Just did a fresh install of Windows 7, and there are so many updates... Posted: 01 Apr 2018 01:47 PM PDT Ok, so I made a bootable USB with WIN 7 on it and decided to downgrade my WIN 10. My PC isn't that strong, and I feel that upgrading WIN 10 might have been a mistake. Everything went smoothly....until I saw the updates. I mean, I am not shocked, considering my updates have to catch up all the way from 2009. Since my internet is kinda shit, is there any way to download something to install updates that way? Sometimes updates get stuck at 0%, sometimes it says "no more updates to install", only to give me 50 more updates to install 10 minutes later. I am literally updating my PC for 12 straight hours now and I can't take it anymore. And the worst thing is, even when updates were installing, and even tho the green bar was slowly filling, in the end it says that out of 100 updates, 50 of them succeeded, and other 50 failed, and it's like that all day. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks. EDIT: My specs are: RAM: 3 GB Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz 64bit [link] [comments]
[win10] I'm on a limited internet connection, how do I pause updates? Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:16 PM PDT I connect to the internet on my desktop by usb tethering my phone. My plan allows up to 2gb usage per day so I'd paused updates because they were eating through my daily data. Today, windows started to download an update to win10 and the pause button is greyed out and have a message underneath it "Updates have been resumed so we are checking for updates to keep your machine current with the latest security and quality updates before you can pause again." I'm aware of the security issues when lagging behind latest updates but I can't afford an unlimited data plan at the moment. I read an article which said gpedit had some options to pause updates but it wasnt in the select menu in the place it was supposed to be. Anyone know a way to force disable downloading updates? TIA [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Freezes after 10 minutes Posted: 01 Apr 2018 01:37 PM PDT So I had this same issues a while ago, but I gave up on it and ended up reinstalling 8.1 instead. After a clean reinstall of Windows 10, it freezes after exactly 10 minutes... Every time, no matter if I'm on the internet, or just the desktop. I can still move the mouse but the windows freeze and I can't click anything, and then about 30 seconds later my mouse freezes. I've tried booting into safe mode but the problem exists as well. I should note I don't have any issues with 8.1, it's only 10. I've also made sure my GPU drivers are up to date via GeForce Experience. My PC i5-3570k GTX 780ti 8gm G.Skill Ripjaws The only thing I have installed right now is Chrome and GeForce Experience. I've tried reinstalling Windows 10 multiple times and this issue happens each time. [link] [comments]
Putting Windows 10 Media centre on a USB Posted: 01 Apr 2018 11:26 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm trying to put windows 10 media centre on a usb and I keep getting the error: error code 0x80042405 - 0xA001a. I've tried putting the .exe on the USB and starting from there but doesn't work. Everytime I get this error it always asks me to reformat the USB. Am I doing something wrong? [link] [comments]

Win10 File Explorer always jumps back to top Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:26 PM PDT Can anyone tell me why this happens? I'll scroll to the bottom to access a file, and once I click on it, or if I let it sit idle... it refreshes, and annoyingly jumps back to the top of the folder. This is highly annoying behavior. Installing windows 10 FROM a usb stick Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:15 PM PDT So my OS corrupted today, atleast a single "crucial driver/file" in the SYS32 folder so now I have to reinstall, I was just wondering if all I have to do is download an ISO, move it onto my USB stick and boot my pc from that stick, or is there more to it than that? Turned off while updating. Boot-up screen flickers. Posted: 01 Apr 2018 09:19 AM PDT So my laptop suddenly ran out of battery while updating, before I even got the chance to get my charger. I charged my laptop and turned it on again. When I turned it on, I was expecting something like "restoring windows to a previous version", but all I get after the "ASUS" boot-up is a flickering boot-up screen. I suppose my laptop is TRYING to restore it to previous version, but somehow can't get the job done. I've tried the shift+f8 solution and nothing appeared. Help me please. I'm using Windows 10. Win10 Runs on my 32 gig Notebook, Finally Posted: 01 Apr 2018 07:14 PM PDT Turned of hibernation from the command prompt and have absolutely nothing on C:\ except for the OS. I'm using portable versions of LibreOffice and Firefox on a 32 Gig SD card and they work great. There's over 9 gigs left on C:\ for updates, which actually install now. Using SD card for everything. restoring a previous windows 7 installation after installing 10 Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:23 PM PDT currentely running 7, i want to to upgrade to 10, but not completely removing 7. I want to be able to restore 7 if i want without too much hassle, with windows.old or something like that. In the free windows 10 upgrade days, you had 30 days to restore if you wanted, does this also apply if you upgrade today from an iso ? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:36 AM PDT So, I just installed windows, and I keep trying to list my directory. It simply won't do anything. How do I run ls? I can't seem to find it in /bin either, because it doesn't exist. [link] [comments]
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 won't boot Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:38 PM PDT I just moved and went to turn on my computer and Windows Ultimate x64 won't boot. The computer can see the hard drive in BIOS, but it won't boot from it. The computer can boot to Linux Mint just fine, so all of the hardware works. My issue is that I use Linux for all of my other computers, so I haven't found a download tool that I can use on a Linux system. My computer doesn't have a CD drive, so I can't use my old Windows CDs either (I'm honestly not even sure where they are, or if they made the move to Japan with me in the first place. My copy of Windows has been working since Windows 7 was new). How do I boot, or, in worst case scenario, overwrite and reinstall Windows 7 onto the hard drive from a Linux system. [link] [comments] |
