Posted: 27 Jul 2018 05:52 PM PDT I have a windows domain at sporadically during the day and at same times during day a shut down command is initiated and give a large pop up and gives a critical error and windows must shit down command, in windows areo skem not cmd prompt. it is spreading through the domain. not sure where coming form but a spy-bot financial virus did attack the network a few days ago past a barracuda firewall. I am not completely positive if these two are related as windows give no true error for the shut down in event viewer. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 06:50 PM PDT I have a computer with a licensed windows 10, and yesterday I bought a new PC, wich comes with a 30-day trial Windows 10. My problem is that my licence is digital (I've got it back in 2016 when older windows versions could upgrade for free), so I don't have a key to activate my trial version. Is there a way for me to legally licence my new OS using my microsoft account? Is the only solution to transfer Windows 10, loosing it on my old computer? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 - Is it possible to download After Dark 4.x on? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 06:56 AM PDT I was wondering if After Dark is really installable on Windows 10. I know you can get the application online (and you can download it using the setup file located in the ADE folder), but the installer says it can't read file number 7 in the setup folder. It's missing AD_Snd.dll. Is there any way to get this file, perhaps from an old installation on a machine that it's meant for? EDIT: Apparently it wasn't missing AD_Snd.dll. There was a comment line that was put on the same line as the line dictating what the seventh setup file should be on download, thus rendering it unreadable. A simple extraction in PowerISO, an edit in your local text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, whatever), and a reconstruction of the ISO should fix it. However now it's having problems copying over AFTERDAR.scr. No problems with code as I can see. EDIT 2: I found out that I could use the same technique as in edit 1 to copy After Dark.scr to SysWOW64 (same with it's required DLL). And also, to change the screensaver, you need to copy over the screensavers from the same extracted folders, and put them in the After Dark folder from the install directory. Rename said folder to After Dark 4.0 (The "4.0" is added in the registry key contained in the directory, so changing this allows the registry key to find the .AD files). Going into the registry key, you can change "Flying Toasters!" to TOASTERS, MARBLES, etc. depending on which screensaver you want. After you choose the screensaver, save the key (or the .reg file if you're editing it in your text editor, keep in mind you'll have to install the key again), and you can have that screensaver selected. Keep in mind you'll have to do those last steps again if you want to change the screensaver again. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Jul 2018 08:05 PM PDT Hello! I've been using Windows 7 for quite a long time now, and I came across an really weird problem. Mouse clicking simply doesn't work. On Gimp, on Krita, and in a Java program named "Quake Injector", for downloading Quake mods. I tried changing the USB ports, re-installing mouse drivers, rebooting, trying other mouse, and it doesn't work. The mouse do work on other machines. Any possible fix? [link] [comments]

Windows 10 memory management bsods Posted: 27 Jul 2018 07:49 AM PDT Hello guys a week ago I decided to reinstall windows and update my bios, after that happened I started getting MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSODs. Before doing that my PC ran fine XMP profile was enabled and my ram was running at 3000mhz and my CPU was overclocked to 5ghz. But since updating my bios and reinstalling windows countless time because that might've been the problem I keep getting the memory management bsods This is yesterdays minidump ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+1da7aa fffff801 and this is todays ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+1da818 fffff802 Now here is what I've tried to fix this
I have no clue as to what the problem could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Edit: it seems to have been a bad stick of ram. re-installed windows again on a brand new drive and got a corrupted files error, switched the usb to a different port and same thing, switched the stick out and windows installed fine. I then downloaded aida 64 and ran it for 15 mins and no bsod, went into bios and enabled xmp and ran aida64 again for 15 mins and also no bsod. I don't even want to insert the second stick for fear of it breaking something, gonna email corsair and see if they can rma the one stick. [link] [comments]
Can't install apps, access regedit, or gpedit.msc on Windows 10 Pro Posted: 27 Jul 2018 07:00 AM PDT I have a Windows 10 Pro machine that I am unable to access the items mentioned in the title, even with an admin account. It's almost acting like it's connected to a domain where these things have been blocked, but it never has been. Trying to install a Xerox driver results in a "This app has been blocked by your system administrator" message. I've tried creating new admin accts but that doesn't work. I've used the default Administrator account and it won't work either. Any ideas before I wipe the machine and start over? [link] [comments]
