Anyone here do/learning how to do motherboard component level repair? Posted: 30 Jul 2018 04:18 PM PDT Hi guys, This something that, although I'd probably be better off focusing more on my IT support side of the business, I find very interesting and would love to know more. I watch the electronics repair school channel on YouTube, as well as channels' like Louis Rossmann's. Do you guys know of any other good training resources for narrowing down and repairing motherboard level issues? For example, I have an old HP desktop right now that won't output video. I can swap out ram, video card, PSU, cpu, etc until I narrow down to a motherboard problem but would love to know how to fix the motherboard without replacing it. I'd rather take some time and make $100-$150 bucks from jobs like these then tell them it's a motherboard and they decide it's not worth replacing with some cheap used one online. [link] [comments] |
question about Dell part numbers Posted: 30 Jul 2018 12:37 PM PDT I normally can sort this out myself, but in trying to make sure I get the right thing here, I am kind of at a loss for this particular repair. Machine is a Dell XPS 13 9350. I need to replace the palm rest assembly because the internal hinge mount completely broke from it. Since Dell doesn't have a parts department like HP does, usually it is ebay or parts-people to get the needed part. So if I plug in the service tag on Dell's support site and go to system configuration, it lists the palmrest as X54FF ASSEMBLY, PALMREST, 80, 9350 However, when I took apart the laptop, I found the palmrest had part number PHF36 Looking up either one brings up the palm rest and I cannot find a difference between them. There is another model number floating around as well 43WXK, which again looks the same, and a bunch of ebay listings list more than one of these part numbers in their listing info (but I have found out the hard way you can't trust that part sellers on ebay know what they are talking about). How do you guys normally deal with this? Do you just get nothing but the exact model number part you pull from the laptop? Can I trust the dell configuration page that X54FF is compatible even though the part in the laptop has a different number? Currently im waiting for a dell support chat, but I have a feeling they won't be able to help me confirm this. As to why I don't just buy the exact part PHF36 for what I have physically here, I can't find one listed in "new" condition, but I can find the X54FF listing in new condition (that ships from the US, I don't buy from China, I've had parts take 2 months to get here).
