    • Total budget and country of purchase: $3000 max, but I would be more comfortable around 2000 (Canadian)

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Don't like the 2 in 1, need good battery life (8h+)

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? I will be carrying around all day and would like to be thin but performance is more important.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, I'm still angry and more than a tad bitter at Mac.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No gaming, movies ( lots), web surfing, basic use.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Needs to be great at typing, I write a lot. I really loved the Mac's touchpad, was so responsive! Never had a touch screen, but I am open to it.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am a bit rough, so it needs to have a great build ( I will drop the computer, despite my best efforts), I would also like this computer to last for awhile. It would be a bonus if it was pretty looking. Thanks for any advice!

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. windows

Looking to buy a laptop for university that can game but doesn't scream "gamer!"

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 04:28 PM PDT

Total budget and country of purchase: Budget is around $1100, but the less spent, the better (Canada)

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for the money would be best

How important is weight and thinness to you? I would definitely favour a laptop that is lighter/thinner

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows is fine for me

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. If possible, 13", otherwise not a dealbreaker

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run Just a bit of gaming

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Medium to high settings. Mainly for League or Rainbow six siege

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No specific preferences

All in all, I'm looking for a laptop that looks professional enough, but can still game decently. I would have a larger preference to the weight/thinness of the laptop than to the quality at which i can game, as there's more leeway when adjusting the settings

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:18 AM PDT

So there has always been a public laptop which everyone wants because they want a windows laptop and that too being as well built and premium as Mac. Many competed in this sweet spot. I thought dell XPS , Lenovo ThinkPad X1, hp spectre were the main competitors.

Then came matebook x pro and steals the show.

What is your opinion in this???

[US] Your time is appreciated. Laptop Under 2500$

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 07:54 PM PDT

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting in Reddit. I'm willing to buy a laptop under 2500$. I did a bit of research, and I'm open for suggestions, links, articles etc... that ease the process for buying one. I became aware a lot of Reddit users are knowledgeable about this subject, and that's why I'm here. Anyways, I'm an architect student and I use plenty of programs (Auto cad, Rhino, 3DS max, zbrush, Photoshop, Illustrator, you get the point), and most of the time I'm multitasking. I need something powerful that could run smoothly while running these programs if possible with this price. I'm willing to pay extra if it's worth the money.

    Does size matter? No.

Does it have to be pretty? No.

Do I care if it has nice features and crazy led lights? No.

Is it battery life an issue? Not that much.

Thank you in advance and I appreciate the help.

Shit I forgot the form, but here it is.

    • Total budget and country of purchase: under 2500$
    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Doesn't matter.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Doesn't matter.
    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. As long as its Windows
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Doesn't matter.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
    • gaming is a plus
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I care about the personality more than the looks.

Id like to run newer games, again at maybe not max, but at least to run them with them looking good, maybe not the best, but at least visually appealing.

basically, im looking to run wow high, with other things high as well? this may be impossible. im not sure. help

Gaming laptop that flys under the radar as a business laptop

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 12:33 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $1000-1300 (can go to $1500-1700 for a perfect match) [US]

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Doesn't matter. Battery life should be at least 3-4 hours of not-gaming.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Medium-High. I have a desktop, the laptop is for on the go. It's not a desktop replacement.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10, dual booting Linux (Mint) would be a nice bonus but not required

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15-17. A 15" is most preferred but 17" is acceptable if it gets me a feature that I need/want that is not available on a 15" model.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming + web development and programming.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? The games I play are rarely used in benchmarks, so let's say Anno 2205 and Eve Online levels.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Having a good keyboard is probably the most important aspect. Build quality is also important. I'm not necessarily talking being able to be dropped, but I don't want plastic hinges and/or screws. I remember I had a $2400 Alienware (Dell) back in like 2008 that the hinge broke on after just over a year. The hinge was metal but it connected to plastic using plastic rivets/screws. I ended up finding out that was an extremely common problem with them at that time.

