Posted: 26 Jul 2018 06:39 PM PDT EDIT: This happens when I'm searching computer related info. I'm running Firefox with containers for each search engine. How is Avast determining what I'm searching for? Can I stop it? Is Avast just spyware in disguise? Better option for antivirus? I'm already using MBAM as well. Many thanks for any help. EDIT 2: I really appreciate all the help and info, you guys are great, I learned some good stuff. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:23 PM PDT Okay. So I'm building a computer for my brother tonight and I've never had this issue on my own or the other three I've built. Specs are a Gigabyte B360M DS3H motherboard, Intel i3-8100, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1050ti, 1tb WD blue. After getting everything powered to the motherboard (20+4 connector, 2x4 12v connectors, all the case buttons and fans) I turned the PC on for the first time (not connected to a monitor) and it turned on for a brief second, turned off, turned back on and off a few more times, then eventually started and stayed running but shortly thereafter the speaker made five rapid beeps. According to all the gigabyte forums I've read and other reddit threads I've seen five rapid beeps appears to be a CPU error. I haven't tried to connect the PC to a monitor because we're still waiting on one to get shipped, so I'm unaware if it's POSTing, but based on what all I've read I imagine it's more than likely not going to. The only mistake I made (as far as I know) is I accidentally plugged a PCIe connector into the 2x4 12v connector and tried to start the computer, but it wouldn't even power on at all, and once the correct connectors were in and it powered I doubt that messed anything up. So far I've tried:
So, to sum this post up my three questions are:
With it being an Intel CPU there aren't pins on the bottom of the chip and the ones on the motherboard don't appear to be bent. I'm at a total loss right now and could really appreciate you guys' help. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jul 2018 10:20 PM PDT I have been having this issue for a while now, I've tried almost everything I can think of and find from others but have had no luck at all. There have been some posts I've seen of similar problems with solutions that haven't helped me yet. I'm at a loss for what to try now, so I will be as thorough as possible outlining the issue and what i've tried so far. In short, my gpu fan goes insane, followed by monitor blacking out, followed by needing to reboot via the power button. When this happens, I can still hear audio and windows noises, but there is just no signal to the monitor. The issue started a few months ago, and would happen occasionally, I could still game without trouble most of the time. Over the past month or so it has become impossible to do anything anymore. It began happening every ~10 minutes into a game, to happening every time I opened a game, to everytime I look at my computer. Initially, I thought it was my gpu. So I troubleshooted that for a while, tried previous drivers, the most recent drivers with no luck. I contacted evga, they sent me a replacement, but the problem still persisted. Next, I noticed that my psu fans weren't spinning, so I thought maybe this was the problem. Again, I contacted evga, and they sent me a brand new one. The issue was still occurring. i've tried:

Thank you for taking the time to read this! I appreciate any help someone can offer. I will provide any additional details that might be needed to debug this! edit: formatting Update 1: Tried removing current hard drive and installing windows fresh on an empty ssd. no luck. tried just "resetting" again, and it broke during startup. Tried to completely clear hard drive, broke again. Once windows was installed on the new one, fan was pretty loud the entire time. Windows found some updates and began installing, few minutes in and black screen. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:05 PM PDT Greetings! I am trying to portforward FlatOut II, but for some reason I get a "Error converting one or more entries:" I tried to look for any other IPv4 -setup, which would have had the same ports, but I didn't find any. Printing an A4 size image onto letter size paper. Posted: 27 Jul 2018 12:16 AM PDT Hello, I want to print this image: https://ibb.co/cTLaYo So that the circles are 1 inch size (I'm making bottle cap buttons!) But the tutorial I'm using says to print with A4 size paper, while I have 8.5x11in letter size. How can I set up the print so the size remains what A4 would be, or adjust it so it's 1inch? I'm using GIMP. Thank you!! [link] [comments] |
Windows 10, explorer.exe and/or taskbar keeps refreshing Posted: 27 Jul 2018 02:14 AM PDT I apologise in advance if there is already a post about this, but it's driving me mad. Every time I try to load up Windows Explorer via my External Hard Drive (I keep it plugged in BTW), the taskbar keeps on refreshing, which results in losing the WiFi connection and slow speeds. When I exit out of it, the speeds stops and I reconnect automatically to the WiFi. I'm really hoping that I don't have to get a new External Hard Drive, because I don't want to lose all the data I have on it. I've tried the following methods: * Running my anti-virus software to see if there's any threats (found none) * Running Command Prompt as Administrator and using the command lines DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, then using the command line sfc /scannow (all of them resulted in no errors) * I don't have IDT Audio anywhere * I haven't installed OneDrive (although I have tried to remove all files related to it) * I've checked the Event Viewer, but couldn't find any errors related to explorer.exe (although I did find Scan Read Fail warnings related to HP Comm Recovery, not sure how much help this will be) Here are the specs for my desktop PC: * OS: Windows 10 Home * CPU: Intel Pentium 1.60GHz * RAM: 8GB * Anti-virus software: ESET Internet Security * Display: Windows Basic Display Driver (no graphics card installed) * External Hard Drive: WD Elements 2TB Again, apologise in advance if there is already a post about this, but this has been annoying me for most of the day now, and I would love it to have a fix for it ASAP. Can changing my Path cause Bluescreen? