    help me with this, please

help, i placed a password on my mi a1 and immediately forgot my password but that wasn't a problem because i had a fingerprint registered also BUT i did a system update and restarted my phone but now i cant turn it on because i need my password to activate android. i DONT want to do a system wipe and i have 6 more attempts before my phone gets wiped. i looked in the internet for quite a bit of time and couldn't find a good solution. i am thinking i should go to a phone lab/store and ask them to unlock it but i am not sure they can

RN5P--Could I buy now? (United States)

    Posted: 17 Apr 2018 03:26 PM PDT

I am looking to upgrade my phone. I am interested in this for the camera, as I'd like to take decent photos for things I sell.

    My question for everyone is:

-Does this currently work with any cell service providers in the States?

-If not, Could I purchase an available model now, use the camera and apps, then wait for an update to allow for use in the states? (If that is even how this works)

This would be my first international phone I've ever purchased and since this is fairly new I'm not sure if I should wait for a specific hardware or software release before I purchased this phone.

Regardless of whether I could make calls, I'm sure it is still worth the buy for the price just to use without.

Do you think Xiaomi phones are less reliable than others?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2018 05:17 PM PDT

I'm considering buying a Redmi 5 Plus or a Samsung J7 Prime. The Redmi 5 Plus is much better than the J7 Prime, but I feel like the J7 Prime is more reliable. I've seen people talk about Xiaomi phones randomly having major issues occur much more often than I've seen with other brands, like batteries starting to bulge from within or the phone being bricked from an OTA.

    What are your honest opinions?

Xiaomi ANC USB C earbuds not working in 2016+ MacBook Pro

    Posted: 17 Apr 2018 08:44 AM PDT

I plugged the earbuds into my mac and it didn't recognize them. In the input/output devices list in sound preferences I can only see the internal speakers.

I've also tried using two type c hubs: Aukey: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transfer-Multiport-Adapter-MacBook-Chromebook/dp/B071L6GTD2/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1523979722&sr=1-1&keywords=aukey+type+c+hub Ugreen: https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Multiport-Charging-Ethernet-Chromebook/dp/B076HN81GS/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1523979713&sr=1-1&keywords=ugreen+type+c+hub

    None worked.

I ran ioreg -bplugging the headphones and unplugging them without hubs and this is what I got:

For completion I saw this archived entry which basically covers the same problem https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/721leu/xiaomi_usb_c_anc_earbuds_on_macbook_pro/?st=jg3u1plh&sh=b0a7f688

I liked the earbuds and they work in my Mi 5 but I'm returning them tomorrow. Just leaving this to help someone in the future.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro Bottom Panel Question

    Posted: 17 Apr 2018 11:31 AM PDT

Hey guys, I received my Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro recently. I have a question about the bottom panel. Is it also kinda squeaky/creaky for you? It's very thin and when pressing on it it makes horrible creaking sounds (albeit its not that loud). Also when just simply picking it up I notice that. Is that normal?

Get the Redmi Note 5 (India) or keep trying for the Note 5 Pro?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2018 01:23 AM PDT

Looking to upgrade from my 3-year old Redmi Note 4G. Originally thought of going in for a smaller Redmi 4 or 5, but after trying out the Redmi Note 5/ 5 Pro at the Mi Home, have decided to try and get the 5 Pro. Sadly, in spite of trying to purchase the 5 Pro on flash sales on both flipkart/mi.com (the Black 4GB/64GB variant) for the past 3 weeks, I have not been able to do so. Even the Pre-Booking option did not work on mi.com when I tried.

Should I just go in for the Note 5 instead. I would like the better camera and faster processor, but I need to get the phone this month. The next pre-booking sale for the 5 Pro is on 27 April. As long as the Note 5's camera is decent, I don't mind going it for it.

MIUI on Redmi Note 3 Pro

    Posted: 17 Apr 2018 12:32 AM PDT

Hello, is there anyone using MIUI on the Redmi Note 3 Pro? Recently, I started feeling that most of the current custom ROMs for the RN3P aren't just that stable, and remembered the stock ROM. I remember MIUI being really slow, but it seems that it has been updated quite a lot nowdays, and was just wondering if the situation is any better and if it's worth switching back.

    Thanks.