A finger-print reader would be nice but it's not required. I'd want one that is standlone if possible (not part of the trackpad), and the type like on most phones (i.e. Google Pixel) not the kind you swipe your finger across. Again, it's not important, but that's what I'd prefer if it were to have one.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I posted here a while back but I ended up holding off until I could spend more. I'm looking again now since I can spend a bit more and am not sure what to get. I need a gaming laptop that can fly under the radar as a business laptop, that is the most important aspect. A backlit keyboard is the only "gaming" design aspect I can accept, that means no heavy red accents (some inside the lid is ok), no giant gaming logos, and a clean looking design (shouldn't look like a jet). After that, the most important aspects, in order of importance, are durability, keyboard quality, and performance. I'd like 4K but 1080p is acceptable, it's one of those I'd pay a little more for it but I don't need it things.

GPU wise, I was thinking at least a 1050Ti, a Max-Q model is acceptable. I do web and video game development. I do a lot of typing and do not want to have to carry a keyboard. I usually carry a mouse but I still want a half decent trackpad, it doesn't have to be perfect though, just using a mouse on a plane is annoying so it'd only be used for that. The keyboard is far more important, I'd take a crappy trackpad and excellent keyboard over a mediocre keyboard and trackpad.

I was looking at the Lenovo 720S 15" since it's on sale for $1500 but it's out of stock. I was also considering Dell's XPS 15 line but I haven't had good experiences with Dells (broken hinges, failing keyboards, etc) so I'm a bit cautious. But those are good examples of what I'm after.

Lenovo ThinkPad for $290? Does that price make sense?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 01:41 PM PDT

Looking for general purpose/light gaming laptop. $650 soft cap. 2 display outputs very desired.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 08:44 PM PDT

Hi, I am looking for a laptop to connect a couple of monitors to, so it's pretty important for me to have 2 display outputs.

I am mostly using for general purposes, but I will be engaging in very light gaming (nothing that I will need more than a 1050/1050ti for).

Ideally I would want to spend $650 but I'm willing to go to $850 if needed.

Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to help a stranger! :)

Budget $800, CA, USA. $599 Surface Laptop m3 or base $749 Macbook air??

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 08:41 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $800 USA

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Would lean more towards regular laptop, have a surface 3 I'm upgrading from and not looking for a detachable. Battery then performance for basic college work.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Don't want a brick but something that can be carried in backpack around campus without being tiring or bothersome.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Mac or windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 12-14 inches

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Word, Excel, Power Point, chrome and video playback ( netflix youtube)

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Backlit keyboard, ssd ( 128gb is good enough) reliable

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. No detachable 2-1's. Looking into the surface laptop as it is $599 at best buy with m3 processor and looks and feels nice. The macbook air is on sale at 750 for the i5 8gb ram and I feel like its the safest choice to get but wanted some input on what would be better for the price/value each laptop offers. Going to college but my course work is mostly research, writing papers and making presentations.

[US] Looking for a basic Windows machine for $500 or less

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 07:22 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: I'm in the US and would like to stay below $500, but could be open to slightly more depending on options.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I don't need a 2 in 1 and battery life wouldn't really be a concern since I wouldn't be travelling with it, but I'd like the best specifications for the money, given my budget.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Neither is very important to me.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. It isn't likely that I would be doing anything CAD/video/photo related or any significant gaming. The computer will be used for the Office suite of software, basic webcam and video communication, and possibly music tabbing software such as Guitar Pro.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? It's unlikely that I'll game with this computer.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? The most important thing is a decent built-in camera. An optical drive would be nice, but isn't really critical.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I primarily use Linux and have been dual booting Linux and Windows, but the OS's don't seem to want to play well with one another and I've just lost the patience to troubleshoot the issue. I really just need Windows for the Office suite and a few other pieces of software. Outside of that concern, I just want something reasonably long lasting and dependable with respect to my budget.

    Laptop purchasing guidance, please.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 08:34 AM PDT

    Hello All,

I have been pulling my hair out spending hours running through the internet trying to find a solution that works for me. I stumbled across this subreddit and humbly ask for insight that helps point me in the right direction.

