Blue L.E.D. after gs8 hit water

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 08:24 PM PDT

I was out of the country and my galaxy s8 was in my pocket of my board shorts. I spaced on it and jumped off a dock and swam around for a bit. The phone was in about 15 foot saltwater for probably 20 to 30 minutes and nothing seemed off about it when i retrieved it and tested apps, screen response, charging(after drying thouroghly) amd camera. On the flifht home i had tossed it in power saving because it was about a 15 hour flight and i use my phone allot. Sometime in the airport though a blue notification led appeared and has not gone away. I have rebooted and soft reset my phone. Battery life seems normal, everything is working and i have turned notifications on and off, changed app permissions and reset default permissions. Additionally of tbe the phone is off, if you single press the power button the led comes on. Any help is greatly appreciated

Any one know a way to get the feature in my rom (CosmicOS Oreo) for addison?

    Cheers

    Samsung Apps necessary?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 05:13 PM PDT

So this might be a dumb question and I might be a bit paranoid. I have a Note 8 for the screen size. When I got it I read the permissions for the Samsung account and don't like/trust the information they want access to. The phone has worked fine except recently it keeps spamming me a notification that my Samsung session has expired. Sometimes it will do it 10 times in succession.....which is annoying.

If I uninstall most of the Samsung apps will this stop the phone from working or can I do this and install apps to replace them?

I sold my iPhone 8 and got a Galaxy S9 but I'm kinda confused since I've never used Android so I'll be visiting here a lot. Also, my first question.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 12:36 PM PDT

When I come home from school I like to take a 20 minute nap so I can just say "Hey Siri, set a timer for 20 minutes" to my phone which is sitting on the table, it'll set the timer and I'll go plant my face in the pillow.

Another scenario is I'm sitting and studying and I have a sudden thought so I can just say "Hey Siri, remind to me to check how much a monkey can bench press at 6 PM" to my phone sitting out of my arm's reach.

Now here are my problems. I used BxActions (or whatever it's called) to remap the Bixby button to G-Assistant since I didn't sign up for a Samsung account but the experience isn't going as smoothly for me.

I have a fingerprint + passcode lock on my phone and whenever I say "Hey Google" to my phone it just beeps and asks me to unlock the phone to continue, it doesn't let me set a reminder without unlocking the phone. The workaround was to use a method to unlock the phone using my voice but that isn't smooth either, with Siri I could just say "Hey Siri set reminder for X at Y PM" and it'll set it, no breaks. With Google Assistant I have to pause and wait, "Hey Google" (phone opens) "Set a reminder for X at Y PM" (asks for confirmation) "Yes". You see what I mean? There's too much friction to doing simple tasks like these.

I wanted to ask for a proper workaround and if I should consider using Bixby if it will solve this problem. I never really use the voice assistant for anything other than this.

Also, is there a way to make Google Assistant integrate with Keep, the reminders I set on Assistant are in the Reminders app and not in the Keep app, is there a workaround to this?

Sorry for this vomit of text, I hope it's understandable.

    Galaxy s7 awful battery life.

    Recommend a DTMF app

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 08:36 PM PDT

When I am next to a land line, I used to use Dialer One to generate the dial tones of my contacts.

Now with Oreo and newer, the app doesn't work well.

Is there an app that can do this? Bonus if it is a Pie compatible phone app. TIA

How to manage running apps and tasks in Oreo?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 02:45 PM PDT

So, every time I look for something like a task manager for Android, I get a heap of articles saying "you don't need a task manager for Android anymore". Well, how do we manage tasks then?

I'm trying to pinpoint the various resource hogs in the system, work out why when using some games or apps why background apps, like music players will be killed off. Is it the foreground app using all the resources or the background one, or a 3rd seperate app, and why does it happen across a variety of apps.

I've tried simple system monitor and a couple of other apps, none really show you what's going on, beyond what you can already see. Yes, the CPU is in use, I can tell by the burning sensation in my hand, and yes, I do realise my phone is hot...

So how do we do this? Surely developers need a way to monitor their apps CPU and RAM usage, how's that done?

Downloading Fortnite with Family Link activated

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 04:46 PM PDT

Hey guys I'm trying to download Fortnite for my nephew but since he's young he has family link on his phone. I can't figure out how to enable the option to download from unknown sources and Google isn't really giving me any answers. His mom is okay with him downloading Fortnite btw so no problems there and I have access to the Family link to make changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read this far.

Keep randomly getting "No Sim card installed" reboot usually fixes it for a day. Why does this keep happening? Sprint GS8+

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:42 PM PDT

I've taken the sim card out and cleaned the contacts with alcohol, phone is about a year old but in near mint condition. I take very good care of it and it's never been dropped. Its happening more and more frequently and I'm losing my data connection randomly because of it.

    Do sim cards go bad?

How do i make the screen table your less battery

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:38 PM PDT

I had eBay I thought was a power draining background (a set of repeating gifs) that too up 70 percent of my battery by the end of a few days. I didn't have a problem with it but I did want to stay treating my battery a bit better so I changed it to a still photo that's mostly black and it still tables up 30 percent and is not even half way yet. (60 percent theoretical if I were to drain the battery) why does my battery use up so much battery

Android noob: How can I disable location services in google play but keep it for HERE maps or other apps

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 04:38 PM PDT

Work forced me to get a new phone so I got my S8 about 5 months ago and now it's my daily driver, but I'm not a big Google fan and I'm banned from apple for a few thousand years. I use an old spam Yahoo account for the store and my work email for my MS and Samsung apps. I use my phone for contactless pay, OneNote, Office 365, taking a ton of pictures for work and I'll need to use my phone GPS for several global trips coming up.

