Pocophone bands - where exactly will it cause problems?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 09:12 PM PDT

The pocophone is launching in my country, so I'm certain that it will work with my local telcos - but I'm wondering where around the world the missing bands will cause a problem? I wouldn't want to discover that my phone doesn't work when I'm vacationing...

Can't recieve international sms (Redmi Note 5 Global)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 11:13 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a Note 5, everything is working great so far, except for sms.

I first noticed it when trying to set up steam that I would not get the SMS with the security code. After I moved the SIM card back to my old phone and tried it again it worked (SMS national code +44).

Same thing happens when I try to get a security code via SMS from Microsoft. Normal SMS sending and receiving works just fine.

Maybe someone can help me fix this problem or get me on the right track. Btw. I'm using the latest miui version 9.6.3.0 and live in germany if that is any help.

Mi Mix 2S - Definitive Verizon Questions

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 09:57 PM PDT

Hi, I'm looking to get a new phone soon. I was initially going to get a Pixel 3 but all the information thus far has left me feeling underwhelmed, which has brought me to lean toward the Mi Mix 2S, my second option.

After some searching, I have seen so many contradictory answers, with many posts being from before MIUI 10. So I just wanted to get some clear answers so I can make a decision. Thank you to anyone that responds.

    1. Does it work on Verizon? I have heard that it has all the necessary bands and that it now works and that MIUI 10 fixed all the quirks it had with Verizon and Google Apps (I plan to use Android Messages and GMail especially, as well as a Google dialer, if that's a thing). I live in northern Manhattan, if that matters.

    2. How good is Xiaomi about updates? I've heard their updates focus more on MIUI than Android updates. Will it be getting Android Pie?

    3. Does the 6 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage work? I've seen some people saying it's only the max spec one that's global. I'm not looking to root my phone.

    4. How does Google Assistant work on this phone? I'm switching back to Android after having an iPhone for a while, is it as simple as Siri with activating it by talking only? Or do I have to press a button?

Again, thank you to anyone who answers. This really seems like the perfect phone for me outside of some the issues I've mentioned, and the price is so good.

    Who else loves MIUI launcher?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 06:14 AM PDT

This was initially one of the reasons I was going to got for the A1 - to stick with Google launcher.

Since getting my Note 4x, I'm a convert to MIUI. Sure, there's a few things that are annoying, but overall I love the simplicity.

I put Nova back on it a minute ago - the King of customisation - and deleted it straight away. That's what I'd be been running on my last 2 phones.

Got my Mipad 4 from EU store through Aliexpress and it's awesome!

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 11:26 AM PDT

    Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/ZmKWOGV

    Some points

    • There is no global ROM yet just the chinese one so only chinese and english language supported but OTA works perfectly (even got an update already)

    • There is no Google Play on the factory ROM but obviously you can install it w/o any problems

    • There is a preapplied protector on the screen, never seen this before but it's actually decent, matte-ish

As for the tablet I bought the "basic" version, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage. The display is better than I expected (1920x1200) tho nothing crazy. The speed is perfect, Snapdragon 660 you can see the benchmarks https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/search?q=mi+pad+4

And as I said before I got it from EU store through Aliexpress so no taxes, VAT, customs or anything. For all together $195 that was a perfect purchase.

Just one side note: some people reported on Aliexpress that they got they tablet with Mokee ROM not the factory one! https://download.mokeedev.com/ Read seller reviews before you buy one if you want an unopened tablet with the factory ROM.

Will the Pocophone F1 make it to Costa Rica?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 05:19 PM PDT

I live in Costa Rica, and I am greatly excited for this phone. But there is no information yet about wheter or not it's gonna make it to this region. As far as latin america goes, it's been announced that it will be available in Mexico, Uruguay, Chile and Colombia. Does anybody knows what are the odds? or would you recommend me to get it on the web?

Xiaomi Yi action cameras and editing footage

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 07:56 PM PDT

Looking into getting a GoPro alternative for an upcoming vacation and was reading about the Xiaomi Yi action cameras.

I don't want to spend over $100 on the camera itself, but need the camera to be waterproof for snorkeling. Not sure exactly which model yet.

I planned on videoing most of the trip to document for a family member who won't be able to make it and my concern is video editing. What apps can be used to edit footage to create a nice seamless video for the Xiaomi cameras?
I'm not a novice, but I'm not super tech savvy at video editing..

USB type C connector headphones with Xiaomi Mi A2?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 07:30 PM PDT

I want to buy a Xiaomi Mi A2 and i saw that it doesn't have a 3.5mm jack but a dongle that's used to connect USB type C and the 3.5mm jack.

The question i have is could i use Huawei or AirPods headphones that have the USB C connector?

Bit the bullet on GeekBuying for the Mi Pad 4 Plus

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 08:54 AM PDT

I've heard and seen so many mixed reviews regarding GB, but I've bit the bullet, and paid with PayPal so I have some cover. They had the Rose Gold Mi Pad 4 Plus 128GB for £300. I paid the extra £2 for priority EU line and the extra £1 odd for insurance. I've been wanting this for a while, so hopefully with all well and good, I'll have it in a couple of weeks.

    Mi A2 camera

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 01:42 PM PDT

    Hi

I bought the Mi A2 last week because it seemed one of the best budget phones available after seeing countless videos praising it. So far I'm really digging it, it's fast, has that premium look and colors are great.

One thing that's bothering me though is the camera. When looking at reviews on YouTube the Mi A2 seems to be taking really sharp pictures, but when I take pictures with mine the pictures kind of seem grainy...

Any idea what's causing this? I'm using default settings as I don't know a whole lot about photography.

    Thanks.

    Regarding Mi 5 ROM choice...

    Posted: 29 Aug 2018 01:16 PM PDT

Currently sporting Mi 5 Standard. MIUI 9.6.2.0 Global. Battery is apesh*t, lost almost 14% in capacity over two years in use, there are no replacement battery from where I come from (Bosnia...)

What is literally the best ROM for battery life and stability ? Wanting to switch since MIUI RAM management is too aggressive on my battery, I barely get 1.5 hrs SOT.
