Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:31 AM PDT I decided to cheap out on a laptop (HP Windows 10 with an AMD 9 processor), and realised I'd paid the price for it (ironically) when I tried to open more than 2 tabs on Chrome. I've tried calling customer service repeatedly but unless it is actually faulty they won't accept it back, even though I've only had it for 3 days. To get around this I was thinking of system restarting the laptop, repackaging it and sending it back as an "unused" product. Will this work? I've read a lot of conflicting opinions from what little info I could find online. P.S. I'm in the UK Thanks [link] [comments]  |
| Looking for a reliable 5ghz WiFi extender Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:13 AM PDT We had one of these for a while, and it was terrible. What's the best way to extend the signal to our entire house? Unfortunately, the modem and router has to be in one corner of the house. I still have the old extender, but it's 2.4ghz only. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I'm willing to pay enough for the right product to make sure we have coverage. Mesh networks are out of my price range right now. Thanks in advance. | Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:07 AM PDT Okay, so, I had to forcibly reset my W10 pc, because my 6-year old brother did something while playing his Roblox. When I opened the pc, it shows the windows icon then loads, then stops then shuts off, so what I did was remove the battery and windows diagnosed my pc. I unfortunately have two options, to shut down the pc or reset it. Or more like reformat it, so I had no choice. I reset it choosing the 'keep the files' option afterwards and then waited an hour to finish. Wasn't in my expectation that some of my games' files will be deleted too, and well, I am using this software to write a story. I didn't back it up (written works), I never ever expected this mess. But the app I used was still intact, except the works/files I did that has so many words and I spent so much time constructing the story. It will all just be painful to leave it like that. But I dug a little bit into the files and found a 'WRITE MONKEY (the app I am using) BACKUP' and there were files innit! But, the files are of different format and when I open it with a notepad, numbers just come up. Can I still save my works through those files? If so, how? Thank you!!!! [link] [comments]  |

I have the size of my HDD down to 100 gigabytes so it will fit on my 120 gig SSD, and am using macrium to clone it. I tried easus but it wasn't working either. Both programs, however, gave me the same error of "incompatible disk selected; the target disk has an incompatible sector size for this operation. Please choose a different task." Everything I found online says that it is likely caused by using USB to hook up the SSD but mine is connected via SATA and I can't find anything on it, please help!!! [link] [comments]  |
| My Computer Can't Connect to 5GHz Wireless Internet Posted: 01 Jul 2018 06:41 PM PDT Sorry if I put a wrong flair, but I have recently started having problems with my download speed, and I had found out I could only connect to the 2.4 GHz band of my wireless internet. I thought I had fixed it, but apparently it had only been temporary. My wireless adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros 802.11 a|b|g|n Dualband Wireless network module, so it should be able to connect to 5GHz, and it has in the past. Anyone have an idea of what's causing this? So im left handed and have small hands so any regular sized mouse is out of the question. I also have 4 fingers and have muscular dystrophy so im rather weak. I consider myself a pretty good gamer but id love a mouse that has the extra buttons. Games like PUBG or Fortnite,any game that is demanding of fast reaction and multiple keys can be challenging. Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:04 AM PDT i apologize for the stupid question, but... i saw some videos advising how to use compressed air to take dust off from inner part of a laptop, applying from outside, without opening it. i went to a computers shop and got a "spray duster". i though it was just some gas, but when i spray over something, it leaves liquid on the surface, which then immediately evaporates. can i use it safely for removing dust from the inner parts of a laptop? can't the liquid be harmful to the hardware? the package just says it is meant for computer accessories and office equipment, but does not specify exactly what kind of equipment. I recently got a gigabit network installed in my house but I am consistently get less than 100mbps up and down (but I do have 0 ping when running speed tests). Works fine except weird start up and immediate shutdown Posted: 01 Jul 2018 10:48 PM PDT Hi all, Windows 10 Asus Strix Z370-E i7 8086K Nvidia 1060 6gb FE Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 8gb x 2 3600 Mhz RM750x Samsung 970 M.2 SSD 500gb 1TB HDD Experiencing a super weird issue. Upon turning the PSU on (via switch on PSU) and then clicking the power button on the PC, it will immediate start and instantaneously turn off. Right after that if I click again it starts up with no issues whatsoever. Have removed the RAM, GPU, and checked wiring to make sure everything has a correct connection. Very odd and not sure if its related to the PSU or not. All temps seem to be normal across the build. Any suggestions? Edit: It actually will turn off after a click on the initial bootup, and then within 2-3 seconds restart and work perfectly. [link] [comments]  |

