Is Google assistant ONLY triggered when you say the exact words "Ok, Google"?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 10:11 AM PDT

Was studying Spanish and said out loud "Pedro Gomez" and it triggered Google Assistant.

I tried it several more times and it kept working.

I figured that it might be tone based so I said some nonsensical words in the same tone as I would say "Ok, Google" or "Pedro Gomez". That didn't trigger it though.

If you can, give it a try.

    Front light flashing randomly?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 06:32 PM PDT

Maybe my FBI agent is just bored and fucking with me or maybe it's worse, but jokes aside I was replying to a snap and started typing when the front flash on my phone (Galaxy J5 2016) went off for a split second and blinded me for a bit.. any clue as to what this is? Is someone taking photos of my ugly ass or is it just a glitch on snapchat?

How can i disable multicast DNS (mDNS)?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 04:48 PM PDT

Seems like the mDNS protocol can be exploited by man in the middle attacks and is therefore insecure. How can i prevent my phone from broadcasting this type of traffic? I have no need to ever connect to smart devices so i don't want arbitrary smart devices on a public LAN to be receiving information from my phone. Ive tried some firewall apps but they were not successful.

Media player for tablet that does box art?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 08:34 PM PDT

Currently I have two young daughters who each have the Leap Pad Android tablet. I've ripped dvds from home and put them on these tablets for them to watch in long car rides. Currently I'm using Kodi but it's frustrating to use, buggy (touch input randomly stops working and the tablet has to be rebooted), and won't scrape box art on one tablet.

Is there another video player that's easy to use and displays box art? They don't know how to read so it has to have the art so they recognize the movie.

    Thanks for your time!

    Phantom Touches on Pixel

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 08:32 PM PDT

    Video links 1: https://imgur.com/a/FJdflwx 2: https://imgur.com/a/XTV17Jt

I've got a black 2016 Google Pixel 32gb on the latest Android 8.1 and firmware and security. Recently, I've been having strange issues with what I've been calling "phantom touches", where the phone just does things on its own. You can see in the video (sorry for the poor quality, all I had to record with was my webcam), the notification panel pulls itself down, the phone enters the app switcher and switches apps, scrolling is finicky, and it sometimes zoomed in when I scrolled. What's going on here? Hardware, software? I have no idea. I'm pretty tech savy, but I can't figure this one out. Please help!

Help! I've been trying to figure out a solution for 5 years!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 06:12 PM PDT

HELP! Need a solution to a very specific problem

I have a galaxy s8 plus, and am wondering if there are USB c external cell antennas that connect to the charging port. My googling has left me with no solution. I am often just a few km outside of tower range, with no power source other than my battery bank.

Ideally, a directional antenna that could the placed in a tree or on top of my tent, and would connect to my phone.

Does anybody know if such a thing exists, and why it seems there are so few external phone antennas compared to wifi antennas? Any help would be much appreciated!

    Storage Issues on Android 7

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 07:02 PM PDT

I could use some help, I have a CAT S31 with 7.1.2 and my internal storage is only 16 GB, and is almost full. I have 16 and 32 GB SD cards, but can't transfer my apps to either one to save device storage, which is frustrating because I honestly only need a gig or two extra at most.

I've backed up and removed files from the card, and formatted it as internal storage and rebooting the device, but when I attempt to "Migrate Data" it only moves ~230 MB...not sure what exactly it moves, but not enough to make a noticeable difference.

Is there something I maybe overlooked, or an app I can use, or a workaround using a PC?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

How do I stop my phone from making every sentence that starts with a number into a link to an address in maps?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 03:04 PM PDT

Just noticed this recently so I assume it's new but whenever a sentence starts with a number my phone has been interpreting it as an address and making it into a link for maps. How do I fix this?

Do I need to root a Verizon Samsung J7V to use 4GLTE on Cricket?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 04:23 PM PDT

I've read that Cricket is planning on switching to GSM towers though they currently run CDMA, those are they only towers around where I need to use my devices anyway.

I put a Cricket SIM card into my Verizon Samsung J7V and the calls and txt worked good but did not get anything 4G or 4GLTE (4G and 4G LTE worked on the device while I was with Verizon)

Can I get the 4G working with my old phone while I'm with Cricket? Seems like it should be working and it's still a good working smartphone but after Cricket changes their towers I might have to get a new phone anyway or sign up with Verizon again.

But in the meantime it would be great to use my Samsung J7V!

Does Anyone Know If Titanium Backup Works on the Android P DP1?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 06:35 PM PDT

I currently am running a custom ROM on my OG Pixel XL and have been interested in moving to the Android P DP1 for a while now, and was just wondering if anyone has tested Titanium Backup and knows if it is working 100% with the current Android P release so that I could migrate my app data to it.

