    Hey everyone!

There was some discussion on the monthly Android distribution numbers post about doing a survey on here to see how our results compare to the ones from Google. The poll takes a couple of seconds to fill out on Straw Poll. Thanks to everyone who participates!

I was hands on today with a Samsung Note 9. My impressions, specs, and AMA!

    Posted: 26 Jul 2018 02:33 PM PDT

I was hands on with a Samsung Note 9 (codename Crown). First some specs on the device:

Storage: 128GB base- 2 more options for memory sizes. The rep was not specific on the sizes but said might be up to 512GB.

SOC: Rep was not specific on SOC and settings did not reveal particulars. He said it was similar to the S9 though.

RAM: 6GB base, potentially another 8GB model available

Camera: Same as the S9 but they've added OIS to the rear cameras and included some new AI features to optimize photos depending on the subject.

And finally, Battery: 4000mAh. They claim usage of up to 4-5 days. We shall see.

Some other new features: the S Pen is now Bluetooth controlled. The pen button can be used to control actions like taking a photo, skipping forward or back in music, moving forward in a PowerPoint presentation. The Note also has DeX built in now which can control up to 5 (I believe?) windows at once but can be docked into a DeX device to control up to 20 at once.

edit: Another feature I forgot to mention is the Note 9 will support Vulkan API. Samsung has plans to support "AAA titles" on the Note and will have some exclusive titles for Galaxy, one of which will be a high profile Vulkan game (Doom?). They are now trying to compete with Asus and Razer in the mobile gaming market.

The phone I saw was dark blue, similar to the Note 5 color of blue. The metal edges were the same shade, yet strangely the S Pen had a blue "cap" and a banana yellow body. Maybe to make it harder to lose?

I had only about 10 minutes hands on with the device so I got very surface level impressions on it, but overall I think it is a solid improvement over the current Note and a small refinement of some things already present on the S9 models.

Please send any questions you may have my way and I'll do my best to answer them from what I saw and explored in my short hands on.

    Thanks!
