Windows 10 VM (or real machine) to access in RDP in the cloud? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:30 AM PDT I'm looking for a service that would allow "rent" a machine that is always accessible in the cloud and which I'd use via RDP. I currently have that set up at home: I have a powerful computer at which I can throw compilation of huge projects, use for Unity development, etc. all remotely on my Surface Pro with amazing battery life (10h+). I still do small tasks on the Surface but whenever I do development, RDP is the way to go. It works great, but I can't guarantee the availability of my network connection at home. Sometimes the router will fail, or the modem, or I might have a power outage, etc. In any case since I'm travelling, as much as I love this configuration I can't trust it. Therefore I'm looking for a third party service which guarantees the availability of the machine for me, and that is very powerful (typically way more than the Surface Pro). Any ideas on finding such a service? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:30 AM PDT Both the ethernet connection and WIFI connection use the same default gateway. I want that the ethernet connection be called "Ethernet", not my WIFI SSID name. This is super annoying. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 04:46 PM PDT I'm not very tech savvy and I don't even know if this is the right place to ask this but my computer is approaching full storage; I have about 15 gigabytes left our of 119 and my computer is now noticeably slower than it used to be a while ago. I don't have any massive games downloaded on my computer, I've uninstalled everything that was unnecessary, I've deleted hundreds upon hundreds of word docs and videos and pictures, I've repeatedly cleared temporary files, yet I can't seem to make a dent in how much space I'm using on my pc. Is there any way to free up a substantial amount of space? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 11:42 AM PDT A while ago I noticed that my CPU was over 90C° at all times for a long time due to dust. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:35 AM PDT It shows the correct amount on my other computer. It is only this computer where it does not work...I looked online for an hour and no one has been able to figure this out... It's not a huge deal but it is definitely annoying. Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:25 PM PDT Hello! First post in this sub, and it's gonna be venty, so bear with me. I've had this issue for years, but today, after almost throwing away over 2,000 hours worth of progress on a RuneScape account, am I deciding to do something about it. So, anyway, a sub-100 working at Microsoft decided it would be a good idea for auto-updates to interrupt all activity and restart the PC without saving and without requiring explicit permission from the user. After all, the absence of a no is a yes, right? Anyway, my university's WiFi policy won't allow me to connect to the internet unless auto-updates on my PC are on, which isn't a problem, except for the fact that the updates decide to give me a 15 minute countdown timer which appears in the background, so I don't even see it coming unless I look at the task bar or alt-tab out. The longest I can postpone updates for is 4 hours, so it comes up pretty often. I catch it before it updates maybe 80% of the time, but the other 20% is extremely frustrating. Is there an easy fix or workaround to this? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Audio won't automatically switch between headphones and speakers (Windows 7) Posted: 08 Aug 2018 01:10 PM PDT I'm not sure if this is the way Windows 7 is supposed to be, but it won't automatically switch from monitor audio to headphone audio when I plug/unplug the headphones. I have a Windows 10 laptop and it switches automatically. The only way right now for me to switch between headphone and speaker audio is by switching the default device. I don't want to have to go into audio settings every time I plug in my headphones. Is there any fix? [link] [comments]
Is there any way to increase screen resolution from Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Posted: 08 Aug 2018 04:21 PM PDT I can't install any driver for my AMD card cause i keep getting BSOD during installation ( some atikmpag.sys error ). So i'm okay with basic windows display, im just bothered with this resolution. Is there any way to increase it? [link] [comments]
Any good, comprehensive and modern guides for what to do after Windows 7 reinstall? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 12:32 PM PDT Basically my situation is this: My desktop computer's Win7 is somehow messed up in that it stopped installing updates like 4 months ago (Windows Update says theres updates and it downloads them just fine, but every install fails) and nothing one could do to fix the problem helps, plus I'm sure that after 4+ years of usage the usual pile-up of crap is pretty high and I don't have the patience to start cleaning up the system so I've just decided to do a reinstall. I know Win7 support has ended and all that, but I've no fear for viruses and the alike and I like the OS compared to Win10, which I have on my laptop if I need it. I'm planning to do a new build next year which will have Win10, so 7 is good for now. During the 4+ years of using Win7 I've ran into numerous tweaks and little fixes in the OS (Black Viper's service list, turn off hibernation, SSD tweaks, etc.) so that I couldn't possibly remember them all, and Google fails to offer a comprehensive all-in-one guide as well. So I'd figure I'll ask here if you folks have any such guide or otherwise good repository of info available. Also sorry if this belongs to r/TechSupport, I thought I'd try here first. Audio Drivers aren't working, even after reinstallation. Posted: 08 Aug 2018 12:18 PM PDT I had this problem last week. Suddenly my audio wasn't working, and I assume it has to do with a Windows update I just recently installed. A little red X appeared on my sound icon. Now my Hd Audio Driver appears to be corrupted, and no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall all of my audio drivers, I can't get sound. Any tips would be appreciated. Some pics: Please let me know if you need any other info. My headphones are plugged into the rear audio jack and I've tried the front as well. [link] [comments]
