Free/cheap calling app that doesn't require SMS verification? Have no service currently. Posted: 03 May 2018 07:53 PM PDT I'm currently without phone service; I haven't needed my phone for the past 2 months and it will be another month or so before I have service again. Is there an app that I can use to make calls (aside from Facebook, Snapchat, etc) with a phone number? I don't need texting or voice mail even. I can pay pennies per minute too. Any app I've looked at asks for my current number to send an SMS confirmation code, which I can't receive without an active number. I need something simple that can allow me to make calls and receive them over wifi. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 07:41 AM PDT I've had a galaxy s8+ for a few months now and I've noticed that there are an abundance of ads which is fine developers need to make money some how but ads on my home screen too? I'll have all apps closed completely and every so often I'll get ads while I'm just on my home screen. It happens when I just unlock my phone and when I leave it be. Is this just something that happens? Or is it something worse? [link] [comments] |
Any way to make an app think I don't have Xposed installed? Posted: 03 May 2018 10:13 PM PDT So this app won't work when Xposed and magisk are installed, there's a way to hide magisk but what about Xposed? Thanks [link] [comments] |
How do I use my external SD card to store apps? Posted: 03 May 2018 11:48 AM PDT When I bought my phone, I bought an 60gb or whatever mini SD card to put in the little slide out tray so I could have more storage. So I started storing videos and crap on there. My phone only has like 8gb internal and I keep running out of room on that to install more apps and apparently I can't just move apps to the SD card to free up more room on the internal memory. Somebody had said that you have to format the extra SD card to be able to do that? So should I just copy everything I have on the SD card to the computer, and then format the SD card so I can install apps on the SD card and then move all the stuff back to the SD card and be able to use it for both apps and video storage, etc? And if so, how do I go about doing that. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Factory Bypass Protection on a Samsung? Posted: 03 May 2018 09:16 PM PDT My family member gave me a Samsung phone that they found. I tried to format it through the bootloader but when the phone restarted, it gave me this thing called Factory Bypass Protection. How do I get passed it? [link] [comments] |
Need help, getting weird pop ups on OxygenOS Posted: 03 May 2018 08:50 PM PDT Don't have much of a clue what started this, but I have been getting various popups in a little grey bubble at the bottom of my screen. I think it started when I last updated my OS, but I couldn't tell you for sure. I have a One Plus 5 running Android 8.1.0 and OxygenOS 5.1.1. The popups look like this: SCREENSHOT (this one occurs every time I unlock my phone) Often, the popups will read "Failed CPU Usage" or "Internet Connection Unavailable". One time an app I recently downloaded called 7 Weeks actually used this same popup bubble. The app is about creating habits and you have to choose the amount of days per week you will do this habit and when I tried to make the number of days "0", this same little grey bubble popped up and told me, "You can't make a habit in 0 days a week!". So it seems like this app is using whatever this grey bubble thing is and possibly has caused my phone to use it all the time in different scenarios? It did cross my mind to delete the app and see if the problems persists, but I have a decent amount of data stored in the app and don't want to lose it quite yet. Thought I would ask around here first to see if anyone knew... A.) what these popups are? B.) if they are a problem? and most importantly... C.) HOW TO TURN THEM OFF!!?? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 07:41 PM PDT Why is so hard for Google to offer a sub 5 inch Pixel phone? Would pay top dollar for this. The SE is the best looking and easiest to use one handed phone available but can't stand iPhone/iOS. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 07:34 PM PDT I was hoping someone could tell me why/how to fix my phone from freezing whenever I try to rotate my phone. The phone is only a week old and this problem happens every time I go to rotate it and I've never had this problem on any other phone. If there is already a thread for this I'd appreciate the link loads. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Playing sound from speakers and headphones at the same time Posted: 03 May 2018 01:34 PM PDT My headphones don't usually work on my Laptop but i just got Android x86 and now they work, but the sound is playing trough the laptop's speakers AND from the headphones, there is no delay, but i don't want to annoy my neighbours. I'm using Android Nougat 7.1.2 (x86) from the official Android x86 website. [link] [comments] |
My phone is making notification sounds, but when I check it, there are no notifications. Help? Posted: 03 May 2018 06:32 PM PDT My phone is making sounds, but when I check it, there's nothing there. How can I figure out what app is doing this? Is there a way to record all alerts/notifications to see if I can figure out what is making these sounds? It's always the default sound, so I can't guess what it is. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7. [link] [comments] |
What's the downside of clearing cache data in Storage settings? Posted: 03 May 2018 06:31 PM PDT I think some apps like YouTube and Maps have to reload their stuff because of that. But is there a downside by doing this? [link] [comments] |
