PC shut off mid-reformat. Can’t move forward.

    Posted: 19 Apr 2018 10:14 AM PDT

For various reasons, I decided it was time to reformat my laptop. I had everything going just fine until mid-installation, when I realized that my power cord must have been loose. That's what I get for asking my kid to plug it in and not checking. The PC was shut down and when I turned it back on, I get a Lenovo screen, followed by "Preparing..." and finally, the blue installation screen that shows 64%. The blue screen only stays for a split second and then the laptop restarts. That is the infinite restart loop from hell that I am in now.

    • I tried startup repair and nothing. • I tried changing the value of HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion to 3. • I tried using the command prompt, but it says there are no admin accounts on the PC and therefore I can not use that either. •I tried system restore, but there are obviously no restore points. • I tried to go back to a previous version. (You must see how this is turning into a downward spiral of stupidity at this point.) • I even tried to install again on a different partition. 😔 When I tried that, I got a message saying that installation failed because a required file (winload.efi) is missing, with an error code of 0xc000000e.

I really would appreciate any help anyone can give. I am out of luck and nearly out of time. I work from home and use this PC.. I really need it to work. I am just at a standstill and don't want to keep doing things that will potentially be irreversible. Please and thank you.

PC shuts down upon first boot then enters reboot loop on subsequent attempts to power on

    Posted: 19 Apr 2018 10:58 AM PDT

    • CPU: Intel i7 4790K @ 4.4GHz
    • GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970
    • RAM: 16GB HyperX Fury (2x8GB @ 1866MHz)
    • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK (rev 1.0)
    • SSD (Boot Drive): Crucial MX100 256GB
    • PSU: EVGA Supernova 750w 80+ Gold
    • Windows 10 Home N (Version: 1709 | OS Build: 16299.371)

This is an issue that first cropped up in December but I'm only now getting around to trying to resolve it due to laziness. I'm having some trouble narrowing down what the solution might be though, and was hoping somebody here might be able to shed some light on what options I can try.

The problem is that upon powering my PC on after it has been off for an extended period, it will typically pause at the Windows logo but without the loading circle appearing, before shutting down completely. When I attempt to turn it on again, the same thing happens except that instead of shutting down, the PC will endlessly reboot until eventually Windows begins its automatic repair procedure. After repairs are attempted and fail to find any issues, if I click the restart button that then appears, the PC has successfully booted up 100% of the time. What seems especially odd to me is that after a successful boot occurs, I can restart or turn off the PC and as long as the amount of time it's off isn't too long before switching it on again, I won't encounter the problem (so naturally, the problem typically rears its head on the first boot of the day as I'll have been sleeping all night).

Just for some additional information, the PC very, very rarely will successfully boot either on the initial powerup or during one of the restarts after it enters the reboot cycle. I also experience zero issues using the PC after it loads correctly, no BSOD, no sudden shut downs or restarts and I can run intensive programs or games without a hitch.

Here are some methods I've tried to find a solution with thus far:

Fresh reinstall of Windows. The computer played a cruel trick on me, working for the first boot afterwards but ultimately, this did not fix it. Ensure there are no loose cables, both interior and exterior. Ran software to test my RAM and SSD/HDD which as far as I can tell, detected no issues. Checked that temperatures haven't seen a significant increase in any area, which they haven't. My CPU ranges from 25-30°C at idle and and 60-65°C while gaming (or thereabouts, depending on the game, of course). Checked in the BIOS that voltages haven't changed for whatever reason, which I don't believe they have (there may be other things in the BIOS I've overlooked, if you think the cause may be something there though). The last thing I'm thinking could be the root but can't confirm right now as I don't have a second unit, is that the PSU is dying. However, the fact that I am able to use the PC after it's booted without issue, and that the problem hasn't become worse since it first started started around December, makes me skeptical.

I believe I've included all of the relevant information I can think of here, but please feel free to ask any questions if need be. This problem is becoming a source of great aggravation at this point and I would greatly appreciate any insight or potential solutions you might be able to offer.

Can I replace my laptop keyboard with one from a different region?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2018 04:10 AM PDT

So I have an older Lenovo G580, and I would like to continue using it, but unfortunately I have to replace it's keyboard. The thing is I'm from Hungary, and I bought this machine with a hungarian keyboard, but the new replacement keyboards are pretty expensive and the used are rare to find locally. I found much more cheap english keyboards from China on ebay, their structure and connection looks the same as mine, except the layout. I wouldn't mind the burning abscence of the "í" letter, but I'm just not sure if it will be compatible with my device. Do you have any similar experiences? Do theese keyboards with different language layouts usually compatible with a machine from a different region?

Need help with a cell phone backup

    Posted: 19 Apr 2018 12:31 AM PDT

HI all, So my Samsung S7 was starting to not function properly, super laggy, etc. Everything I read online said to just factory reset it - fair enough. I backed everything up, saved my pictures, and reset. My backup was done to google drive, and according to google's instructions, all I needed to do was sign back into my google account for it to restore everything. I did the reset, did the sign back in as google, aaaand nothing happened. The apps and settings not being how I want them is just a pain, but I really need the 8 or 9 hundred phone numbers that were in my contacts.

The real kicker is, I can log into my google drive, and go to backups. There it is! My phone backup. Last backed up April 19 2018. The only option I have if I tap on it is "delete this backup." I'm not able to restore the backup to my phone, despite it being on my phone.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

BSOD From DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when web browsing

    Posted: 18 Apr 2018 04:21 PM PDT

Need some help with BSOD problems. the links to minidumps are at the first comment. OS: Windows 10 pro Specs Ryzen 2400g asrock ab350 itx motherboard ram 2x8 gb g.skill ram 1 tb mydigitalssd nvme drive gtx 1050ti

Problem: I recently gotten this computer and had multiple crashes. However BSOD only seems to occur when I actually use the computer. During standby it is completely fine. I have updated the drivers for the graphics card and used Intel Driver and support software to install the wireless wifi driver. I have also check the ram and disk with the built in Windows tools and didn't find any problems.
