rquandt: I noticed that Google was heavily involved in making the "Imagine" (HTC U12+), as the 'account' at a certain major ARM chip supplier was for Google, not HTC! Maybe they had their newly acquired ex-HTC engineers build it - for HTC.

Xiaomi Mi 8 camera review: Challenging the best - DxOMark

    Posted: 31 May 2018 12:14 AM PDT

I'm an Apple user. I just bought a Xiaomi Redmi 5. I cannot believe how good android is right now!

    Posted: 30 May 2018 09:58 PM PDT

I just wanted a spare phone which ran android but I'm completely blown away by how good a budget android is right now.

Stable frame rate, no frame drops, fast, sleek UI, abundant privacy settings, great screen, fast fingerprint scanner, very few bugs, great battery life. All this for less than half the price of an iPhone 6 right now.

I'm genuinely shocked. I don't think there's much of a difference between iPhones and android devices now, other than camera quality (which high end android phones are good at). I'm so impressed.

(I can't migrate to android full time though. There are no great android tablets right now and the chromebook scene is a little confusing)

Could someone please ELI5 why carriers delay software updates?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:15 PM PDT

I've read a bit on this, and the best answer I can find is that "Android updates come from the carriers." Ok, but why? Aside from installing their own bloatware apps, what could a carrier possibly do for months on end to make the update process so slow? They don't write the software onto the device. They don't put any effort into maintaining the device itself. All they do is make people wait months behind of other people who paid for the same $800 phone.

This just came to mind as I was reading the other thread about Samsung updates. I am aware that Samsung's part in software updates is very different than AT&T's or Verizon's, but there were many people there talking about being on completely different Android versions depending on which carrier they had.

Google Pixel 2 on sale in Melbourne Australia

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:31 PM PDT

    Hey all,

For anyone in Melbourne Australia, the Pixel 2 XL 128GB is on sale at JB HiFi for 1100, a whopping $450 off. Not sure why, I'm thinking it's maybe because it's coming to the end of financial year or they're predicting a Pixel 3 announcement soon.

Either way, enjoy.... I can't wait to get mine tonight after work, so excited!!!

What phone that you wanted so bad but didn't managed to get one?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 04:19 AM PDT

Mine is the Moto X Style. Something about the design, that rubber back and metal sides, plus that front facing speaker made me fell in love with it. Due to limited availability i didn't managed to get one during it release, importing one isn't an option because of cost, so i decided to buy the second choice which isnthe OnePlus 2 which is available where i lived. What phone manages to escape from you?

First Android phone in a while

    Posted: 31 May 2018 07:31 AM PDT

So I've been exclusively using iPhones since iPhone 6S. Before that, I was a very big Android guy. I used to get every flagship phone and root everything and do it all. But then I got tired of it all and just got an iPhone. Well I'm finally coming back home today. My Galaxy S9 plus is being delivered today and I couldn't be more excited.

What I wanna ask y'all is what are some of the big changes in Android the past few years? My last Android was Galaxy S6 edge. So the past three years I have not kept up with Android at all. What are some things that you think set Android apart and that are better than iOS?
