There's most likely a system dark theme coming soon

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:11 PM PDT

So I noticed today if I have maps running in Android auto, and I open Android messenger (with dark theme enabled), maps will stutter like it's reloading and switch to a dark theme like I turned my headlights(Android auto will use your head lights to determine dark theme) on even though they're off.

Also, while messenger has dark mode enabled, opening maps will yield a dark background for a split second before it switches to white. So there's obviously some kind of shared resource between messenger/maps relating to the dark theme.

Anyone else found anything like this where apps seem to be connected to the messenger dark theme?

EDIT: this seems to apply to all of Android auto, not just maps.

If you are an existing Google Drive paid subscriber and have not been able to upgrade to Google One, here's why.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:20 PM PDT

Spent some time chatting with Google support staff today and they sent me an email explaining the situation why some paid Google Drive subscribers have not been upgraded to Google One.

    Email: https://i.imgur.com/DvYTVUz.jpg

TL;DR: If you have received promotional storage from things like security checkups, local guide rewards, chromebook promotional storage etc., they are still working on a way for users to keep this promotional storage and be upgraded to Google One. There is no timetable on when this will happen, all that I was told was soonTM

P.S. I tried the trick of allowing your current subscription to expire and then sign up again, but Google One was still not available for me. Guess we'll just have to wait it out.

You're now the CEO of a mobile phone manufacturer, what does your bare bones device lineup and release cycle look like?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 10:44 AM PDT

Let's use HTC or maybe BLU as examples. You want to focus your product line as much as you can on necessities - what do you make and when do you make them?

You obviously have a flagship phone - but just one? Do you need two sizes (eg, Pixel, Pixel XL or S9, S9+)? Do you make a "compact" version or is the smaller option just considered compact?

Do you keep a budget/mid level option? Maybe even two different sizes of that?

How about a halo device "above" your typical flagship model? Maybe the Note 9 approach?

And how often do you release these? Is everything an annual release? It kind of has to be these days, doesn't it? Do you think you could get away with doing 18 months? Maybe for the halo option? Maybe your budget line refreshes every 8-10 months.