Trying to become more tech savy, do I have a virus

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 04:16 PM PDT

Long story. Using Samsung galaxy S5, no sim Aug 2017 security patch. Was on Mac rumors forum browsing and got a redirect to a "Congratulations you won..." popular site. Cleared app cache uninstalled chrome, restarted phone. Reinstalled chrome. Seemed fine browsing android forum 10 min later while updating kapersky free virus scanner and chrome and get a notification for a file download. File called "Pug" just a blue and green download arrow icon when checking in download folder no further info in details about file type. Okay deleted from download folder. Searched "my files" still showing up in directory /storage/emulated/0/download. Never opened downloaded file. Still no clue what this is where came from (pretty sure I have install from unknown sources off as well.) Deleted that file, scan with malware bytes and avg, no issues. Still a bit worried 30 min later so take the drastic factory reset measure just in case.

For my knowlegde --What the heck was the file/ what happened?

For my piece of mind have I cleaned the phone throughly enough to remove it if it was a virus, this download file? Upon setup I had restore on from google but did not appear to have restored any picture, download files, etc only play store apps.

Any good phones around the $200ish price range that can last between 8-10 hours, has blutooth, and can support larger sd cards?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 06:04 PM PDT

I like to use my phone for a lot of basic stuff just mainly listening to music and playing a few games and using a few apps in the mean time. I don't really use my phone for everything, just as a small tablet to get me through my work shift mainly.

I'd prefer to have something around 10 hours, so I can still use the phone when traveling between work and home.

Idk what to call this error {touch screen help)

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 09:14 PM PDT

I bought the Xperia L1 from Target quite awhile ago (2 months) and mainly use it as a USB tether for my pc. I downloaded some fps games to see how they ran and I've noticed my screen is not as sensitive to touches as my other phone is. (slight aim movements), What I mean is if I slightly move my finger it will not pick up the movement, it skips a small bit, but at rapid swipes it's fine (Facebook, reddit, etc). Is there any fix for this, is my phone defective, or what shall I do? If it's not fixable it's fine like I said it's mainly my work phone and PC connector lol.

Xiaomi redmi note 4 wont turn on, maybe stuck in a bootloop?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 09:32 AM PDT

So the phone is just showing the Mi logo and the "powered by android" text comes after about 45 seconds. I tried the fast boot method and it first showed the fast boot logo but after that i was only showing the phone icon with a cable that isnt plugged into the phone, it will only plug it self (on the screen if i connect it to a pc). After a few tries of powering off and on, i tried again the fast boot. But instead of showing me the fast boot logo its just showing the phone and the unplugged cable. I was going to try this method: http://en.miui.com/thread-370620-1-1.html But i will wait here 1st. Thanks in advance!

Disable word learning WITHOUT disabling predictive text on Samsung Galaxy S7?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 11:38 AM PDT

My phone has predictive text, so for example if I typed the word "khinoceros" into a text field, above the keyboard there would be some suggestions and the obvious one would be "rhinoceros." Instead of having to delete the entire word and retype it I could tap the corrected version. Cool.

However, it has the unfortunate side-effect of remembering EVERY word I type on the keyboard. I'm searching for porn or shitposting on reddit? It remembers it -- and the words appear in the suggestions even for instance when my son is looking over my shoulder. Not okay.

However, if I disable the feature it seems ALL of the predictive text goes away which makes typing on my phone a huge hassle. Is there any way to disable the word remembering without disable predictive text entirely? Thank you.

Root Moto Z XT1650 with Chromebook?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 03:02 PM PDT

Been it it the routing scene for some time. Been trying to get root for my XT1650 but am having no luck finding a guide/video showing how to do it without a PC. I've seen people mentioning it it being done via app, but can't find the app. Since I've last used it, it seems XDA's site has become slightly harder to use on mobile, making finding this information harder to find. Vzw model, Android N. Build: NCLS26.118-23-1-1

    Thank you in advance

    Edit: archlinux method didn't work

Cry for help about cleaning up a new phone

    Posted: 21 Apr 2018 02:51 PM PDT

Title. I bought a new ConCorde Raptor Z30 with 5.1 android. managed to root it via KingRoot, and I want to remove the unnecessary apps.

goals: remove everything that is not necessary for the basic functions such as dialing and receiving calls, functional wifi and the potential to install stuff from .apk files.

when I attempted to remove the factory browser and the e-mail client, the rootkit warned me it WILL cause the system to crash which I do not want to verify via trying because I don't have a way to recover the original system.

so the question: which are the apps essential for the basic functions that cannot be removed without major functionality loss or risking of a brick?

EDIT: flaired for rooting question for I don't really know which category is the most fitting
