Update on S7 Edge that caught fire Posted: 21 Sep 2018 12:10 PM PDT Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/9h898n/my_galaxy_s7_edge_exploded_last_night/ Samsung called me today. They explained that the reason they wanted me to remove the posts was to prevent others from making unfounded/fraudulent claims. Apparently, they've had people grab damaged Note 7 pictures from legitimate complaints on Twitter and email them pretending their phones have burned up and asking for a replacement. The lady from Samsung Morocco didn't seem to be aware that the pictures had already made it to other places. We had a friendly chat and she asked me to drop by the store to pick up an S9, no strings attached, but said it would be appreciated if I made an update on the resolution. I picked up the phone this evening. So this took some effort, but I'm glad things got sorted out. Again, thanks everyone for helping me get the problem addressed. [link] [comments]

[ SOLVED ] Finally I found a way to TOTALLY disable Bixby button. YES!!!!!! Posted: 21 Sep 2018 12:40 PM PDT The most annoying thing about all Samsung's new devices is that unnecessary Bixby button. Honestly i don't like Bixby because i think it's just not good enough to use it, BUT !!! I do like Bixby Vision it's really helpful sometimes especially when i need to extract some text from a picture, that's why I don't want to disable Bixby services totally. Yes i know that we can remap it using some third party apps like bxActions, but the problem of accidentally pressing that damn button is still there. The option to disable Bixby button is still there in the Bixby settings but these settings are just hidden, So i figured out a way to totally disable it using an app called (QuickShortcutMaker) you can download it from Google play Market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut Yes i know we still need a third party app to disable it but we need it JUST to find the hidden Bixby settings, after that you can freely delete it and forget about it forever. So here is how to DO that:
It will open the hidden Bixby sittings, under the "General options" you will see the "Bixby Key" tab on it and choose "DON'T OPEN ANYTHING". ............ Bixby button won't disturb you any more. It works perfectly for me on my note 8 !!!! [link] [comments]

GCam Tool suspended on Play Store for policy violation Posted: 21 Sep 2018 06:22 AM PDT Update Nine hours after posting on Reddit, I was contacted by Google Play team. They have agreed to reinstate the app with only change - the app icon. I have been permitted to retain both the app name and package name, which means GCam Tool is back on track. I want to sincerely thank the community here and each and every person who replied and messaged me. The last 48 hours have been tough, raising questions on my survival as an indie developer. Your words gave me the positivity and courage to keep the hopes up and finally everything has come to a satisfying end. Original Post Hi, You might remember GCam Tool, the app that, among other features, stopped selfies taken with Google Camera app from flipping. It was originally developed to fix the annoying issue of Google Camera saving portrait photos every time as 2 burst shots in subfolders. When XDA wrote about GCam Tool, it quickly became popular, reaching 100,000 downloads in a short period and the in-app purchase was bought by 2000+ users which, being an indie developer, is huge and my only source of revenue. Two days back I received an email from Google saying I violated their "impersonation policy". As a result, the app was suspended and they have asked me to change the app name and package name before resubmitting. There is no other explanation as to how it violated the policy but I am guessing Google doesn't like me using the word "GCam" in the app name. I originally wanted to name the app as Google Camera Tool but since I felt that could result in some violation, I opted for GCam Tool. I guess that didn't make much difference. What is sad is I had clearly mentioned in Play Store description from day one that the app is in no way related to Google or Google Camera app. While I can manage with a different app name, changing package name will create issues. It will essentially become a new app, which means the 2000 or so users who made the in-app purchase for pro upgrade, will lose that access. I appealed to Google to allow me to retain at least the package name, but got a vague reply that says "your app currently contains content of Google Camera". I have appealed again but I have a feeling I will probably get the same response. I even have a new version ready, that has been in testing for close to a month. It has been compiled against Android 8.0 and will bring adaptive icon as well as improved selfie detection and background monitor. But honestly, right now I don't know if it will ever see the light of the day. Being an indie developer, Play Store revenue helped me survive to a good extent. I wish I could reach an actual human being at Google so that I can plead to let me retain the package name. Instead, I feel like I am getting responses from automated bots that simply reject everything. As a small-time lone developer, I don't have any contacts at Google. If you happen to know someone at Google who is willing to communicate with me, please let me know. TIA, Naveen Naushad [link] [comments]

[Serious] What problems do you have with the notch? Posted: 21 Sep 2018 07:04 AM PDT I have the Essential Phone, and I don't really know why so many people hate the notch. Is it just a vocal minority? Are there terrible implementations of the notch I'm not aware of? Please chime in. Happy Friday guys! [link] [comments]