I am looking to replace a desktop with a laptop while trying to future proof for a little bit. Have looked at Macbook Pro, HP Spectre 360, Surfacebook 2, RazerBlade, etc. I do a lot of general office paperwork (MS office suite), Quickbooks, estimating, blueprint reading/mark-up/take-off, CAD and modeling with rendering, Photoshop editing, and some gaming on the side.

I have filled out the form below, but if there is more information you need to narrow down some suggestions, please ask.

Thank you very much in advance.

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Would like to keep it at $3,500 and under but willing to go up to $4,500 if it is truly worth it. I am in the U.S.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2 in 1 would be nice but due to work the keyboard would need to be removed or protected (meaning keyboard not facing down to get scratched is set on an exposed nail/screw). Need the battery to last 8 hours minimum. Would like touchscreen with pen input for on-site note taking and blueprint mark-up.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Would like a good form factor but moderate weight, nor thinness is not a problem.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Some of the software I use is Windows only but I was leaning towards a Macbook Pro (running Parallels or Basecamp) as I have several apple devices and thinking of the continuity of the ecosystem. Ultimately because of some of my requirements/wishes, it is leaning towards the Windows side.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" and up.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Work: Sketchup, Chief Architect, AutoCad, V-Ray, Blender, Kerkythea, Photoshop.

Play: CSS, CS:GO, Rocket League, Metro:Last Night, Skyrim, Bioshock.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I would like to play at high settings for the one's listed above. For CSS and CS:GO, I am getting between 200-300 FPS on my desktop at my office.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Prefer metal chassis but definitely something durable for office and job-site use. Touch screen with pen input (similar to the apple pen), SSD 500GB-1TB, Lots of Ram, high resolution display.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I use software that is licensed to a single computer and it is not always feasible to remote in to my office. Being able to dock and using three external monitors (24"-32") is preferred. That way I can move to relying on the laptop for everything and just dock it at my office when I am there.

Buying a light and portable work laptop (~1000eur)

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 08:13 AM PDT

I'm looking to upgrade to a lighter and more powerful work laptop. I'm currently on the Lenovo IdeaPad Y570.

I will be using my new laptop mostly for project management (spreadsheets, lots of tabs open at the same time, as well as some desktop apps (Hive PM, FrontApp, etc.) running non-stop), but I will also do some photo and video editing for my personal blog.

Does the 14 inch Lenovo IdeaPad 720s seem like a good choice? Here's the exact one I'm looking at: https://ipon.hu/shop/termek/lenovo-720s-14-80xc002qhv-ezust/1578912

Worth paying an extra £100 for +4GB RAM?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 10:53 AM PDT

I'm looking to get a laptop that I'm going to primarily use for my art business so it'll need to be able to use photoshop, stream, browse etc. Doesn't need to run games as my other half has a gaming PC so if I wanna play games I can use that, just needs to do the basics.

I like the look of the HP Pavillion as I really want a 2-in-1 style laptop, and it seems to be the best one in my price range. There are 2 online, both with 128GB of storage, but one has 4GB RAM and one has 8GB of RAM. I'm not sure if its worth me paying the extra for the RAM if its just for Photoshop, youtube, netflix etc?

The two laptops are linked below:

    4GB of RAM, £399 https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-x360-14-ba094sa-14-2-in-1-silk-gold-10164670-pdt.html

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Around $1,500 American, could do more, around $1,800, but I would really want to be sure it would last a while. I'm replacing my 8 year old laptop that still works, I did some upgrades on my own, but the battery is toast and it's really heavy, I want this new computer to last 5+ years.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I'm a grad student so a battery that lasts long enough for a day of class and then some would be great. 2 in 1 would be cool I guess but I would take a more powerful/better battery over it.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important, want it slim enough to carry around all day without it being "a thing" in terms of space in my bag, taking it in and out...if that makes sense.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Don't really care, more concerned with reliability in terms of getting it serviced if there is an issue I can't fix on my own, software I use goes both ways.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13.3" would be ideal i think, 14" probably works too.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mostly light video editing (some 4k) and photoshop, some sql and vba but 80% will be writing and reading off if it, so keyboard and screen quality is important.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard, battery, and build quality (so I don't have to worry about it in my bag kind of thing).

