Does Global Version Redmi 5+ have any ROM related issues?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 04:48 PM PDT

I am waiting on mine to come and in the meantime I would like to familiarize myself with all potential issues I might have.

I bought the Global Version of Redmi 5+ from Gearbest from a reputable seller. Can a Global Version have a vendor ROM and get bricked after updating?

Upcoming Mi Gaming Laptop - Install English Windows?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 08:30 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I live in China and I'm going to be picking up the new Mi Gaming Laptop in a few weeks when it is released. I know that with the Notebook Pro and the Notebook Air people were able to successfully change the language of Windows from Chinese to English. Being unfamiliar with those laptops (I've got a macbook pro currently and run Windows on it via Parallels alongside Mac OSX) do people here think it should be a similar process for the new gaming laptop? As in, there should be no issues with changing the language from Chinese to English?

What concerns me is that I've read that some people lost functionality when changing from Chinese to English on the previous Xiaomi laptops, such as loss of Dolby audio etc.

Any insight would be fantastic, many thanks.

Redmi Note 5 front-facing camera question

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 06:26 PM PDT

Hey guys, so I've seen some stuff about how Huawei P20 Pro has default beauty mode which you can't turn off (even if you set the settings on the lowest the face-softening is still there).

So, does the Note 5 (China version) has this feature also? Selfies are kinda important to me.

Can someone with this phone give some experiences about ff camera?

    Xiaomi IP Camera Outdoors

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 05:20 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm looking at IP cameras and am hoping for some help. I'm searching for an outdoor camera which has a high IP rating and 240v or battery backed. Seemingly, the Xiofang, Aqara and Yi camera are all more indoor models. There is a Yi outdoor camera but not a lot of stores like gearbest sell it.

Has anyone used any of these models outdoors? I intend to install under a veranda so IP54 could be ok.

    Xiaomi.EU or China Dev for a 100% Google-less phone?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 09:35 AM PDT

    Hi,

I just got a Mi5 and as I'm dealing with all the bullshit of the 72 hours wait for the locked bootloader and all that, I'm considering options on what to install once this stupid wait is over.

My phone came with a clean install of MIUI 9 Global Stable. The thing is, I do not want any single Google service on my phone. I managed to remove all Google system apps with this tool via ADB, but the Play Store and the Google APIs are still there.

I also want root access, so that is why I've always used my Mi4 with a China Dev ROMs, partially de-bloated manually by myself. Now that I got a new phone, I'm considering making some changes. I think this leaves me with two options:

    • Xiaomi.EU roms look nice, but come with Google services pre-installed, with aparently no option to disable them. I would have root access with them, obviously, but how would I go about un-doing their work? I really like having a more EU-friendly ROM in my home language, but I'm willing to sacrifice all that just to get rid of Google services.

    • Again resorting to China Dev ROMs. This seems to be what people mostly go for. Thing is, I'm sick and tired of the Chinese crap that still remains, even after spending hours trying to remove it. I also need good GPS performance and I sure as hell do not want to use the built-in baidu location service. I could never get MicroG and UnifiedNlp to work on my Mi4, so this scares me.

What would you do? I just need a Xiaomi.EU rom, with all its tweaks, debloated and all, but Google-less. Does this exist? I am not an expert and I will never be able to debloat a China Dev ROM as good as the guys from Xiaomi.EU...

    Thanks,

    Cheers!

EDIT: I forgot to add that I very much prefer MIUI than AOSP. So I'm not planning on installing LineageOS or similar (even though that would solve some of my problems).

How do you install GCam on Redmi 5 Plus?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 11:37 AM PDT

I know you're supposed to unlock the bootloader. I've done that already.

But every single other "tutorial" I thought tends to assume that I have some sort of clue as to how this kind of thing works... And I don't. As such, I just couldn't understand what I'm supposed to do to enable the camera API to install GCam.

I'm running the latest Global Dev ROM for the 5 Plus (3/32) model.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 11:05 AM PDT

Hi guys, I had a problem with the back up of WhatsApp's images in Google Photos, this was solved with a factory reset (done from settings). Now I can't install the security patch of March (it appears the notification to install it), before doing the factory reset I had the rootless Gcam, what will I have to do? to keep the updates and the gcam, I don't want root my phone, only use the gcam with the program "Mi A1 Tools". Thanks for yours answers, and sorry for my bad English.

Xiaomi Dafang Camera not allowing me to see recorded videos from motion detected?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 10:31 AM PDT

I set up motion detection on my Dafang IP Camera and it used to send a notification when motion was detected and recorded a 13 second video which I could then download and view. Howver, once I updated to firmware version 5.5.1.243 it stopped allowing me to view the videos and just recently I'm not even getting notifcations when motion is detected. Is there anyway to solve this?

    Thanks

Are Redmi 5 Plus phones still getting bricked after installing OTA update?

    Mi Home Security question.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 01:28 AM PDT

    Hi Guys,

I happen to purchase the Mi home security system kit with an additional Winow/Door sensor.

I have created all the scenes as required. However, I am not able to get my head around a few things.

    1) I have created a widget on my iphone to Arm/Disarm my main contoller hub. However, when I disarmed the hub and opened the door the alarm went off ! If I understand correctly, Arming and Disarming of the Hub should affect all the devices that are connected to the hub? Is my understanding correct? If yes, why does this not work?

    2) Secondly, need to know if there is a way I can add a widget specifically for my Door/Window to Arm/Disarm it. Going into the app and doing the same is time consuming and I need something that I can do without unlocking my iphone.

    Thanks,

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 07:18 AM PDT

When traveling, id like to take as few cables as possible with me. My question is, i have this Aukey Multicharger https://img.fasttechcdn.com/514/5141700/5141700-3.jpg and the USB C slot on it is already used by my phone, will the Laptop get sufficient power through one of the USB A plugs to charge it or do i need to bring the Xiaomi Charger?