How do you change the Microsoft account of the Onedrive folder in the file explorer? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 07:45 AM PDT Hey, hope I am allowed to post this here. So currently, my Onedrive folder in the file explorer is using the wrong Microsoft account in the sense that it isn't the one for which I paid storage. Therefore, I'd like to change the account the folder uses. That isn't a problem on my other device on which I can just right-click the Onedrive folder in the file explorer and hit settings to find Add account. However on this device the option does not appear and I can't find it anywhere else. Edit: both devices appear to be fully updated on Windows 10. Edit 2: Solved! I hit the windows key and just scrolled through all the apps that are listed alphabetically. Among them I found the program Onedrive (despite not finding it by typing it in). Right-clicked and hit More, Settings and Reinitialize. It finally asked me for my account and now everything is synched correctly. [link] [comments]
Is there a limit between de-activating then re-activating Posted: 08 Aug 2018 10:01 AM PDT I currently have ThinkPad with win10. I want to install linux instead. Then I am going to build a computer over the course of 6ish months. I want windows for gaming and also don't really want to pay for windows. Can I de-activate my laptop win10 and easily reactivate on new pc with no time constraints? Will I run into licensing issues when I try to transfer, considering win10 was preinstalled? Do I own the license even though I didn't actually buy it? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Installing Bluetooth Keyboard (Dell WK717) Posted: 08 Aug 2018 07:15 AM PDT I recently acquired a Dell Premier Wireless Keyboard (WK717) to use with my laptop on Windows 7. The keyboard comes with a wireless receiver that works great when plugged into my laptop. The problem arises when I try to connect the keyboard to my laptop using Bluetooth. When I go to add a device on my laptop and put the keyboard in pairing mode, the laptop recognizes the keyboard and asks me to input a pairing code on the keyboard. As soon as I do that they are paired but no driver is ever installed so the keyboard doesn't work. If I go into Devices and Printers the keyboard shows up as greyed out, checking the properties, there is no hardware ID associated with the keyboard which now makes sense why it won't install a driver for it to work. It also doesn't show up anywhere in Device Manager. So I guess I have a couple questions:

Possible to assign a key to a button that has no hot key? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:30 AM PDT I'm not sure if this is possible but maybe someone knows...So I'm using an application and I have to constantly use the mouse to selected OK to run a test (I do this hundreds of times a day) and it sucks having to go from the mouse to the keyboard repeat. How can I assign a hot key or shortcut to that button or section of the screen where the OK button is? [link] [comments]

Any Windows package manager which can compile from the source? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 04:18 AM PDT I'm looking for a Windows package manager which can compile from the source. Like HomeBrew in macOS or AUR on Arch Linux, downloads the latest or an specific release of a software from Github or other repositories, after installing the dependencies. I have already asked Chocolatey and scoop guys but apparently these package managers are not able to perform what I need (for example here). I would appreciate if you could help me know if there is anything like that. [link] [comments]
Computer Noob with mouse problems Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:50 AM PDT Today my mouse started doing this weird thing where while I'm pressing a mouse button down, the side buttons don´t respond, which is very annoying while playing overwatch. What can I do to solve this? [link] [comments]
Windows activation after hardware change. Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:57 AM PDT Recently my hard disk got corrupted and I had to replace it. The tech guy told me that I have to buy win 10 again because it was pre-built and the file are lost with the hardwarenfor home version. So he installed a pro version. Now after resetting again, I don't know how to switch back to home version! To buy it again in my country is a bit pricey. Is there no way? P.S: Thanks for any help in advance! [link] [comments]
Ehanced Pointer Precision won’t stay on Posted: 08 Aug 2018 12:38 AM PDT Idgaf if you think it's bad I like it. Since just night after I clicked it, then hit Apply, then OK it would just turn itself back off. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Logitech SetPoint a few times but that doesn't work. Now it won't even let me open SetPoint. This is really annoying me. Any fixes? If it matters, my mouse is a Logitech M510 [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Aug 2018 09:09 PM PDT I'll try to keep this short. My main computer upstairs? Very simple easy to input password. The other one downstairs? I can't change the password to anything simpler than 8 letters long with symbols + capital letters. Both using Windows 10 Pro. What's the deal? Why can't I decide how complex my password is to log into my own computer? Is something linked onto the lower computer that is giving it additional complexity requirements? Can I remove this? What's going on? [link] [comments] |