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I've looked at the Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th gen, the Dell XPS 13 with and without touch-screen/2 in 1, and the 13" MacBook Pro without touchbar. They're all slim, well built machines with good battery life. I hear the xps has the worst keyboard, but probably gives the most bang for the buck outside of that, plus the smallest footprint. I like the reliability/lack of issues/"simplicity" of the macbook, but I guess there is a new one coming out this year so I should probably wait for the price drop. From what i've heard lenovo and dell both have deplorable servicing records, so the peace of mind that comes with a macbook helps justify the price. I really like the look of the x1c6, it has a great keyboard, probably the best screen if i go for the fancy display, but again, from what i've read, if something goes wrong with a lenovo youre on your own. Some help configuring the units (diminishing returns in terms of upgrading processor, something like that) would be appreciated. I probably don't need something as powerful as these units, but I plan on using them for 5+ years and appreciate the ability to have 10 chrome tabs, a music player, a fairly large excel sheet, and whatever I'm working on, with 2 monitors, without much fuss. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm open to hearing them, thank you.

Laptop for College and Gaming |15.6" ~2k budget

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 04:37 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Around 2000 dollars, could push it up a bit if it's worth it

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Don't care for 2 in 1. Battery Life should be good but not the best. Best specifications if possible.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Kinda a lot, would like it if doesn't look like a spacheship with red lines and heavy. I dont mind a bit heavy or a bit thick, but would appreciate if i could put it in my backpack and it doesn't kill my back.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6 inches

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes, CAD and would like high setting on games and that it lasts a few years.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? XCOM 2, GTA V ,Rainbow Six, Guild Wars 2, PUBG, Fortnite.. All on more or equal to 60 fps

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good build quality, going to have it on my backpack, and good keyboard as it will be the main keyboard that i use.

Laptop Buying Guide (XPS vs Thinkpad; or Suggest) from /r/computers

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 10:31 AM PDT

Hello guys, I would like to ask for help on choosing a Laptop for me. I have originally posted this from /r/computers as I have no idea that this thread exists. Disclaimer: some people criticize that I can code but not know how to choose a laptop. For the record I do know what kind of laptop I want. What i dont know is whether this new laptop has been reliable to others or not. Well big thanks.

    Background

I am a game engineer (a fancy title for software engineering in games) and my livelihood consists of me coding in Unity (game engine). I love playing games at my spare time. There are times that I work freelance so I need to meet clients in person and present them my work from time to time. I have always wanted to go to hackathons and game jams so I would like a portable computer at my disposal at all times.

    Work

I would say that my work isn't that much resource intensive, but also isn't light. It involves primarily of coding about 2/3 of the time. It also requires me to work with 3D game environments such as placement of assets and playtesting the game. I perform minor work with 3D modeling.

    Hobbies

I love consuming multimedia: forum lurking, youtube watching, anime, and a little bit of music with my headphone on. I sometimes create and edit photos and videos. I do a little bit of studying on my spare time which involves reading and watching tutorials about programming and game development.

Gaming I am just a chill gamer now, not as hardcore as I used to before I started working. I game for 1-6 hours (but usually only about an hour). I have very specific games that will run on my future Laptop as I know other games that I am eager to play can be played on my desktop in a future build (which I may ask for reference). Here they are:

    1. The Witcher 3
    2. Counter-strike : Global Offensive
    3. The Sims 4
    4. Tekken 7
    5. Grand Theft Auto V
    6. Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain

I can appreciate games on very low settings (as a teen growing out of junk gaming pc) but now I would like to UP it and play on a mix of medium to high settings.

    Daily Activities

I work away from home from monday to friday and live on an apartment for weekdays. By friday I commute back home for 2 to 3 hours riding 2 buses and a short distance walk. By monday I will head straight to office then afterwards will head to my apartment. I want a laptop that can handle my weekly commute.

Now that you have an idea about my persona, this can help explain why I would want the following specs.

