Choosing a low price Android with a good camera - budget range or older model?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:10 PM PDT

I'm looking for a cheap phone to bring with me on a trip overseas, and I'm trying to weigh up whether I should buy a budget phone such as a Moto x4 (which I can get for around $350 AUD) or an old phone like the Google Pixel 1 (on sale for $250 AUD).

I'm coming from using a Pixel 2 for work and S9+ for personal use, so I understand that there will be quite a few downgrades in either of these models. However, I'd really just like a cheap android, that's decent for travel and in worst case scenario if my camera is stolen/destroyed/unavailable I can switch to the phone and still be *satisfied* with the image quality.

Any other suggestions would be great, but at the moment I think I might lean towards the Pixel 1 as the camera is still phenomenal!

    Galaxy S6 being buggy

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 09:49 PM PDT

Whenever i plug in my Galaxy S6, it'll either charge slowly, or not at all. its only when i push down on the cord near to where the cord plugs into the phone, will it charge correctly, but even when i do this, the screen will glitch out(as in become a lot darker and the blue light filter looks to be set at like 200%) and will turn into landscape mode for a second, before returning to normal. Has anyone else experienced something like this? or have any tips to help? I would greatly appreciate it

    Backing up "Favorites" gallery folder

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:30 PM PDT

I've had the pleasure of migrating all of my "stuff" from one android to another on several occasions. I've been using Samsung smart switch which has been doing a good job on the whole. One thing it misses entirely is recreating the favorites folder in gallery. Sure all the pictures are moved over but all the pictures I spent two years noting were the best of the bunch are just mixed in with the rest now. Makes you not want to bother putting in the effort going forward.

I searched here on reddit and also across the web and got nothing.

Ultimately my solution was simple. Before u do the migration go into ur favorites folder. Select all the favorited pictures... Menu... Add tag. Then add a tag like "favorites." now all. Ur favorites will have that tag. Do the migration. Search for the tag. Scroll through and like them all again.... They will now be in your new phones favorites folder.

I wanted to add this here because the interweb seemed to be devoid of a solution... Cheers.

Is there a way to sync my Facebook friends information to my phone's contacts?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 05:27 PM PDT

There was an option a few years ago that I remember you would essentially just press a button and then it would take all of your Facebook friends and put them in your contacts. I've searched around to find ways to do this but all of the results are just talking about syncing profile pictures to contact pictures which isn't what I want.

Where do you guys buy cheap older phones S7/S8/Note8?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:55 PM PDT

I've been looking at the Note 9 and so far the best deal I've found is buying it outright with T-Mobile through Costco at $820. I have a crappy Samsung J7 which has a trade in value of $20 so the trade-in deals don't really work for me. I plan to buy it with T-Mobile then switch back to Metro PCS afterwards. The guy I talked to at Costco said that was possible?

Anyways, I've thought about buying an older phone because while I'd like something a lot better than J7 I'm sure an older phone would work. However, it seems like the old phones still go for $600 - $700 on Amazon still. Seems like I should just pay the extra and get the latest? Where do you guys shop for older phones that aren't sketchy and have warranty?

What health/medical apps do you recommend?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 09:04 AM PDT

I already use Google Fit, Heart Beat Monitor, Wysa, Ada, and BMI Calculator. I particularly like Wysa and Ada for their use of AI. Are there any other cool tools you know of that aren't in my list?

No notification icons in status bar on Android 8 lock screen?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:36 PM PDT

I just got an Honor 7x and I have been frustrated with how I'm getting/seeing notifications. In particular, when I get notifications, their respective icons for which app they came from are not showing up on the lock screen in the top left like they did for my last phone. I have to unlock my phone and then the icons will show up, kinda inconvenient when I just want to know if the notification might be important.

How to tell if a device supports USB OTG?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 09:50 PM PDT

I saw that you can download an app to your device that will tell you if it is supported. I have downloaded two apps, one says it is supported and the other says it isn't.

