood out to me, even though I really don't like much of Apple's features. :) When you minimize/maximize a windows, it "slides" or "warps" up out of the taskbar with a really neat animation. Is there any program/skin that implements this animation on Windows 10? Thank you so much, have an awesome day guys!