    Preferred Specs

    1. Atleast a core i7 or xeon processor
    2. GPU with atleast 4GB of VRAM and can game
    3. A screen with 2560x1440/1920x1080
    4. 16GB of RAM or more
    5. A battery that can last me a full day for work and an hour or more for one gaming session
    6. Atleast 1TB of storage and expansion is a plus
    7. Durable and can withstand my commute
    8. Serviceable but it doesn't have to be with a tech support backing. I can fix computers myself so I want something that can easily be tinkered.
    9. It can be expensive as long as it is reasonable and can be shipped to Philippines (I will find ways to obtain it)
    10. Must be atleast 15" but can be 17" if specs are justified
    11. Should be around 3Kg or less

Now for the really important part, I have two candidates already. But if there may be other laptops that you can suggest that will really suit me I would appreciate your suggestion.

    1. Dell XPS 15 (9560/9570) - this was the first choice because of its beautiful slim design and simplicity. Nice screen and all. But the reason that I have considered looking onto another laptop is because of the things I have heard about it being bad after a while. Believe me it already ticks all the boxes for me but if i am going to pay for something that may fail in like a year or.two then it will be a waste. For XPS 15 users I would like confirmations on whether I should buy this or not.

    2. ThinkPad P51/P52 - it was only recently that I have learned about this and might want to order this right away. But it scares me that I have not read much of horrifying stories about it. I believe that may be good or maybe not. I would also want to know from thinkpad users whether it is worth my investment.

I am truly torn by my choices, and tilting towards the thinkpad. So which should it be for me, the XPS or ThinkPad? (also suggest one if you have better options)

P.S: please dont suggest me a gaming laptop or a macbook for the love of God. I am very sure I dont want them. Gaming isnr my #1 priority, work is. Thanks!

Laptop for Work and University | $2400 CAD Budget

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 12:34 PM PDT

    • $2000-2400 CAD Canada

    • Looking for the best specs for the money, but nervous about leaving the Mac environment. Had issues with limited storage on my current MacBook Air (128GB, what could they have been thinking?). I'm definitely looking for something closer to 512 GB storage space.

    • Preferably no more than 4lbs, and thin, would find around a MacBook Pro thickness acceptable

    • I'm currently on Mac and prefer the operating system considerably. Unfortunately it seems you have to spend a great deal to have more storage space.

    • My preferred screen size is 15 inches.

    • I will be doing CAD, GIS, Photo Editing (Like Photoshop), and maybe some light gaming (Civ 6, Crusader Kings 2)

    • I'd like for Civ 6 to run comfortably, but if it dramatically increases cost then I'd settle for no gaming functionality.

    • Very interested in good build quality, and a good keyboard since I send a ridiculous number of emails every day.

    • The compatibility between my iPhone and my laptop is really important to me. Being able to text myself information/photos/links quickly is vital for my business, and so far my Mac has really done its job, which is why I'm so nervous about leaving the platform. Will everything be transferred over smoothly to windows from my current MacBook Air?

    • I often suffer from light sensitivity and will need to be able to adjust brightness down considerably when this is the case. So any issues with adjusting overly bright screens can prove problematic for me.

Xiaomi Notebook Pro vs Lenovo Yoga 720

    Posted: 28 Apr 2018 10:14 AM PDT

Hi! I'm torn between these two laptops. I'm from EU.

    Xiaomi Notebook Pro (975€) i5 8250u 8GB RAM 256 SSD 150MX + Better design, looks premium + About 200€ cheaper + USB C charging

    Lenovo Yoga 720 (1150€-1250€) i5 7300HQ 8GB RAM 256 SSD Nvidia 1050 + Convertible + Touchscreen

So, the obvious differences are, that the Xiaomi is better looking and cheaper, while Lenovo has a better GPU and is a 2 in 1 convertible.

I'm buying from shops in my country or EU, so both laptops get 2-year warranty, the Xiaomi also has the keyboard in my language. I'm a casual gamer, don't play AAA titles, maybe some Skyrim, GTA V from time to time, but in total just a few hours per week. I'm just not really sure how useful would a touchscreen and 2 in 1 flexibility be. I don't use my laptop in bed, only on the table and the couch.

    Thank you in advance!
