Just got the Xiaomi-Wiha Screwdriver Set. It's beautiful

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 11:55 AM PDT

Now I don't know for sure how much exactly input Wiha had, but the result seems adorable.

It comes in anodized aluminum case where you'll find 24 different bits, all held by magnets, reportedly made of S20 steel. It's definitely geared towards those with an interest of disassembling gadgets/watches/glasses, not assemblying IKEA shelves, so the bits are small.

They're held with magnets unlike their cheap Chinese siblings which just fall down when turned upside down.

The handle is anodized aluminium as well, shit feels right in your hand. Not too heavy, not too light.

Cons: the markings on the bits are on one side only so you gotta put pay attention when you put them back in the case.

Pros: Feels sturdy af, Wiha definitely didn't just stamp their logo on it. Great engineering compared to your usual Chinese "24 bits universal screwdriver" you might get at your local dollar store.

Considering it only costs $20-25, depending on the sale and your coupons, definitely a must-buy if you're tinkering with small screws.

    Official Wiha specs

    Two real-life pics: 1, 2.

E: For those that have little idea about screwdrivers, Wiha are what Villeroy-Bosch are to, again, IKEA.

Those are the tools you buy once. And pass on to you grand-children.

Not saying those are it until I seriously tried it, but from all reports they are. So buy them while they're fkcng $20.

Another homebrewn photo. Ain't that shit beautiful.

Brand New Redmi Note 5 came with bootloop

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 08:41 AM PDT

So I got my brand new Xiaomi Redmi note 5 global version 2 days ago. Really happy, until I tried to turn it on...

Power (Normal boot) : the phone keeps bootlooping, never passes the Mi initial logo screen
Power + volume up (recovery) : gives an error saying "The system has been destroyed" and just turns off
Power + volume down (fastboot) : works fine

Bootloader it's locked obviously so I can't flash anything

Sometimes the "powered by Android" and the 3 dots blinking appear but they just keep loading and nothing happens (I've waited for 2 hours even) or it just freezes and restarts again. I managed to get into MiRecovery once, don't ask me how, it just got into it without me doing anything special. I tried to flash a new rom via "update.zip" but the phone wasn't recognized via MiAssistant. Never booted into MiRecovery ever since, just gives me the error now.

When I put the phone charging, it automaticaly keeps booting. It only appears the battery icon when the battery it's empty.

Activating warranty is what I'm supposed to do I know, but the problem is that it would take me at least a month to get the phone back since I'm from Portugal and I bought it in a Hong Kong warehouse.

Did the "fastboot getvar anti" test and the result was "anti : 3"
I tried to boot recovery via fastboot "fastboot boot recovery.img" and it gives me a "Too many links" error in CMD and "the system has been destroyed" on the phone.

I thing that's all, I really have nothing else to say, I would appreciate some help, thanks in advance!

Redmi Note 5 Pixel Experience Vs Lineage OS and GCams

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 06:24 PM PDT

My 15 Day wait for the Bootloader unlock is finally over tomorrow but I can't really decide on which ROM to use. I used to use On my old LG G3 and was pretty content with it. But looking at my new Note 5 there's a much bigger development community with so many ROMs to choose from. As I much prefer Stock Android my choice narrowed down between Pixel Experience and Lineage OS. Does anyone have some experience with those ROMs and generally tell which one is smoother or which one has more issues.

Also I would like to know which camera mods you guys use.

    Thanks.

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE user - What's your average SoT?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 01:48 PM PDT

    Hi.

I'm thinking about buying the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, but I can't find a lot information about the average SoT.

I currently have a Xiaomi Mi5 and after the latest update the battery sucks, i barely get 3 hours of SoT. So i need to know that the average user gets way more than 3 hours.

Have a nice weekend everyone :-)

Trouble taking out the body of Mi Band 3 from charger.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 07:45 PM PDT

Just got a new Mi Band 3 last week and loving it so far. The only problem is I can't remove it from the charger without yanking on the USB cord on the opposite end with all my might. Even then the small body slips out of my grip. Are they supposed to be this tight? I can't find anything about this anywhere online. Any advice is appreciated!

    Notebook Air 13.3 2017 and USB-C displays

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 09:02 AM PDT

I'm looking into buying a USB-C monitor for my office. I know how much of a mess the USB-C world is and extensive googling left me even more confused than when I started. So, I have the following questions:

    1. I know the Air 13.3 2017 doesn't support Thunderbolt 3. Does the port support simultaneous video output AND charging (that its, the laptop charges when the display is plugged into the USB-C port)?
    2. If it does, are there any displays that provide the voltage required to charge the laptop? I've tried a few third-party chargers and cables, but none of them have worked so far (I don't need a replacement charger, I just had a few lying around and was curious if they'd work).

I know a USB-C hub may be a better choice, but I'm still curious.

    Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know a work around to create a live notification when the Yi Camera noise detection alert goes off?

I'm looking for a pop up of a live view of the camera feed instead of the normal notification. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S9.

    Thanks!

Xiaomi Mi Max 3: Difference between global rom and chinese global rom?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 04:57 AM PDT

Yesterday I ordered a Mi Max 3 for myself from Aliexpress and after that I was browsing r/Xiaomi and saw someone saying people should wait for the ''official global rom'' which isnt released..

The Mi Max 3 i ordered was with this picture http://i65.tinypic.com/qxt26d.jpg but when I checked the description it said ''Official global rom; chinese version''.. My question is: does this affect me in any way? I just use my phone to make calls and browse reddit sometimes. And will I be able to download the official global rom once it's released?

Can't installed anything after 8.7.12 (Mi Max Prime)

    Posted: 28 Jul 2018 06:27 AM PDT

I have the Mi Max Prime 4/128 and every update after 8.7.12 results in a bootloop that can only be fixed by installing the aforementioned version on top, again. Anybody else has the same problem?

EDIT: Fixed it. Flash latest 16.7 Magisk after the ROM and it works.