BIOS update only restarts computer Posted: 27 Jul 2018 10:09 AM PDT Trying to do a BIOS update for a Dell 6330, but when I run the update, it only restarts the computer. I have made sure that it is the right version, and that all prerequisites have been met. Anyone ever hear of something like this? If so, what can I do to fix it? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2018 03:38 PM PDT Hey. I'm using Windows 8.1 (I know, it's awful) and for some reason all the icons on my desktop have disappeared. They're not hidden, I've checked that, and all the files are still there. Now, here's the fun part: All the icons still work, they're just invisible. I'm slightly confused. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Jul 2018 03:23 PM PDT This issue has been driving me crazy for the longest time. I finally would like to ask if there is a solution. I have a download folder with lots of files in it (sorted by date modified) so recent/new downloads are on top. The issue is that if I download a zip/rar/etc and then extract it, it will be grouped with the folders section at the bottom. This isn't a big deal in of itself, but if I type in the name of the archive I just extracted, in hopes of jumping to the newly created folder folder, windows instead will remain highlighting the archive I just extracted. This makes the newly created folder time consuming to annoying to navigate into. As a workaround I can do either of the following 1) Type in the name into the search box and find both results 2) Sort by "date modified" then shift click "name" to bring the folder grouping to the top instead 3) Scroll the the bottom and manually find the folder the issue with both the solutions is that: 1) this process is slow 2) If I use the trick to bring the folders to the top, I still have to resort by "name" then "date modified" next time I download something so I can get relevant new downloads at the top where I expect them to be. 3) this process is both slow and annoying What I am looking for is either a way to interleave folders with the rest of the files OR if I start typing in the name of an archive, I would like windows to highlight the corresponding folder instead of the archive. I literally am failing at using windows explorer effectively (or maybe running into a design flaw.) Any windows guru got a solution. It's driving me crazy each time I deal with an archive. If there some hotkey I can press so windows can jump to the next potential/contextual match when typing in the file name???!? (TAB doesn't work) [link] [comments]
Lenovo Yoga 720: Is it worth it for $400 USD?? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 03:07 PM PDT I found a Lenovo Yoga 720 on Craigslist for $400 USD. The specs are the following:
Is it worth it for the price? I am trying to get rid of my 2010 MacBook Pro 13", and have tried Windows 10. (FYI: I know the Lenovo Yoga 730 exists, but I found it to but too costly, and there are more similarities than differences.) Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]
Let me ask you something about Winzip. Posted: 27 Jul 2018 02:55 PM PDT Lots of people install it reflexively, but I've honestly never seen the point. Windows since XP can create and extract ZIP files, after all, so for most use cases you literally don't need it. And when I help those people, and try to quickly unzip an archive for them, I find WinZip's context menu to be slower and more awkward than the default Windows version. With native Zip support, it's trivial to unzip "Achive.zip" to a folder called ".\Archive" -- but with Winzip, it's more effort. It's not a LOT more effort, but it's enough to annoy me. But that's beside the point. I was helping a colleague today who'd installed WinZip, but let the trial lapse, and realized that, with WinZip in place, there was no way to get to the default Windows behavior at all. I mean, I guess we could've just uninstalled Winzip, but I didn't want to go that far. Not my machine, after all. I ended up opening (not extracting) the zip with Explorer and dragging the contents to another folder, but that was hella awkward. So, my question is, How the hell do you get the default Windows unzip context menu BACK once some poor bastard has installed Winzip? [link] [comments]

Why does Windows install updates on startup too? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 09:50 AM PDT Whenever you have an update for Windows 10 on shut down, it does the update before you shut down, but then when you turn it back on it has to finish up the updates. Why can't it just do these "finishing up" parts on the shut down? Even if it was something about the computer needing to boot, couldn't it just reboot and finish the update before it officially "shuts down"? [link] [comments]
Does Microsoft ever planning to fix shutdown Posted: 27 Jul 2018 03:48 AM PDT Bought a new asus gx503 gaming laptop. Installed chrome. Tried to restart and stuck on restart screen. Its just a case. But in my experience with windows i end up using hard power off more often than restarting or shutting down a computer. Because in my mind i don't trust windows will successful reboot or shutdown. When i say shutdown, i don't care what apps im running , i want it to shutdown. Why can't the Microsoft ever figure out shutting down a computer?? [link] [comments]
Switching application dual monitors Posted: 26 Jul 2018 11:10 PM PDT Is there any way to move an application from one monitor to another monitor without using the initial monitor at all. Sometimes if a game crashes my monitor will freeze up and if I can close the game in task manager it will be fine but task manager only opens on my frozen monitor. I can interact with my second monitor but not move task manager over. Is there anyway of moving the application over without interacting with the monitor it is open on? [link] [comments] |
