USA - Need help finding a gaming laptop for under $1,500. To be used mainly for gaming and photo/video editing. Looking for 8th gen Intel, GTX1060 or greater, 16gb ram, and SSD + HDD. Posted: 08 Aug 2018 03:55 PM PDT You guys helped me a few years ago in choosing a great laptop, and I'm hoping you can either help me choose between a few that I had been looking at or even suggest other ones that I hadn't seen. I've been going back and forth between what seem like good options, but I want to be sure before purchasing. The first is the MSI GS63 STEALTH-010. It checks all the boxes and I like the look, but it's a little out of my price range. Second is the Asus ROG GU501GM. Third is the Dell G7 15. It seems like there are a lot of great options for the G series, and this one checks all the boxes. I had also noticed a few other good ones, like the Alienware 15 R4, although it's a little too big. I had also looked at the PROSTAR Clevo N850EP6 or P955EP6 although I'll admit I'm fairly unfamiliar with that brand. I especially like the Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-51-74V4, which would be my number 1 choice, but I can't find the right model with all my requirements for sale anywhere. Total budget and country of purchase: $1,200 - max. $1,500. USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I'm looking for the best specs for the money. Would like good battery life, but is less important. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not a priority, but I do want it to be as light and thin as possible given the requirements. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Aiming for 15.6". I'm not too sure about 4k options or IPS and stuff like that. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mainly will be gaming (not too many new releases) and Adobe Photoshop/ Premiere. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Obviously want to hit the best setting and the highest framerates. I play a lot of EU4 and shooters. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would like a good keyboard and build quality. Don't really want a touchscreen, and everything else is unnecessary. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I want to be able to keep this laptop for several years to come, so I want it as future-proof as possible, given the budget. Portugal, Belgium or any online shop in Europe - Up to €1200 Posted: 09 Aug 2018 03:01 AM PDT - Total budget and country of purchase:
Portugal, Belgium or any online shop in Europe - Up to €1200 - Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.
I'm considering the 2 in 1 form factor unless I can get way better specs for the same price in a non 2 in 1 laptop. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight is important, thinness not as much. It should have good air circulation to avoid any over heating. - Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.
Windows or Linux - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
At least 13 - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Blender, Gimp, maybe some Hearthstone or not so graphic heavy games. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I don't care much about this. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
A good keyboard is indeed important to me, if in 2 in 1 for factor it should have a stylus, no finger-print reader, must have an HDMI port and if possible already ready with at least one usb-c port. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Workstation like laptop (Alaska_01) Posted: 09 Aug 2018 02:54 AM PDT - Total budget and country of purchase:
Roughly $5,000 NZD in New Zealand - Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.
Best specifications for the money. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not really important. - Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.
I prefer to use Windows. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Greater than 15inchs - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Photo editing (Adobe Lightroom) Video editing (Adobe Premiere) 3D Modeling (Blender) Ray trace rendering (Blender - Cycles) Occasional gaming (E.G. The Witcher 3) - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I aim for 30fps at ~4k at High settings in games such as The Witcher 3 or The Rise Of The Tomb Raider and 60fps in games such as Rocket League. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I would like to see these features: 6 core 8th gen Intel CPU with activated iGPU (iGPU used in Premiere pro) A reliable cooling system (little to no thermal throttling while CPU and GPU are under full load) 16GB RAM or more High resolution (>Full HD) IPS screen Screen calibrated to sRGB A GPU with a GTX 1070 level of performance or greater (similar expectation of VRAM). 1TB of storage or more A healthy port selection (at least 2 USB type A and one SD Card. More would be preferable) - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
