My friend is texting a number that, when I text, Verizon claims is a landline. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:13 AM PDT My friend is receiving messages from an anonymous number that clearly knows both of us, that we cannot figure out. I attempted texting it, but only received a message from Verizon telling me that 'this number is a landline.' I decided to bite the bullet and send the landline text with Verizon's Text to Landline, but it wouldn't go through. Any reasons for this occurring? Thanks. Edit: I was thinking, is it possible that this is a burner number (not a spoofed number) that was dropped? [link] [comments] |
Disabling S.M.A.R.T to attempt saving my HDD. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 01:13 AM PDT Ok, so here's the facts: I have a WD 2TB external hard drive, that carries literally years of my life in it. Had consistent problems with it over the years because of a faulty USB port and a flimsy cable. After pressuring myself for so long over it, I finally cracked open the POS and took the drive out; buying a new SATA cable and installed it into my new PC. Thought the nightmare was over, until I booted up the PC; "S.M.A.R.T Status: BAD, Backup and Replace". Tried looking online for a solution, and found I could disable the S.M.A.R.T function in BIOS. Unfortunately my BIOS is UEFI and not legacy, so I don't know how to find or see what I'm looking for. My motherboard is an ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1, and I use Windows 7. Anyone advanced with the UEFI BIOS who can help me? I need to disable it temporarily so I can attempt to grab all my very important files off the harddrive, while I save up for a new one. My current hard drive doesn't have the capacity for all of it, so I just want the stuff I can get now. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Can't install windows on Samsung nvme m.2 960, cant install windows period. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:09 AM PDT I wanted to reformat so i started up the win 10 boot with my win 10 usb to install on my Samsung m.2 960 nvme. Everything was going fine until at about halfway through I got a error saying windows failed to install required files, 0x80070570. I didnt understand this since I've installed w8n 10 on this same drive with the same usb before. From here I went to bios, changed some settings, enabled 8.1/10 whql mode, disabled fast boot, reset the secure boot keys to the best of my knowledge, turned raid on, m.2 genie on to try and install through raid route rather than achi. When doing thia the drive doesnt even show up when i get to the installation part of the win 10 install. I'm at a loss of what yo do ive tries every method I can find in forums and etc. My MB is a z270 m3, bios is up to date as of 1/24/2018 Help is much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Laptop doesn't recognize Harddrive as bootable device. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:01 PM PDT Could really use help, my laptop recently stopped booting properly. It would go into the Dell system analysis, says there is no hardware issues and that OS was likely corrupt. So I downloaded Windows media on a USB and ran windows install, which was able to identify the hard drive and reinstall windows. Yet even after this the same issue is happening, it can't detect a bootable device. I even tried installing windows on a new hard drive, and the install was successful but as soon as I removed the USB the same issue is occurring. Any ideas why windows installer can find the hard drive but the computer can't boot from it? [link] [comments] |
Registry editor asks for admin permission on every startup. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 03:16 AM PDT Whenever I start my computer this appears in my cmd and my registry editor asks for administrator permission. It says something about Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, a game that I no longer have installed on my computer. As far as I know I think this is harmless but it's quite annoying to have to fix it on every startup. [link] [comments] |
Can someone tell me what's wrong with my monitor please? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 01:00 AM PDT I've never seen this before and the monitor is only 9 months old or so. It's the OMEN by HP 27. https://i.imgur.com/E3KTGOe.jpg The slight color fading going horizontally at the top. (Ignore the lines, that's just from discord. The fading only shows up well enough to see on dark backgrounds.) If there's any other information required, I'll provide it, just not sure what else to mention at the moment. Thank you for your time. [link] [comments] |

Computer technicians needed, water damage repair Posted: 29 Jun 2018 02:01 AM PDT I spilled water on my MSI GE72 6QF APACHE PRO (2000US$ 2½years ago) laptop (while it was on), and at start the screen shut down, keyboard stop functioning, and stuff. At first I used hair dryer to dehumidify initially, opened up the laptop, and used paper towel to dry the water drops, and set it 24hours in a big bag of rice.Next day I put it together, and fire it up, and the keyboard is only partially working (5-7keys). I used the computer regardless of this for about two months before buying an desktop, and it had no issues while playing demanding games as BF1, PUBG. I went to MSI Repair Service (official) and asked them to replace the keyboard and some cheap visuals. And today I got call saying the mother board has corrosion. They told to replace the motherboard initially (cost of 1,223US$), but then said it would actually be better to just buy a new laptop. I am wondering if replace the keyboard, should the keyboard work (Total cost of 250US$) ?? opinions?? If that doesn't work, I feel like it is just additional cost to buy a new laptop. I can also ask them for pictures of the damage if anybody knows more of the motherboards logistics. [link] [comments] |