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 02:03 AM PDT Hello everyone, I'm installing flutter, and per the instructions on https://flutter.io/setup-windows/ - Update your Path"Control Panel > User Accounts > User Accounts > Change my environment variables" I followed the instructions but when i rebooted my pc it continuously bluescreened with "boot device not found",None of the autorepair options worked and I had to do a fresh install of windows, deleting everything. Now I'm back at the Path part and I'm scared because I don't want to lose another day of reinstaling and downloading stuff (slowish internet),was it just coincidence or could the Path cause these issues?I won't disregard the possibility I made a typo or mistake in the "C:\src\flutter\bin" thing i pasted, could it be that? Thank you very much for reading, and any help will be appreiated,(I don't really understand what I'm doing with this Path and stuff) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 02:02 AM PDT Edit 1: Basically right after making this post, I updated GPU driver to the latest one recommended on the GT550M page, and opened up csgo to test it. I played a full deathmatch game around 15 min with no crash, but then opened the steam overlay which caused a BSOD within maybe 5-6 seconds. Stopcode was just 'KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED' Okay so I have a really old gaming laptop and so I understand that buying a new system is kinda the best thing to do at this point, but I'd appreciate help on the current issue rather than being told to buy a new system. I know, I'll get to it. Meanwhile, I hope I can get some help here xD. I have a Dell XPS L702x, with an NVIDIA GeForce GT550M (1GB vram), intel i7 2630QM @ 2.0GHz, and 6GB RAM. This definitely isn't the first time I'm having BSODs. The last time I really had a serious case of BSODs, some nice people helped me solve it by restoring all my graphics drivers, BIOS drivers and CPU drivers to the ones listed under m laptop's official page. (https://www.dell.com/support/home/in/en/indhs1/product-support/product/xps-l702x/drivers) This worked great, for almost a year. But now the BSODs are back. They happen almost exclusively while gaming or on Chrome, so I'm pretty sure the GPU is running into some problem and causing it. I stopped gaming for a period of 4 months prior to now, and so haven't installed anything new in recent history that mightve caused this. Initially the stopcode listed for the BSODs was 'FACEIT.SYS', and so I wiped out all traces of FaceIt from my laptop, but the BSODs continued with different stopcodes every time. What do I do? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 02:01 AM PDT About a week ago I started having issues with my mouse, or at least I thought so. 50% of the time I'm on my laptop my mouse is either not registering click at all, or doing so after 4-10 repeated clicks, also when hoovering over an icon on my desktop is not highlighting them. Whenever I browse the internet or system files when my mouse is plugged in it randomly goes to the previous page/file, I couldnt find out any pattern to it, it just randomly does so. Weird thing is when I unplug my mouse, I can browse things just fine with the touchpad, but not registering clicks issue still persists. It's definiately not a particular mouse issue since I have tried 3 mice so far with 3 different usb ports. This happens randomly, one day I went without any problems and another it just happened randomly once every hour for the whole day and another (like today) it's constantly broken. Sometimes unplugging my mouse for a few hours helps and works just fine for another few hours. I tried looking for any solutions and found out about sfc /scannow command, which suprisingly fixed all my problems instantly in a first 2 days, but after that it did nothing. I tried restoring system to a previous time, uninstalling and installing mouse drivers, doing a safe system startup but nothing worked. Any ideas what should I try next ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 01:59 AM PDT Hello~ So I'm just now learning a bit more about my computer and just set up my first system, yey! BUT, I've run into a bit of a problem. I am a home graphic artist and gamer, I really would like to have dual screens like I had before while using a laptop and desktop screen. I have a desktop now and several monitors and cords to do what I assumed was fairly simple...it wasn't. I popped my DVI cable into the back of my graphics card and realized my card only took another DVI. Fine, not a problem I'll plug the other into the back of my motherboard since it seems to support it.........nothing, nada, zilch. I read up on it and I went into the BIOS hoping to turn it on, there was no 'enable' but there was a button called 'UMA' I pressed it, enabled it, saved. Still nothing. So I'm hear curious to find out if you guys can help me. Motherboard: System Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Posted: 26 Jul 2018 10:12 PM PDT Modem: Arris sb6190 Router: Netgear nighthawk x6 Internet provider: spectrum Hello, As stated in the title Im having internet issues and customer support for my internet provider couldn't help me. First I thought I missed my bill, not the issue. Second I figured there might be an outage, wasn't that either. Currently my modem is on with the the power led icon solid green and the receive led light is flashing green. Customer service advised me to unplug power wait and reconnect, which didn't work. Doubled checked all connections which looked good but still no solution to my problem. All help is appreciated and thank you in advance for your time. [link] [comments] |
