Black box instead of emails, Gmails and in-app content. Posted: 23 Sep 2018 07:24 PM PDT I've benn having this issue the past couple of days or so. Basically, instead of the normal content showing up in an email, or in Gmail or inside an app it will be a black box instead. Thinking it's an issue with HTTP not displaying correctly through Chrome I have cleared all data for Chrome and Canary. I've also cleared all data for email., Gmail and a couple of other apps. On top of that I've completely removed Chrome and Canary and reinstalled. Nothing has made a difference. Running an LG V30+ on stock. No custom ROM, not rooted. Please help as right now I can't view many emails and a ton of apps are useless. I've included a small gallery here showcasing the problem. [link] [comments] |
Phone Locked with Airplane Mode On Posted: 23 Sep 2018 05:26 PM PDT Hello Everyone, I changed my password this morning on my unrooted Galaxy S7, but somehow fat fingered a different password than what I thought and now I can't get past the password lock screen. I'd reset the password via my google account on the device, but I have it in airplane mode since it's a phone I only use for games and isn't my primary phone anymore. The problem is I need wifi or cellular which is fine since I can swap my sim, but even in emergency mode the phone is still in airplane mode, requiring a password to disable it...and I'm down to one attempt remaining before I loose two years worth of content. Back in the days I used ADB for testing so debugging is enabled, but is there any way to turn back on cellular or wifi to get Google communicating with the phone. I also never set up fingerprints so that's out of the question unfortunately. Also if factory reset is the only option how likely is data recovery with software such as GetDataBack? Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks! UPDATE: I was able to get it out of airplane mode by trying to make an emergency call, but when I log into google to change my password on the lock screen it says "Since you already had a lock screen set it will be used instead of the one you just set" [link] [comments] |
Gmail not loading email content Posted: 23 Sep 2018 07:25 PM PDT Hi, I haven't been able to look at emails on my phone (only on my computer) because any email that I load on the Gmail or inbox app just load a black screen. Any ideas of a fix? I already rebooted, cleared cache, and app data. [link] [comments] |

Long press the back button to kill the app? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 02:27 PM PDT Hello. Very much used to the function "Long press the back button to close the application" on MIUI, is there any way to recreate this feature? Device: OnePlus 6 ROM:Oxygen 5.1.11(Android 8.1), root. Button Mapper did not help, it only reassigns physical keys ... p.s. I know that in Android it is not necessary to completely close applications, but still this function is very necessary for me, thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2018 12:27 PM PDT So I have an HTC One M8 right now, but ever since I saw the Honor 10 I've felt like I wanted it. Now the only real negatives about phone are that it is a little laggy sometimes (typing is a little slow and laggy sometimes, and snapchat is very very laggy, but that's mostly it), and I do not really like the camera. So my question is: do you guys think the upgrade is worth it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2018 01:08 PM PDT I have it where it backups photos on cellular data and it was the free upload and not original. They're bit grainy so I'm trying to change it to original quality and on WiFi. I changed it to original but how do I reupload them? [link] [comments] |
Android P battery stats on pixel 2 Posted: 23 Sep 2018 12:19 PM PDT So I noticed that in the battery settings on Android 9 on my pixel 2 I can see something called "Full charge lasts about 11h, 30 min". Is that "real"? Like I usually charge my phone during the night and keep it plugged in at work at my desk. I have no real idea about the battery life but it does feel bad but not that bad. What does yours say? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2018 08:34 PM PDT I'm wanting to become an Android ROM creator, but I need to learn how to, and I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on how to do so? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
When i copy some FLACs to SD, it gives 0b file size Posted: 23 Sep 2018 08:32 PM PDT Doesn't matter what file explorer I do it with. Occasionally copying a folder of FLACs will fail too. On LG v20 running LOS15.1 [link] [comments] |
How to use 'do not disturb' mode to follow one of the calendars in my google calendar, not all? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 05:02 AM PDT My google calendar has one calendar called 'work' and one called 'fun'. I'd like the 'do not disturb' mode to only follow the 'work' calendar. Right now my phone is muted because I added in my 'fun' calendar that my girlfriend is gone for the weekend, which is not helpful. Either I use my calendar for work only, or I deactivate and activate the 'do not disturb mode', or I get a third party app. Can I do something else? [link] [comments] |