I'm at my wits end dealing with this. Networking was never my strong suit. For the past week or so, I've been having constant DNS issues and I can't figure out how to fix it. Chrome will just not load a page, some other programs will disconnect, Windows network troubleshooting will just say its DNS issue explanation (although the networking icon still shows 'Connected' and not the little error triangle), and I can ping 8.8.8.8 no problem but if I ping google.com it always fails. Also the DNS Client service in my Task Manager starts to consume a good bit of CPU, although this is probably expected behavior right? Basically I can't determine where the problem lies between my WLAN adapter (which is new, I replaced it about a month ago but it worked fine up until this issue started up), the router, or my ISP. I feel like it must be my WLAN adapter because I wouldn't be able to ping 8.8.8.8 if it were a DNS issue on the router/ISP's end, right? I've tried:
and doing every combination of:
And also checking for OS issues with DISM and sfc. I don't really have a phone or any other devices on the network I can test when this happens, and even if I did I wouldn't be sure how else to fix it. So I'm not sure where else to go from here. Suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Wiring DSL from Scratch: Where to Begin Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:40 AM PDT Hello, I just moved into my home, and the DSL cable is CAT3 and unshielded in four areas due to a security system, poorly wired jack, and a damaged NID. All I'd like is a well-shielded CAT6 cable running the sixty feet from the ISP's "drop" to the modem for DSL. I don't have phone service, nor do I need provisions for it. What would be the highest quality components to get this job done? From my understanding, I need a Network Interface Device to connect from the ISP's "drop." This will be outside and right next to their cable that pokes out of their PVC pipe. The current box doesn't seal and is filled with bugs and debris. I'll extend the PVC to the opening in a new box that closes to solve this. From there, and since I don't need phone, can I just run a CAT6 cable from the NID and into the house and directly into a jack? I'll find a wiring diagram for the jack. From the jack, it goes into the modem. Do I need any filters or additional hardware? Can someone link their preferred hardware to do the job right? Thanks for your time. Edit: I have 80mbps/10mbps from CenturyLink. [link] [comments] |
Very weird connectivity issues Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:39 AM PDT So every web page I go to works, discord, steam, twitch, everything seems to work fine EXCEPT Battlenet launcher. It won't update. Stuck at "Updating Battlenet 0%" I have two PCs and it doesn't work on either one. Tried re-downloading and it gets stuck on "Updating Launcher" then I get a timeout error. ALSO. I can't access nvidia.com to reinstall specific drivers. Every other website works, its just that one. As well as Netflix on my Xbox, although I can watch Netflix on my PC. Everything is updated. Updated all drivers, tried resetting modem about 10 times, hard reset Xbox and I've tried re-installing the effected software. Have also tried turning windows Firewall off and back on and still no luck accessing nvidia website or battlenet. It must be a network issue as it is effecting both my computers and Xbox. One PC is direct connect and one is on Wi-Fi btw. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Could I install an OS onto a new computer via an external hard drive or would I need a USB stick? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:37 AM PDT Possibly a stupid question since they're kind of the same thing, storage plugged in to a usb slot but I want to make sure. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:34 PM PDT Hi All, So I recently made a post about putting in a new GPU and having some boot cycling problems. However, I fixed that by clearing the CMOS and changing a cable out. Now though, after replacing the CPU cooler because my temps were getting kind've bad on my CPU, I'm getting a whole new problem. The PC won't output a signal to monitor from anywhere. I have tried both the old and new GPU and the integrated graphics and it wont output a signal. It does output lights to my keyboard but not my mouse. I have two different monitors, one running on HDMI and the other on Display port. Here is a short list of the troubleshooting steps I have tried Removing GPU entirely and using integrated graphics Using the new GTX 1080 Using the old GTX 970 Reseating all ram with integrated and with GPU Removed all ram sticks with integrated and GPU Left one ram stick for both integrated and GPU (ran multiple test switching out the slots the ram is in and the sticks themselves) Checked for any pinched cables in the back Reseating 24 pin power and 4 pin cpu power reseating cables into PSU (power supply is modular) If anyone has any ideas let me know. All parts were purchased in 2016 with the exception of the 1080 I7 4790k Gtx 1080 MSIB85m-G43 Micro atx board 1tb PNY SSD CX750m Corsair PSU New cooler: Cryorig M9 Previous cooler: H60 AIO cooler with a noisey pump Used the thermal paste that came with the M9 cooler [link] [comments] |

