Used personal laptop to do homework on company's wifi using google chrome.

    Posted: 01 May 2018 01:26 AM PDT

I was wondering if they can view my bookmarks or search history while using company's wifi? I know google chrome can sometimes transfer information over from computer to computer, but what if I brought my own computer and connected to the company's wifi? What would show up?

Old Gmail account was hacked and stolen. Googles account recovery process can't verify that I am the owner. Anything I can do here?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:00 PM PDT

Every once in a while I'd get an email on the linked recovery account saying an attempt to access it was thwarted, but then suddenly one night I got three emails in a row that it was accessed, password changed and account recovery email changed. The account recovery process is useless. Is there anything I can do? Any hidden support or contact that google offers through which I can seek to regain access to this account, at the very least to see what if my information may have been exposed and shut down the account?

My mic is just static no voice HEEEELPPPP MEEEE PLEASE <3

    Posted: 01 May 2018 03:48 AM PDT

Hey i just built my new pc today, and i cant really make sense of it not willing to take an older model headset i had from my old pc. It is the steelseries Siberia v2. It works fine on my old pc and when i connect it to my new pc with windows 10, it just doesnt pick up any sound, and if it does it is just static or me shouting into it where my friends can barely make out what i am saying (the rest of the people in my town can hear it though.)

I have tried changing the volume and booster stuff in the recording tab of windows and it just makes it even harder for the mic to pick up on my voice.

I tried rolling back my driver doesnt help, i have tried reinstalling, doesnt help, i cant help but think it is a problem with my motherboard or my software

Is this the reason this USB stick is showing as 0 bytes and not working?

    Posted: 01 May 2018 03:30 AM PDT

Hi, I have a usb memory stick which makes a sound when plugged in, shows in My Computer but is greyed out and shows as 0 bytes. I have opened it up and noticed this...

I'm no expert, but is this a blown fuse resistor? If so, does anyone know where I can get a replacement so I can try replace it?

    Thank you :)

    Lenovo K330 - Boots with 5 beeps

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 08:40 PM PDT

I have a Lenovo K330 desktop that boots with 5 beeps. Lenovo claims that 5 beeps means that the processor has failed. I ordered a new processor, a similar one and I am still getting the 5 beeps. I reinstalled the processor in the right direction with the right amount of thermal grease. I took out the RAM and got beep codes that indicated, there was a RAM issue, which was continuous long beeps until shut down. I thought it might be a power supply, so I connected a power supply that I know works and plugged it in. I am still getting the beeps. I was able to get it to boot once out of luck in the beginning, but after the one time, that was it. Could it be the motherboard and not the processor? All of the components seem to be turning on.

How do companies check what caused a laptop to malfunction when it comes to warranties?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 08:34 PM PDT

Long story short, unplugged something from my motherboard without knowing my laptop was on, and it's being sent back to the factory to be fixed, assuming the damage is within my warranty. How are they able to determine what causes the motherboard to fry?

Looking for an offline solution for sharing large amounts of data between office PC's (all PC's are in one room)

    Posted: 01 May 2018 01:30 AM PDT

My company works with 3D laser scan data, which can be TB's in size. The data is shared among 4 colleagues using portable hard drives, and I'm looking for a better solution. What about a NAS drive sitting in the middle of the office with each laptop connected to it via Ethernet cable; would that work? It is not necessary for the data to be available online. The data is heavy and needs to be retrievable via fast transfer speeds, that's why I'm thinking Ethernet cables. I'm basically looking for some sort of central offline hard drive that multiple computers can connect to. Thanks,

What should I use to glue the feet back to the bottom of my laptop?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 08:49 PM PDT

Hi there, sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for hardware issues.

Recently the rubber foot on the bottom of my laptop started to fall off. It looks like the rubber foot may have expanded a bit due to heat and that caused it to start to pop off. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a glue or an adhesive that would be able to keep the foot on the bottom of the laptop and be able to withstand the heat from the laptop.

I have attached a photo of the laptop below.

Mouse moves on its own when a controller is plugged in

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 05:22 PM PDT

I use a Dell Inspiron laptop (I don't know any specs) and use Windows 10. When I plug in an xbox controller to my laptop using a cord or wireless the mouse just moves down the screen making it close to impossible to use. I have used many cords, it doesn't change it. I've used 5 different controllers, 2 make it move slower but for the most part still useless. I don't have another computer test it on to see if that changes it. I really would like to use my computer again help me. I couldn't find anything like this by searching it. If you need more info ask, I don't know what else I should put.