I really like HERE maps and I don't use google map / navigation at all. I just downloaded HERE maps and it says I have to enable GPS and location services, ok, I went to Connections> Location > Turn on location > and Here Maps works. I went to disable location for everything else including Google Play Service and it says

Google Play services is a provider of location services for this device. Location access can be modified from the location settings

You hit 'Location setting' and it takes you back to turn off or on location services for all apps.So it's an endless loop. Is this a bug or a conscious effort by google to say 'screw you, we're getting your location data whether you want us to have it or not.' I checked my google location information and it doesn't show any data and I'd like to keep it that way

Are these the options / features I can get when jail breaking a phone? Is there a setting i'm missing, or do I just have to bow down to the Google overlords?

[SAMSUNG GALAXY Users] Samsung Cloud Backup Restore, How does it work?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 02:12 PM PDT

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6. I used to have a Galaxy S3 back in 2015 before I got the Galaxy S6. I was just checking my phone backups. I didn't realised that it still got my Galaxy S3 backups which is awesome! I can read my texts between me and my beloved father (who passed away of cancer last year). However, what would happen if I hit restore on that particular backup? I also have my current backup, if I hit restore on the Galaxy S3 backup, will it replace/overwrite my current stuff and texts OR will it merge together with my current texts I have?? How does it work?

How do I change the icon for a Chrome favourites shortcut?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 09:36 PM PDT

To expand a little further: I'm using Action Launcher with a custom icon pack, I have everything looking the way I want except for 2 things.

    1. I have a couple of shortcuts on my home screens that open work related stuff. Is there a way I can change the icons for these Chrome created shortcuts?

    2. I've also got some Google Drive widgets that link to specific documents, is there a way I can change these icons?

Maybe there's a better way to achieve the above, I'm really just wanting the above icons to match the rest of the phone icons. Any advice would be great.

    Disable system shortcuts?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 09:36 PM PDT

So in a nutshell, Google decided that the enter key means "let's go back to the home screen" so anytime I press the enter key on my physical keyboard or even worse, I scan a barcode with a barcode scanner, I'm kicked back to the home screen, rendering all my external devices unusable. Is there a way to remap these shortcuts, specifically the first ones?

Been looking for a solution for about a month and my google-fu is failing me. I am rooted on 8.1 so I'm open to using a third-party app, I just don't know of any.

Just had my Nexus 6P stolen. What should I do now to protect my data?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 07:19 AM PDT

Just had my phone stolen about an hour and a half ago. This happened in France, so it's as good as gone. My main concern now is knowing how to protect my data. I had a lock pattern but obviously that's not very secure. What are some steps I can take to secure myself?

Is there any way to remote wipe my phone?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Help with apps automatically loading photos of ads/spam photos on my Google Pixel 2 XL

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:28 AM PDT

Trust me, I've googled and read as many forums as I could because I'd imagine this would be a common issue, but I can't seem to find any help. How do I find out what apps are automatically adding spam photos/advertisements on my google photos app? And is there a permission I can turn off to get the apps to stop doing that? My camera roll turns into a dumpster of weird ads for games I've never played, as well as photos of like...random people.

    Thanks in advance!

    WiFi Authentication Issues

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 12:35 PM PDT

HELP! When I attempt to log onto WiFi networks that I have used for a long time (home and work) the WiFi status cycles between "connecting" and "saved" 3 or 4 times. Ultimately, it lands on "disabled" and I have to use LTE for data. I have taken the following steps:

    • "Forget" networks, re-enter credentials
    • Tested in Safe Mode
    • Factory reset

No improvement! The timing seem to coincide with the install of Android 9 but this might just be coincidence. Has anyone else run into this? What am I missing?

Is it possible to delete old backup of google contacts?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 03:40 PM PDT

When I go to Settings - Google - Restore Contacts, I have this screen showing of multiple backups over the years of Google Contacts. Mostly they are the same contact backups in different time. Is it possible to remove them? Taping on them only shows to restore the selected backup.

New update to apk won't install. Just want to delete old version . Anyone know how to fix?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 11:28 AM PDT

So I have this game I've been playing on my LG V20 (ok... It's a porn game. Sue me), and just downloaded a new update to it. It wouldn't update as it said "the package conflicts with an existing package of the same name". I've long since given up on just updating and keeping my saves and just want to uninstall the old version to start fresh. So I uninstalled the game as I would anything else. It no longer has an icon on my main screen. I then went into my storage, still found an entry for it under apps and clicked delete data, which I assume was my saves, but it still shows 404mb (for the app itself?) With no option to remove it entirely. So I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone know how to completely wipe the game from my phone?

Google/YouTube: How can I block a single ad source?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 03:05 PM PDT

I already asked this over at /r/YouTube but that sub is unfortunately completely useless. I've had awesome help from you guys in the past, so I'm really hoping someone here can help.

First off, I don't mind seeing ads, it really doesn't bother me at all and I like to drop a few pennies in the hat for channels I enjoy. So an ad blocker isn't what I'm looking for.

But there's one bloody ad for a mobile game that literally shows up on every 2nd or 3rd video I watch. It's incredibly annoying because I couldn't be less interested. I'm not even going go name the game because I won't give them even the slightest bit of free exposure.

I've set my Google ad preferences to avoid gaming ads, I check and update my ad list regularly, I ALWAYS select the "Don't show this ad" option when the ad shows up, nothing helps.

I can only imagine the assholes behind the game have tagged it in as many unrelated categories as they can so their ad sneaks through even though I've "blacklisted" all gaming/entertainment ads in my preferences.

I've even gone as far as to find the YouTube channel that hosts their videos and blocked them.

Nothing helps, can anyone please recommend a way to completely block just one ad source from showing up?