However, what I'm REALLY wanting to know is, looking for a tablet, how do I know if it supports USB OTG if I haven't purchased it yet?

Something that I always liked in other keyboard is that function.

Specially if you speak portuguese and this is a very important feature on our vocabulary.

I know that is still on beta but will be the perfect language to increase and help the final product.

[ASUS Zenpad 8.0][Android 7.0] Not able to move apps from internal storage to external storage?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 09:05 PM PDT

My girlfriend got this new tablet a few days ago, and I figured it would be the same way to move apps from internal to the micro SD card as it is on my Galaxy S7, but the option never shows up.

Ive looked it up, and most places say to adopt the SD card as internal storage, but that option also doesn't come up. The only option is to Format, and that did nothing and didn't have any 'Format as Internal' options.

Any help is appreciated! I can get any more information that is needed.

    *HELP* Google apps not working

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 08:05 PM PDT

Don't know if this is the right sub but.. Google Services such as YouTube(i.e. app, website runs just fine), Play Store and AMP sites are not working AT ALL. EVERYTHING ELSE seems to be working just fine. Google search and Chrome works fine but doesn't load any AMP site.

I'm using the Galaxy S8+ and this problem is only occurring with my device, every other device is working completely fine.

Please help,I don't think I'll be able to pass the day without YouTube.

Edit- YouTube videos load for the first 5 seconds of opening the app but that's it, and after that only the titles and blank thumbnails will load. Same is the case with Play Store, titles only load but I'm able to download apps.

What charger to buy for what phone?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 08:02 PM PDT

I'm sorta lost in the world of chargers... I know that the Anker brand chargers are well respected, but I don't know which one to buy for what. I currently use a galaxy S8, but will be upgrading to a Pixel 2 in a few months. Is there a charger that will work for both of them? How do I know which charger is good for what? I don't care about fast charging, I leave that turned off. For my micro USB cable phones, like the S7 and HTC One, I was able to just use any generic charger, including the Anker one from Amazon. Now it seems a lot more confusing...

Shortcut to google home reminders view ??

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:59 PM PDT

I cannot figure out a quick way to access Google reminders. I know reminders can be accessed through various g apps. Inbox, keep, Cal individually and proposedly a central space somewhere in Google home, assistant, and/or the regular Google app. But I was perusing through the Google home app and found the reminders section in settings. It's an exaustive list of all reminders, and I noticed how Google is reorganizing the settings in Google home to match a more voice-oriented command system. Shopping lists and reminders are being organized in such a way that voice access will be able to better identify and distribute the inevitable tide of such Todo, remind, and purchase commands and requests we are and will make. So far just observation, but this is where my issue comes in.

There is no quick way to get to the reminders list in Google home!!

I'd like to pop in there every so often to edit, create new, move, delete my reminders. This would be more efficient or at least more central than performing each of those tasks for each individual app that houses reminders; Inbox, keep, and Cal. Testing the assistant I said "show me my reminders" and it does, but it's not all of my reminders just the first 15 or so and it doesn't link me to the actual list in Google home, it doesn't link to anything. What? It takes fully 5 touches to manually nav to the reminders section in Google home. What? I looked for a shortcut, there isn't one. I found this article (https://www.droid-life.com/2015/12/17/179332/) which evidences that Google at some point thought it might be helpful to provide a shortcut like I'm suggesting. Can anyone confirm, reproduce, or clone this shortcut? Any other ideas to gain quick access to all reminders? Would love to hear diy solutions as well; Tasker, iftt, etc.

    Thanks!

    Phone call dropping?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:08 PM PDT

Sometimes when I'm in the middle of a phone call with my girlfriend, the call goes silent for about 10 seconds then disconnects. This happens from time to time for no reason because neither of us press the power button, press end call, or the signal doesn't drop because we call right back afterwards. Anybody know why?