Does charging frequently affect battery life? What about leaving it charging overnight? Or depleting the battery?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2018 05:43 AM PDT

Might sound like something a grandma born in the 1930s might ask, but I wanted to know for sure.

Does charging frequently damage the battery in the long run? Will it make the battery hold less eventually?

And would charging overnight or fully depleting the battery also damage it in the long run?

    Thanks for the answers folks.

AMD Ryzen 1800x and it's ram issues.

    Posted: 01 May 2018 02:26 AM PDT

    I current run this setup.

    Ryzen 7 1800x

Asus Prime x370-Pro (With newest bios update)

    G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200 C16 DC - 16GB (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR)

I have only been able to put my ram at a speed at 2400. After that I have boot problems. So I want to get new rams, and just buy my way out of this issue.

What ram should I buy, that can run at 3200mhz with that CPU/Mobo combo?

disclaimer: I know shit about Ram/Mobo

Can't set up my child's microsoft account?

    Posted: 01 May 2018 01:21 AM PDT

    Hello,

Recently I've noticed that my child's been getting messages that he needs to sign back in on his Microsoft account to enable full access. However, he needs a parent to spend 50 cents via credit card to verify it. I don't have a credit card, so I'm unsure how to do it on his laptop.

Today I logged in on his account on Microsoft's official website and got the same message. I had two options:

    • Send a mail to an adult (I tried this, but the mail never arrived)

    • Continue with a parent nearby.

I chose the second option as the first one didn't work, and I was redirected to a website that didn't exist.

How am I supposed to give my child's account full access when there are no ways to do it? If any of you knows how to do this then I'd like to hear it

    Thanks in advance!

Attempting to move HDD to a different PC, trying to reinstall Windows 7 but having difficulty

    Posted: 01 May 2018 04:14 AM PDT

Apologies but these are the only specs I know without checking in windows itself:

    CPU: AMD Radeon A8-7600 4 core 3.1GHz

    RAM: Crucial DDR3L 1600 UDIMM 8GB

    Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88M-HD+

I originally bought a pre-built computer, and used it for a year or so. At that point, my brother was building a new PC, so I transferred the HDD from my computer to his old one. Apparently that should have caused problems, but it didn't. Now, a few years later, my brother's old PC that I was using is having some hardware failure, so I am trying to move the HDD back to the original PC that I bought. This time, I seem to be having the troubles I probably should have got the first time I transferred, with Windows startup not getting beyond the loading screen, and then bringing up the startup repair options. I have a Windows 7 installation disk that I am trying to use to reinstall it on the original PC, but have been unsuccessful thus far.

At this point, I have attempted to change the boot order to no avail. I assume there is something to do with the CD/DVD drivers not being compatible that is preventing me from booting from CD. Startup repair and system restores haven't worked either. I do have access to a command prompt window via advanced options from the startup repair. Cannot load via safe mode.

So my question is, how to I use the disk to reinstall Windows? Is this possible? Or do I have to create a bootable USB? I do have a laptop and USB that I can use to make one if I have to.

    Thanks.

    Router randomly resets configurations.

    Posted: 01 May 2018 03:40 AM PDT

Hello reddit tech support, The problem i seem to have is that everytime my router restarts it resets its configurations to default.

Now while reading the manual i read that the router will go back to default settings unless it has settings saved in a USB stick in the router.

So i did a back up to my settings put them in a usb stick in the router but the problem still persists (sometimes the router will go back to default settings without being restarted).

How do i load them from usb automatically?.

Router is Comtrend vr-3038u updated the firmware to its latest version.

    Tracking down a FPS problem

    Posted: 01 May 2018 03:31 AM PDT

I'm having trouble tracking down a FPS problem, say you're playing at 60fps its smooth no hitches then you turn around or something comes into view and you drop to 53-54fps for a second or two, what would cause that? a problem with the hard drive, gpu, cpu or maybe not enough ram?. This happens in most of my games, I've cleaned my computer of dust,I tried lowering settings, setting power options to high, using kb+m instead of a controller, defragmenting hard drives, putting the game on a SSD.

This isn't gamebreaking in anyway nor does it stop me from enjoying games but by god is it such a annoying thing that happens and not being able to find the problem.

How does Reddit handle image uploads? For some reason whenever I try to upload an image there it doesn't work.

    Posted: 01 May 2018 03:24 AM PDT

I don't know if it's worth noting, but I have WebRTC and WebGL disabled along with local cache disabled on my browser.

While uploading on Reddit doesn't work, I can safely say that I can upload images on Imgur.

The browser I am using is Firefox ESR 52.6.0, I hated the new design of Firefox, so I switched over from the commercial version to the ESR version.