| Laptop overheating when playing games plugged in Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:35 AM PDT Hi everyone, My laptop is overheating when I play games while plugged in, I am primarily playing Heroes of the Storm, league of legends, overwatch, wildstar. When playing at extremely low graphics that laptop doesn't really overheat, but if I start using medium-higher graphics my laptop starts to overheat and shut down. I want to be able to play these games at higher quality (because my graphics cards is capable of running them at higher quality, however due to the laptop overheating I can't). I've searched around A LOT for solutions to this problems. Googled it, youtubed it, asked /r/heroesofthestorm, but it's always the same answers, use a cooling fan/pad, check for dust in the fan. I've tried all of these, checked the fan, lowered the maximum fan speed while plugged in from 100% to 60% yet it still overheats. I've tried running eco mode, but that doesn't work either. | Keyboard Issue: Can't type in double letters Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:14 AM PDT So my laptop (Lenovo Flex 15-2)is not typing in double letters. The keyboard accepts one hit on the button, if you try to hit it a second time there is no response. On a third hit it will generate a 7 to 8 characters at once. It is not only one key every key behaves like this. I tried several issues. The first after googling was to change the windows settings for keyboards. I tried every possible setting. Then I used an old USB keyboard to see if it is the laptop keyboard. My old keyboard worked fine. So I ordered a new keyboard for the laptop and installed it, and the problem still persisted. As a general approach I formatted my system and now I do have the same problem in the BIOS. Does anyone have an Idea what it could be, my guess would be, that the motherboard is the problem, Or the connection from the keyboard on the mainboard. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]  |
| Help recovering formatted hard disk with testdisk/photorec Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:05 AM PDT Hello all, I accidentally formatted my 1TB Toshiba external hard disk while creating a live OS bootable usb with Fedora OS, I misclicked and selected my external disk instead of the usb pen. Now my external disk is shown as unallocated and the only files there are the live Fedora OS ones. I had about 250GB of very important files in that drive, so before doing anything with testdisk or photorec I'm asking for your guidance to the best approach possible, before messing up even more. | Synology SHR-1 vs RAID 5. Need advice. Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:00 AM PDT So right now I have a Synology DS918+ NAS and 1x 10 TB WD Red. My initial plan was to use a single 10 TB drive and buy more 10 TB drives later on, but I'm thinking I should probably buy a second 10 TB drive for the SHR-1 mirror. I know I can't use RAID 5 until I have 3 drives. So here are my questions... 1.) I know that RAID 5 uses striping and parity with 3 disks. I assume SHR-1 does as well? 2.) Ideally, I really wouldn't want to buy more than 2x 10 TBs for now because they're so expensive. But... I can make an exception to buy a third _IF_ it's worth the cost. a.) Is the striping and parity of a 3rd drive worth it? b.) Is there any other advantage of using 3x drives over 2 that I haven't mentioned? One user in another forum mentioned this: "Once you have three drives, the Synology can perform regular disk scrubs, pick up this silent data corruption and fix it." | Laptop going through something like ALS after reset Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:00 AM PDT This is the 2nd time this happened to me. Basically, once a year i do a system reset. I left it overnight to reset (5 hours; i sleep late) after i backed up my important files. When i woke up system was fine. I started the process (windows 10) of region, keyboard layout, wifi, etc. It's only when i reach the linking of my windows account where symptoms start to appear. First, my keyboard suddenly stops responding. Things i type don't get input on the text box. Then after a random interval, the mouse slowly stops responding too. It goes like mouse buttons (clicks, scrolls) don't register, then after a while the cursor stops moving too. This happens on both the track pad and the mouse. Since at that point i'm basically locked out of my laptop i have no idea what happens but i'm forever stuck at the screen at which i was last. I compare it to ALS cuz i find no better substitute for what's actually happening. One thing that puzzles me is that there's an indeterminable amount of time before my laptop freezes me out. Sometimes i get stuck within seconds of rebooting my PC (hard shutdown through power button during lock outs). And sometimes i have just enough time to get to the windows log in screen, but it always inevitably gets stuck during a loading screen after that (what i presume to be the last before it loads the OS to the desktop) and the loading circle thingy is moving but i have left it alone for an entire day (8-10 hours) on that loading screen with no progress. Now here's what stumps me. The first time it happened, i originally thought it was a driver problem. so i boot it up safe mode and update the drivers. No impact at all. So i give up after many google searches and leave my laptop alone for 1-2 weeks. On the day i was gonna take it to an expert to repair it i boot it up again and it RUNS SMOOTHLY. I have never experienced that problem again for the rest of the year and so i thought the problem was gone; so i reset my laptop again. Which brings me to this current situation. I would put down the exact specs but i don't have it memorised as i usually check the dxdiag or PC properties for that but here's. what i have remembered. HP Pavillion 15 Gaming Laptop Integrated Intel i7 (can't remember if it's dual core or quad core) 8GB Memory RAM 1TB Storage Space (with separate drive for OS) Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M This is my last hail mary before i either have it checked or trash it for a new one (but i'd really hate to replace this lappy ;_;) Thanks for the help and i will try to answer as many questions as you guys may have 😊 Edit: spelling corrections and grammatical errors [link] [comments]  |

| problem with usb-c to jack adapter Posted: 02 Jul 2018 03:38 AM PDT I have a sony compact xperia zx2, this came with a usb-c to jack adapter as it does not have a normal headphone jack. Recently i lost the adapter and bought a new one from a local store. When I use it it transmits power from the phone to the headphones wish creates a buzzing in the background (did not happen with the originals). I also get a notifacation in the menu that this is happening wich directs me to a submenu "for more options", but no options or any way to turn it off. Do any of you guys know a way to turn it off or some sort of workaround? If I have to buy a new one is there one you know to work propperly? [link] [comments]  |

| Background has a weird color on startup Posted: 02 Jul 2018 03:30 AM PDT Recently build a new PC, everything is mighty fine and fast. But when I power on the pc the background has some weird color. My graphics card is fine (both intel onboard and nvidia have been tested and have the latest drivers). I haven't noticed anything else, but just this weird 'bug'.