This is simply my thought process. Whether or not this is usuful, I don't know. The first laptop I looked at was the 15 inch MacBook Pro 2018. There's a few issues with this: Poor thermal design Limited port selection (requires adaptors which I'll have to invest in) Low end GPU (The price of the laptop pushes the idea of a eGPU out of the question) So, I moved to the Dell XPS 15 2018, once again, a few issues. Poor thermal design Low end GPU Semi-limited port selection So, I decided to look at an HP ZBook, and once again, issues. To get the GPU performance I wanted, I needed to get the high end quadro option which costs a lot (almost double my budget) The Xeon doesn't have integrated graphics. I can probably live with this, but I would prefer to see it on the laptop. After looking at workstation laptops, I decided to step back into my price range and looked at gaming laptops. There's a few issues here. Gaming laptops usually don't have high resolution screens, and when they do, they're either not calibrated or have G-Sync. G-Sync isn't bad, but based on my research, G-Sync laptops usually don't have activated intel iGPUs. The gaming laptops I have found that appear to be good options tend to be difficult to buy in New Zealand or have a slim form factor and thus a poor thermal design for my needs. E.G. The new 2018 Razer blade. Thanks for the help in advanced. If you believe there's no laptop out there that fits my needs, can you tell me and I'll continue looking into a custom built desktop (a desktop was my original plan). submitted by /u/Alaska_01 [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_vQJOXMsYojZxdmsTJeWsrJONLAm0nm730RAjAplTpf0Ly7UqGwlC1p6r3npsh0dakSs8Z8KGoDwlrCEC6lw-Gzpgza4og19d_EO6zahnUYCwPRnqMTx02K2ymojEZA-M3z-b2mTkQyqDj_lv0xoqT3c29F_ZgHdg-MKr88jN3Fid4n=s0-d) |

I highly appreciate it. submitted by /u/illmango [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_s1k6z8tdkJn6S7dHBQwns3VoOe9XBALWqz2xOShcIqA8nUOVbo-ibezEC6o2eXAKp6V9vFh27bT815Wfr2CAflbTzoQtIqPNtLEWQawrcHzu2UOJw04irMs7uUFJe-3O1_TzGGHcITV2uUlHIdUtu3LHHhrlt9VNUaOCFhMkb65QqN-A=s0-d) |
Looking for a laptop for college and mid-range gaming. Posted: 09 Aug 2018 02:06 AM PDT $800-$1300, United States Looking for something that can get me through classes just fine but also play games like Overwatch or CS:GO on 60fps, graphics can be low but medium would be nice. It seems a Geforce 1050ti or 1060 is best for what I am looking for, but I don't know how much battery life a computer like that would have outside of gaming. A thinner laptop would be best for school, but willing to sacrifice that for price or power. I was looking into non-gaming laptops that could also handle games, but I am uncertain of the power capabilities of the Intel integrated graphics. Not having to plug in during class would be very convenient. I have a desktop for long gaming sessions, but gaming when traveling (which may be often because my college is not far from my parents house, and I will be going back and forth on weekends sometimes) is a want of mine. However, the school side of things tops my priorities because of this. Windows is a definite. Not bigger than 15.5 in. screen. A good keyboard is always solid, not to picky about touchpads. I am a very indecisive person, please help :) submitted by /u/Babaloosh56 [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_uTNO6RVsum31j9RO5MBjgfmsfVBJFLW4c5iOq1obK3rYUtrwYdCa2wcSCZOhFpcA8Pi69nD13z9l6RDLoAEAq_lNwx2MDT8FXdW_CEb3zdAcBul80Zg4D79f-Sat8Qqxqi9Eihzol7anvCXAA26TW5szL0i4tFVOTwsEYlG98GmPAu=s0-d) |
Canada, going to university next year Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:19 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: About $750 CAD, plus or minus a couple hundred if you feel it is important. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I like when laptops can open up flat but it's not incredibly important. As I will be moving around campus with this, battery would be important. And of course, the best specs for the money would be nice (including build quality). How important is weight and thinness to you? Fairly important. Light enough to carry around in my bag all day. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Mac. I imagine I could install linux myself if I need to. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I don't think so. 12 inches is probably too small. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light video and photo editing, light gaming, light 3D modeling/game dev, programming. I imagine most of what I use would be internet, Office programs, discord, spotify, Blender, Unity 3D, and various programming environments. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I won't be playing many games, not much of a concern. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Comfortable typing, strong build quality, good touchpad. Full-sized shift key would be nice. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'll be using this computer throughout university, studying science, possibly majoring in Computer Science. I don't know exactly what that will mean for my laptop, but I imagine a lot of note taking, writing, and programming. submitted by /u/AidenKerr [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_vS7yhrOoy4G-Uaz9-jlsXkuoljGLyQpoEPQO5AWmn5VJ79biVtOzQuXDZ5VFI8JszzLKHxV1tXeOEtviBrSJwW8sbX1AfFDVu2IkZj0EEyp8xIoSbV4B93qe5wx42-j5EkCLR7jDOVArv23FbUmu8JTV-6mcl41gb5iBeZEuKR0KyyfQ=s0-d) |