Can't get into windows 7 through safe mode for factory reset Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:37 PM PDT My dad just gave me a dell optiplex3020 from his work, the first problem is theres accounts on it that we dont know the password to so I cant get in so i figured I'd factory reset, I've been trying to find ways to do a factory reset without logging In but everything is telling me to access safe mode during startup. The second problem is that I cant even access safe mode, I can access my boot settings through F12, but there's no prompt for F8 safe mode and nothing happens when I press/hold/press and hold, anybody know any ways to bypass the login or find a way into safe mode? My windows 10 calculator app doesn’t work, does a non-admin solution exist for me to fix it? Posted: 26 Jul 2018 08:13 AM PDT So I work for the government, my windows 10 Workstation doesn't have a working default calculator app. When I click on the icon to open it, it never opens. As my title says, I am not an admin user. Is there any way to fix it? I don't have internet access on my workstation for security reasons and because I work for the government, I don't feel like going through the long drawn out process to have IT fix it. Just how much can I plug into one wall outlet? Posted: 26 Jul 2018 08:22 PM PDT Title. I have a modest personal computer setup in my bedroom - a mid-end gaming desktop, two monitors, a TV, a printer, a Nintendo Switch; along with a mini fridge and all the other stuff a bedroom needs (alarm clock, phone charger, laptop charger, lamp, etc.). The problem is, my room lacks a grounded wall outlet, so I have to run power into my room from an outlet in the hallway. All of the big power-consumers - namely the desktop PC, mini fridge, TV, and monitors - require a grounded outlet. I have basically everything that doesn't need a grounded outlet plugged into the outlets in my room, but this is messy. How much do I need to worry about overloading the hallway outlet? Are these things robust enough to handle me just plugging basically my entire room into this one outlet on a big surge protector? Thanks for the help. [link] [comments] |
most of track pad suddenly stopped working. Posted: 26 Jul 2018 08:22 PM PDT My track pad on my laptop suddenly stopped working. Only a small section is working. I left my laptop alone for a few minutes as I have done before and when I returned it was no longer working! I restarted twice to no avail, searched and downloaded and updated drivers I'm not sure what else I can do. I attached a photo of my track pad and the parts that are working. The buttons work fine and there is a tiny, tiny sliver on the left edge that responds (colored green). The rest, (colored red) won't respond. Posted: 26 Jul 2018 10:38 PM PDT Sometimes, my PC just does an immediate reboot. Not a blue screen, not an app crash, just blink hard reset. It appears to happen during disk writes, and I'm most frequently able to repro the problem when playing Skyrim, when I go to save game. Issue persisted across a BIOS upgrade and a complete wipe and re-install of the OS. Memcheck is clean. DiskInfo/SMART is 100% healthy. Power supply is fairly new, plenty of juice (650w). Event Viewer has no record of the crash, only of the unexpected shutdown after rebooting. My best guess is some kind of SATA controller failure, but I don't know how to directly test that. Posted: 26 Jul 2018 10:29 PM PDT Hello! I recently had a nostalgia wave and decided to play the old Sims 3 games on my laptop (an HP with windows 10.) I currently have Sims 4 downloaded on it not via a disc, but have never tried to run any Sims 3 before on it. All of my S3 games are on discs, so I inserted one and the first time it popped up with a prompt in the bottom right corner and asked if I wanted to install it. I clicked yes, but didnt have the activation code that came with that game so I exited the tab and removed the disc. when i got expansion packs, they sometimes came with both the expansion pack and a copy of the original game. I have 3 copies of the original, one of which doesnt have an activation code with it which makes me unable to use it(thats the one i initially put in my laptop.) when i tried to enter the other two copies, no prompt appeared on my laptop so i couldnt download them. note that the first one hadnt begun downloading before i needed the activation code. i even tried putting the first disc back in and nothing pops up now. edit: i also looked in my file explorer, and it doesnt have a tab that says theres a CD inserted. im really stuck, could anyone help me fix this?? thanks!! Very slow internet download speeds, but very fast upload speed Posted: 26 Jul 2018 05:46 PM PDT Hello, I live in Florida and I use Spectrum as my internet provider. I have been having an issue with my internet speeds. Doing a speed test on Google results in download speeds of 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds of 25-ish Mbps. I assumed it was some settings in the Wifi modem they gave me but I can't figure out which settings I should adjust. My desktop is wired to the modem itself and I've disabled the wifi on said desktop which I'm conducting the speed test on. Wifi on our phones is slow too. Any go-to settings I can adjust in my router/modem before I call them to complain? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jul 2018 10:18 PM PDT I have 2 monitors set up, one is 1080p 27in and the other is 1440p 27 in. Sadly, Windows believes that one of these monitors is physically larger than the other, due to the imbalance in resolution. This causes some annoying pointer issues, as it gets caught in certain spaces on the edge of the screen. Is there any way to fix this yet, or am I just going to have to get used to it?