Android Chrome: how to remove search engines? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 08:23 AM PDT Hi all, As many of us I am using Chrome on my android phone. I would like to remove (all) search engines in the Chrome settings (but Google). Unfortunately I only find the possibility to set the default one. Background: Somehow I visited "search.aitouchpal.com" and "custom-seacrh.com" as search sites. Obviously my browser was hacked. If I google how to remove these hacks, it always states: "remove the app". Well, if it was so easy I would do that, but I never (consciously) installed such an app. I also only install apps via the play store and never from third party sites. So I would not know which app to remove. Hence my wish to remove at least the search engines from Chrome on Android. Thanks in advance for your support and proposals. [link] [comments] |
My Moto X (2013) blew up in my hands. Posted: 23 Sep 2018 06:00 PM PDT I bought this phone for my mother a few years ago as her first smartphone. She passed away since then and I used it as a security camera until a couple months ago (always plugged in). I went to reset it and started installing and updating apps while it was still plugged in and I heard a pop in my hands - the case no longer fit right and looked bent. I immediately shut it down and unplugged it. The battery expanded so much the side came apart. I tweeted about it and Moto told me to email them. Five days later, they got back to me asking me for photos and then said to send it in for further evaluation and that it'll cost me because it's out of warranty. I've read elsewhere not to send in blown up devices because the manufacturers will take it just to destroy all evidence. Should I send it in? Thank you. I attached photos of the phone and their reply: https://imgur.com/a/1bx5ALf [link] [comments] |
[HELP] Touch Input Blocked notification on my Samsung J7 Pro. Unable to use phone Posted: 23 Sep 2018 05:58 PM PDT Hi! A "touch input blocked" notification popped up this morning. As far as I can see, the proximity sensor is not blocked at all. I have lost all touch input on my phone even after a soft reset. Is there anyway I can have the touch screen working again? I'm unable to unlock the phone because it is locked by pattern. Help would be much appreciated!! [link] [comments] |
My Galaxy S9 was stolen. How did the thief still allow calls to ring but turn off data connectivity? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 11:30 AM PDT My S9 was stolen from my purse at a bar last week. When I tried calling it, calls still rang like normal and just went to voicemail. Whatsapp messages were not being delivered and the last known location on Google maps and Samsung Find My Mobile is the time and location I still had it with me at the bar. Since then, there was no network connectivity. It doesn't seem like text messages my friends sent my phone overnight went through because when I got a new SIM card the next day, I got all the texts and voicemails from overnight. How did the thief do this? Keep the phone line open for ringing but everything else disconnected? Also, I called ATT (I bought it from samsung.com unlocked though) and got the IMEI blocked. Does this mean that Find My Mobile on Samsung won't work? [link] [comments] |
Strange issue with uploads in Discord and Telegram apps Posted: 23 Sep 2018 01:31 PM PDT So I've got an awesome and fantastic issue, because it's really strange and frustrating. :) Seems something like SSL releated but I can't think what could that be. [link] [comments] |
What's slowing down android after months of use? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 07:16 AM PDT I guess installing apps add background processes which use parts of your mobile processor which makes it slower? Has this ever been investigated in-depth? [link] [comments] |
Unable to send email via Outlook Android App Posted: 23 Sep 2018 04:23 PM PDT Unable to send email via Outlook Android App My company uses gmail as their backend for email. I've successfully added my companies account to the Outlook Android app on my phone and I can receive emails, see various 'labels' or sub-folders, view the calendar, etc. However, when I try to send email I get an error. The error reads:
However, I can send email from other personal gmail accounts that I have added in Outlook. And the saved draft does not show up when I log in to my work email on my computer. I can also send emails from my computer with no trouble. I have tried deleting the app cache. I've tried rebooting my phone. I've tried to respond to various emails. I've also deleted the account and added it back again. All of which failed to resolve the problem. My phone is using Android 8.1.0 and the Outlook app is up to date with version 2.2.216 [link] [comments] |