Skype notifications not reliably getting through Posted: 03 May 2018 05:07 PM PDT Hey guys, After a few days of no use, Skype is automatically put in the background and notifications are not reliably pushed. This is a problem because my clients' issues, while few in number, are usually time sensitive. How can I force Android and/or Skype to make Skype be "always on"? I have already turned off data saver and changed other options I could easily find, but honestly I'm relatively new to having a high-end smartphone (S6) and despite being a web developer, I find this interface counterintuitive and frustrating ever since the major update, so I've probably missed something important. Also can I just say I really hate Skype in general? I wish business clients would be open to using better communications apps... Thanks for reading, hope you can help. [link] [comments] |
I'm using a g950f (dreamlte) RiCE ROM and my phone won't boot Posted: 03 May 2018 05:05 PM PDT I followed the steps outlined here when installing Rice ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/samsung-galaxy-s8--s8-cross-device-development/recovery-twrp-galaxy-s8-exynos-t3595102 then after setting up my phone I booted to recovery made a backup, then tried to boot to system and it couldn't boot past the Samsung logo, it just black screened. Posted: 03 May 2018 10:58 AM PDT Hey everyone, I have a small problem with music on Google assistant. When I say, for example: play artist on music player, it only works with some players (like phonograph, Samsung music) but doesn't work with Retro music player or Vinyl music player - it opens some YouTube video, sometimes completely unrelated. Is it because they just do not support that or is there a way to make it work, maybe there is a better way to say that? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Set default apps to open from Google Voice Search Posted: 03 May 2018 01:09 PM PDT For example: Spotify to play music, Waze to drive, etc. Right now when I ask for music, TuneIn launches (Google Play Music is disabled) and Google Maps is set for driving. Is there any way to change this? EDIT: Android 7.1 [link] [comments] |
Wake phone from standby with 'OK Google' Posted: 03 May 2018 04:44 PM PDT Hi, I can't seem to get my phone to 'wake' when the screen goes off by saying 'ok google'. It works straight away if I tap my phone, it will unlock. I just can't figure out how to get it to listen while the screen is off. The device is on charge, 100% battery Running 8.0.0 Sony F5321 (X Compact) I tried to look in battery management to see if I needed to add an exception to something, but didn't see anything obvious. Any help would be great [link] [comments] |

Will the Moto E4 still receive support a year from now? Posted: 03 May 2018 04:07 PM PDT Sorry if this is a bad question. I'm really uneducated in smartphones and operating systems, and don't know how to talk about them. I just know that my last budget purchase was a DROID Mini from Verizon, and it was basically obsolete by the time I purchased it (in terms of app and software updates). I need a budget smart phone. Moto E4/E4 Plus seems like a pretty good choice. Will it likely still be getting support (i.e. software updates) a year from now, or will it be obsolete? [link] [comments] |

Photos on Facebook app not openeing/enlarging once clicked. Posted: 03 May 2018 11:24 AM PDT Hello, just recently upgraded to the S9+ and just recently the Facebook app will not let me click on photos and enlarge or open them. It just freezes until I click the back button. I've tried clearing data and cache and uninstalling update and reinstalling it, but no success. Any tips or suggestions on how to get this fixed? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
[Help] How do I stop Pandora from quitting/closing after being paused for more than a minute? Posted: 03 May 2018 03:01 PM PDT I have an uprooted Note 8 on T-Mobile. I've tried adding Pandora to unmonitored apps in device maintenance, turned off from the "Inactive Apps" in the Developer Options. Cleared all data, uninstalled, deleted the folder from Android/data, then reinstalled. No matter what, if I pause the music for more than a minute, app just closes. How I do fix stuff? Audio Settings/Smart Connect suddenly popping up over and over Posted: 03 May 2018 03:00 PM PDT Just now (17:45 3 May) my phone started vibrating over and over. Smart Connect and Audio Settings kept popping up notifications over and over, that I have a new headset installed and asking me to optimize my headset settings. (Currently no headset is plugged in or connected via Bluetooth) I went into Apps and disabled Smart Connect so at least the vibrating has stopped. But the Audio Settings Automatic optimization thing appears over and over disappearing and reappearing. It's currently set to off. I have not installed any new apps since Saturday (Google Authenticator & DS Note) Prior to that it's been a few weeks since the last new app. Restarting to see if that fixes the issue. Has anyone heard of this kind of behavior? Xperia Z5 Compact Android 7.1.1 Smart Connect v. 5.7.31.935 [link] [comments] |
Deleted system files, can't boot anymore, any solution? Posted: 03 May 2018 02:01 AM PDT I found an old ZTE Mini, with Android 2.3 and a lot of bloatware. I guess it was bought from some net provider. On its own, it has only about 150mb of storage, so I decided to root it so I can get rid of some of the bloatware. I got a little bit cocky and it seems I deleted something fairly essential from the /system/app folder. It worked well until I went to a grocery store with it in the pocket, and when I got back the phone wouldn't re-connect to the wi-fi, so I decided to restart it to no avail.