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm looking for a laptop which could last for as long as possible. I understand there are no 100% guarantees here, but I'd like to maximize my chances by choosing a good quality build and avoiding any planned obsolescence. The rankings I was able to find on google seem contradictory and/or outdated, so any advice is highly appreciated. submitted by /u/Charcharon [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_u4Yz9S48uf_exOy-f_jVDypFw0-RnylnGM3Zr3_72Isho4ywsClcEZgPD0-8lNVVruPlTYYJay7Kle63ep189FJoeloZka4OymHTleTLpkq5q0dvVmVYULBRCNprM2ly94Qm4ljD841GhK1ixqEpN2paTdS6kHzksGGHZtba01WXZWAg=s0-d) |
Looking for a laptop going to be used primarily for gaming and at home Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:43 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $1000, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? How important is weight and thinness to you? Neither of these details are of any importance Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to be able to run games at their highest settings. I like to play Overwatch but my current laptop is not capable of getting good frame rates Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A good keyboard is high on my list of priorities. I play rhythm games a ton so a good keyboard is essential. University student going into computer science! Is the Dell G7 right for me? Posted: 09 Aug 2018 01:26 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $1000-1500? Canada Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Decent battery life would be preferred as I need to bring it to class but I would also like the best specs for my money as I want the laptop to be future proof How important is weight and thinness to you? Not too much however I will be carrying this laptop on my back during travels. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15 aka just not 17 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'm unaware of programs i will need in comp sci but video editing in the future is a possibility. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? My main games are League of Legends, Overwatch and Fortnite, however I may be interested in future titles that demand more power. I want at least 60 fps. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Core i5 or i7 and at least 8 gb ram Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The main reason I am here is because I am stuck between either getting a gaming laptop or simply a laptop. I want my laptop to be strong and future proof but at the same time, I feel that I need battery to last me through my classes. I've had my eye on the Dell G7 especially because is it on sale at best buy for $1500 (1060 model) and was wondering if it would be a good fit for me. It seems like such a steal at the price. But of course the only downside would be possibly the weight and battery life. I do have a gaming desktop with a g4600 and 1050ti which i plan to eventually upgrade but the reason for wanting the G7 is because it will last me longer and let me do some gaming during my downtime at school. Thank you kindly for your time and help. submitted by /u/FilipinoFligger [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_vCQ-q-ZrXO_RpKDdhMdjddjLUlZzMBVEwh-_65Rge2u1S5AacZF9-CcjG80YE-J0WSgiy5pVkAkdgfBn_iqunbryIj6nr9TV2ejyH9FT6GHfX_B8xZh2xQMNIN5BUhTncOfybpnbiEc2dThAaQYnd8rDvzJgx2EKzFqw2ib91IAEfHzw=s0-d) |
Best laptop possible for $250? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 07:17 PM PDT The DOE gave my boss a $250 budget per each laptop and I have been finding it really hard to find something worth. Need to buy laptop for college but hate new macbook keyboard, do you end up getting used to it eventually? 2015 15 inch vs 2018 13 inch? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 02:57 PM PDT I'm someone who types on a mechanical keyboard at home, and while I love the pre-2016 macbook keyboards, I tried the new ones in the apple store and I hated them. I need to buy a laptop for college asap, and right now the sole reason I don't want to buy 2013 13 inch is because of the keyboard, I really hated it. As a result, I'm very strongly considering buying a 2015 15 inch instead (couldn't find new/refurbished 13 inch), and I guess I'm wondering if I'd end up getting used to the keyboard, or if it's really a big deal for other people and that I should stick to the 2015 model??? submitted by /u/CrazedZombie [link] [comments]![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_u2SdRpQazyxfxupPeNM0keNuwofl2Yyh3thaa1GVDb7mHcnxFzIM-4zavTgFfynw8wRNsfFHaXsvSUXgMq_s35QCDRADJ2XJZhn_CZ6sVlgw_E1BQF5ld0aU6fTn4iMrGgOB2uAQQt6F9RCkjfpY-oG6226PzEhlzJbANz9afkLV1VJw=s0-d) |