Unable to interact with device through telnetting Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:21 AM PDT To elaborate a little more on the title, I'm trying to access a device through a console port. After navigating the command line and selecting the appropriate port number, it gives me a message which implies I am connected but I am unable to type anything or escape unless I close the window. Wondering if anyone know why this may be? [link] [comments] |
How do I tell if my in-wall phone jack supports Ethernet? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:45 PM PDT My in-wall phone jack has a cat-5 connection, but how can I tell if it supports Ethernet, and is there a way to add/create Ethernet support without digging into my walls? [link] [comments] |
Computer boots up but monitor stays black. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:09 PM PDT Hi I've encountered a problem this morning regarding my monitor. Before I went to bed last night it was working fine as per normal. When I tried to turn the computer on this morning, it booted up, however, my monitor just remained black. I have no idea how to remedy this situation. When I connect my monitor to the Motherboard using a DVI cable and it works fine but when I plug it back into my dedicated GPU it just says no signal. I've also read forums where they say to hold the power button for awhile while the computer is unplugged but to no avail. Any idea why this is happening and how do I rectify it? Any help would be appreciated! Edit: it was left alone for only 4 hours, and it was fine before. Is it possible that it is a software issue? Would formatting help? [link] [comments] |
Moving HDD with OS to new computer Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:05 AM PDT Hey guys. Just wondering if it could be possible to remove my current HDD and put it in the new computer? It had Windows 8 then 10 due to the free upgrade. [link] [comments] |
Laptop refuses to connect to wifi or Ethernet and I have no idea why Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:05 AM PDT My parents gave me this laptop since they don't use it anymore, and I was hoping to use it for video and music editing and stuff, but I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Literally nothing I do in the settings will turn the wifi on. Normally I'd shrug it off and use Ethernet like everything else but most of the time even that goes out. I went to the wifi settings in the settings menu and turned the slider to "On" and tried checking for networks but the wifi widget on the task bar doesn't even show up for me to check. When I hit "show available networks" a short wifi window pops up trying to connect to the wifi at my parents house, and then ultimately tells me that the wifi is still off anyway. I'm not as smart as y'all with computers and this is a tough one for me, any help or fixes FOR WIFI OR ETHERNET CONNECTIVITY would be greatly appreciated Cheers y'all Ps obviously if you have any questions about stuff just ask I'll get back to you asap [link] [comments] |
HP Z2 Mini G3 Workstation - internal serial port adapter Posted: 29 Jun 2018 03:59 AM PDT Hi, i have a Z2 G3 Mini Workstation of a client and he wants to mount an internal serial port. He even ordered the ports - but they came without the (proprietary HP) cable. The catch is - officially the Z2G3mini can be factory-built with the serial port but not upgraded later. The client opened up the HP Top config tool and ordered the part no. of the serial port addon. We just need the part no. of that little cable that goes from the PCB to the MB. HP doesnt want to help because this is not an official procedure, and if we tell them that we need it as replacement they ask for the S/N of the machine with the built in port... Do you have any suggestion? We even used all the HP tools like Partsurfer and read many PDF's, it insn't mentioned anywhere. [link] [comments] |
Groove Music doesn't show album cover. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 03:55 AM PDT I can't even add them manually. Googled and couldn't find the right solution to fix it. Asked Discord chat for any help but didn't get any reply, I don't blame. [link] [comments] |
Turtle Beach Recon 50x headphones either play little sound or none at all, brand new Posted: 29 Jun 2018 03:55 AM PDT I figured this should go in tech support and not gaming. Apologies if I was wrong there. Anyway I just bought a new pair of Turtle Beach headphones as I love playing game with immersive sound. They seemed to work well at first but I noticed after a day or two that only the menu sounds, like scrolling through Xbox Home, would pop up in the head phones. I've somehow gotten to get game sound to work 2 or 3 times since then. I guess additional info would be that I have two controllers, one has a 3.5 mm headset jack and the other has a headset adapter. I can only remember it working while plugged into the adapter, but that doesn't mean it always works (FYI the headset plugs into your controller if you didn't know) and it's almost worse than a hit or a miss now. To top it all off I unknowingly threw away my receipt for it so no take backs. Could it be something in my sound settings? I really don't know. Cheers everyone, hopefully you can save me $40 bucks! Posted: 29 Jun 2018 03:49 AM PDT Hi all, I'm looking for some suggestions for the following set-up. I'd like a 4K monitor to do photo editing, but I won't game at 4K, I will reduce the resolution to HD to play some games. I'd like it to be bright 300+ Ideally with built in speakers Adobe RGB/sRGB as high as possible for the photo editing Fast response and Hz As small as possible as my desk isn't huge 27" or less Budget around £500-600 but cheaper is always good! Thanks. [link] [comments] |
