    Incredible Xiaomi China Warranty service

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 07:44 AM PDT

Just wanted to share my experience getting my mi notebook 13 fixed in Guangzhou, China.

Bought it in December 2017 and last week most of the screen and its edges turned yellowish and wouldn't go away even after a clean reinstall. So most likely hardware problem. Luckily i was going to China for work anyways and since it only affected the screen color, I waited it out.

Was worried that the repair would take a while or i wouldn't get it back in time for a flight or for work.

Well i brought it to a xiaomi service center where they agreed to change out the screen and also got them to swap out the cooling fans as well since they were a bit noisy.

    Total repair time: 1 hour

Best warranty service I've ever experienced. Or maybe just super lucky. Cost me nothing and left very happy.

Should I sell my Mi 5c and get a Mi 5x instead?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 03:48 PM PDT

I bought a Mi 5c in December as an upgrade from my Redmi 4x. I was actually torn between the Mi 5c and the Mi 5x, but in the end I decided on the 5c. I really like its design and it runs quite well (especially compared to my old phone), but the camera performance and battery life are disappointing to say the least.

Right now the Mi 5x is a bit cheaper online than what I originally paid for my current phone, so I'm thinking of maybe selling this one and getting a 5x instead, but I'm wondering - is it really worth switching to, or should I just stick with the 5c for the time being and get a newer, better phone later down the road?

    Mi Notebook Pro pricing?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 07:48 PM PDT

Looking to purchase one of these laptops, but judging by the prices at gearbest, light in the box etc, prices have gone up like $200-300 USD since most people made initial reviews 4-5 months ago.

Am I seeing this right or are there better sites? Reviews on youtube had it pegged around $700-800 USD, but now it's $1000 and above for both i5 and i7 models. Are there secret coupon codes or what?

My 24 hours experience with Redmi Note 5 Pro (on Lineage 15.1)

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 03:40 AM PDT

I had ordered black Redmi Note 5 Pro (4 GB) from flipkart on 18th. I got it delivered yesterday. I hate MIUI, so I wanted to unlock bootloader asap. But, I had heard about bootloader unlock issues, and was really worried. As soon as I booted the device, I added mi account and synchronized it. Then I asked for permission to unlock at http://en.miui.com/unlock/. I received SMS within half an hour, stating that I had received permission to unlock it. I tried using Mi Unlock tool, but it failed. Then I updated MIUI to 9.2.7 , and retried unlocking. This time it worked!

So within 5 hours of delivery of the phone, I had unlocked bootloader. Then I flashed TWRP, and then Lineage OS 15.1 from XDA.

My review of Lineage OS (18 April build):

No major bugs in the ROM. Very stable, based on a day of usage. All the sensors, and other stuff works totally fine. Performance is smooth, and there are no Force Close issues. The only con is camera quality. Pictures in low light were very shaky However, after adding persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 to build.prop, and using Google camera with HDR+ (Arnova's v6), the performance has improved by quite a margin, and is now acceptable. It performs better than Mi A1 (stock camera oreo) in dim indoor lighting with google camera APK. Video is still shit (noise and focus issues), but I don't record anyway.

All in all, I am really happy by my purchase. Hope this helps someone who is on fence of buying Redmi Note 5 pro, and wants to flash custom ROM(s).

TLDR: Bootloader unlock within 5 hours of unboxing. Lineage 15.1 is stable, with substantially degraded camera. Fixed to an extent by google camera

    Small sized phone

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 01:23 PM PDT

Hello, need help with decision of what model to get.

My primary requirement is phone height being smaller than 145mm (smaller even better). I want it to fit in my pocket, so I dont need to carry in hand... Also, would like it to be atleats Android 6.0 and 3.5mm jack.

From my research possible models are: Redmi 4X, Redmi 5A. I know that 4X is better than 5A, should I go for it despite its base is Andorid 6.0?

    Note 5a Question about LTE

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 11:51 AM PDT

So I bought the Note 5A global about 2 months ago to use in Canada. The phone has worked fine. But I just came back from a road trip and noticed something. When locally it shows 4G in the corner and I'll get LTE speeds, but it always shows 4G. But on my trip is sudden't showed LTE, but with the same speeds.

So is there actually a difference between 4G and LTE?

ohh and I do get H+ when in a none LTE/4G area. because I know Canadian Carries use to lie about what 4G is.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Background autostart feature not working properly?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 02:34 PM PDT

Hi, I'm on MIUI 9.5.4.0 (NDFMIFA) and I've been trying to prevent apps from starting and running in the background. Unfortunately, none of the following had any effect:

    • disabling 'autostart' feature
    • disabling 'start in background'
    • enabling 'battery saver' option (that is supposed to monitor background processes and turn off sync)
    • setting 'Clear cache when device is locked' option to 1 minute (lowest possible)

I've tried every single one of those options separately as well as all combined and nothing seemed to make any difference. Apps like Messenger or Youtube keep starting in the background and displaying notifications.

Anyone else here having similar problem?

My brand new Xiaomi Mi A1 reboots during phone calls.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 08:04 AM PDT

as above it does this about 50% of calls, it reboots really quick but it is so annoying, does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong/ how to fix?

It's not so easy to send it back to the original seller as I bought it from someone who hadn't opened it.

One thing that I'm guessing could be the cause is I had to cut my Micro SIM into a Nano SIM myself so as it would fit, my phone company is sending a Nano SIM anyway during the week but I was too anxious to get started, could this be the cause??

    Control Spotify with google assistant?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 03:17 AM PDT

Have anyone been able to connect spotify account to google? When I go in Google Assistant to Settings > Phone > Music I don't see any providers besides Google Play Music. I have free account.

Edit: Figured out how to make searches. "X on Spotify" searches Spotify and opens artist or album. As long as there's no "Play" in query, it works. Better than nothing, I guess.

Mi Mix 2 trying to unlock via fingerprint in pocket

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 06:41 AM PDT

When my Mix 2 is in my jeans pocket, I occasionally feel it vibrate a little that you get when you fail fingerprint unlock. When I get my phone out to actually unlock it, it says theres been too many unsuccesful fingerprint attempts and to use my pin to continue. I'm assuming its thinking my pocket lining is a finger or something? Any ideas? Its annoying to only be able to fingerprint unlock when its on my desk/table.