Why does Google itself tries to hurt the performance of the older Android devices? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 08:07 PM PDT I m a fan of Rooting and modding android phones but as many apps in the store requires Google Play Services to work, I never used the without the GApps. To keep Google's footprint as minimal as possible I always use the Pico package. Yesterday while going through my drawer I found my dead Sony Xperia SP. After charging it and booting it up I realised the reason why I gave it up. It was rocking the April update of Lineage OS 15 and the Pico GApps package, and it took about 30 seconds to launch the most basic apps. I flashed the XenonHD ROM on the phone with GApps and although the installation was clean the phone's performance sucked bad. I gave up on it thinking it's a meh hardware for the time and can't perform better but then for some reason I re-flashed the same ROM but this time without the GApps. The performance of it is now absolutely amazing. No lags, the apps launch immediately and everything is buttery smooth (except the gaming, I don't blame the ROM). Tldr: Sony Xperia SP runs like shit with GApps but can run Android 8.1 Ultra smoothly without GApps. Why is Google so bad? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2018 12:31 PM PDT Hello! This is happening multiple times in one day now. Yesterday I did a factory reset hoping the issue would be fixed, but it still persists. I often use audible, and recently every few hours the sound will cut out, and there will be a distorted short burst of sound, then all audio will be gone. Meanwhile audible thinks it is still playing. This seems to correlate with me nudging the headphone plug, for instance while getting out of the car, could a short circuit be happening or ESD? The only fix I have found is to restart the phone. I first though it was audible, but it has happened on a phone call today as well. Anecdotally the phone seems "less stable" after this happens, but I don't have much more evidence or explanation. Any pointers into what I should look at next time it happens? I have the original smaller Google Pixel, with Android 9. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
why do some developers offer their app only through their website? to hide malware? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 10:10 AM PDT if it's free anyways, why don't they post it in google play store, too? is that because if they do that, google will find malware in it that the dev is trying to distribute secretly? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 12:02 PM PDT The short version is, my whole social circle is on Samsung 9 series, but my 9+ friend is still missing certain emojis when I send them. Afaik all involved handsets are up to date. We're both using Gboard and Google Messages. Is this just how it is? [link] [comments] |
Enabling USB tethering on Android devices missing the settings menu? Posted: 23 Sep 2018 03:47 PM PDT Is it possible to enable USB tethering on devices lacking the Hotspot & Tethering menu under network settings? I ask as I am trying to create a USB network between an Amazon Fire tablet and a Raspberry Pi. All help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Custom ROMs/Firmware and Security Posted: 23 Sep 2018 11:50 AM PDT Hey, I don't fully understand a few things about the various parts/pieces of software that make up an Android device, so I was hoping someone could clear it up. First of all, what exactly does a ROM contain? It is my understanding that it is the OS, so a version of stock Android that has been modified by the developer. What else is in a ROM? When I flashed a Treble rom it did some modifications to my vendor partition. What does flashing a ROM actually do to the device? Second, what is the function of the different partitions? My device has only an A partition, not A/B like some newer devices. I know that A/B partitioned devices don't have a recovery or cache partition. How does this effect how the device functions? Third, what hardware in the phone runs even when the phone is off? My phone (the OnePlus 5T), has an option for scheduling power on/off, which tells me that it either keeps a timer on while it's asleep, or it keeps track of the time. So, what hardware pieces (proprietary) are constantly running, like radios, or whatever? Fourth, what is firmware? How is firmware updated? If I flash the latest version of OxygenOS (the stock ROM for OnePlus devices), is my firmware updated? Can the firmware be updated when the phone is off? What is the significance of it? Many ROMs will require a certain firmware version. Also, is there anything like custom firmware, or is that impossible/unnecessary? So my last question involves the security of my device. If OnePlus was stealing my information and sending it to the Chinese government (not really worried, just an example), what part of the phone is doing that? Is it all on the ROM, or does it involve proprietary radios/firmware? If I flash a custom ROM, can OnePlus still gather my data for the Chinese government? Sorry this is so long. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2018 03:06 PM PDT I'd like to switch from the Samsung messaging app to the Android messaging app, but when I do I lose all the messages that I've sent, is there any way to transfer these/keep them? If possible I'd love to keep attachments as well [link] [comments] |
